More fixing, cleaning, listing.

My new (to me) garage PC also arrived. I grabbed a 256gb SSD I had laying around and installed it. I loaded Linux on it and got it all set up the way I want it. So glad to be back in business! Man, it sucked not having a PC out in the shop for a week.

Meet 'Rats Rule's' twin brother 'Rat Bike'. Can't have enough Rat Awards I guess. Made Rat Bike yesterday and finished assembling today. Same basic construction as Rats Rule.

Rumor has it there may be a Rat triplet running about, but that may just be hyperbole.. Oh well its back to the work bench to see what else I can come up with for the Car Show. 1724558326598.jpeg
Ok, well let's add another trophy to the mix. This one is called the 'Heritage Award' and will be awarded in the 'Pre-WWII Vehicle' class.

The gas pump and eagle I copped off another trophy I had on the shelf. I stained the bottom wood base with the Black Stain and clear coated it in Polyurethane. Next I cut some thick board stock to length, trimmed the corners to 45o to match the base board corners and routed the top edges on the portable Craftsman table ( this took a few tries to get right ) and lastly I applied the Howard's Feed-N-Wax.

Then it was just a matter of lining eveything up, drilling and countersinking a few holes, a touch of glue and finally stick and trim the black felt to the bottom.1725577920104.jpeg

Got the right cab piece off. Whoever mounted it only used half the mounting holes in the main brackets.. & ran a wire through one of the unused holes for the running lights... but no connector so had to cut the damn wire. FFS. I'll put that back with bullet connectors.

Just about all self-tappers everywhere. Will be using M6 & M8 bolts & Nylocs when it goes back together. There will also be some tidying up of the wiring.

Hull sanded to 220
Half of the deck sanded to 220

I'm hand sanding with 60 and 80 grit. Then using the RO and a soft pad with 120. Final sanding is by hand with a soft pad and 220.

The epoxy is sanded pretty thin in a few spots, but you can't see the glass if you wet the boat with alcohol.

My son wanted to help. He came out while I was still sanding with 80 grit. I gave him some 80 grit on a soft pad and showed him what to do. He sanded one side while I sanded the other. He finished way before me. Then I touched up a bit on his side before moving on to the next grit.

Still need to sand the coaming lip and the inside of the boat.

Also need to sand and spray my test board to make sure my clear is going to work.

Broke out the gasoline powered welding table. Welded the arbor press pinion shaft. Cut off the extra bit. Turned the added bit and welds on the lathe. Assembled the arbor press. Put the GPWT away.

Signed a donation letter. Fended off questions.

Took down some slatwall. Cut a hole in drywall. Cried. Sighed. Dragged tools outside.

"My garage" has become 4 different places (home shop, farm shelter, best bud's shop and place some of my big tools are working). Going back 2 days I replaced starter switch in Gallion crane so I could weigh new milling machine but this morning visited a potential client's shop that I will probably start doing some work from (every conceivable tool on planet!!!!) then visited my big tool shop to bring some material home to make wrench drawer organizer then started organizing home shop to get ready to move old mill to outer shop and new mill into permanent home.

Sorry if this is 20-20 hindsight, but while I think you did a beautiful job, I'd have extended and made a "cover door" over the safe, and added a storage drawer for the crank wheel so it didn't stick out.
That's a good idea. I actually have the safe pulled forward a bit. I'll see if I have room to do something like that

Pit user tips always appreciated.
Two biggest things to be aware of are gasoline fumes that will settle to the bottom of the pit and concentrate enough to make it hard to breathe and likely to ignite. The other surprising thing is just the ease with which people can fall into them! Watch every step and cover them when not in use. Good ventilation is a plus, most folks won't spend the money on an explosion proof rated fan.

Cut some 2x4s to make braces for the shower mixer valve and shower head flange at the new place.

In the house, got the shower stall installation finished. Plumbing is done and the cold works so far. I just have to finish the water heater install in the basement and the hot side should be usable. Beats heating up water on a hot plate and using a battery-powered pump camp shower, lol, which is what we've been doing when we need a shower over there.

Back out in the garage, I tied an old wrench to some poly rope and tossed it down my well to see how deep the well is, and how much water is in there. It's been dry as hell here, and I was pleasantly surprised that there's still a decent amount of water in there (for a region that has a notoriously crappy water table).

We (I) would love to know more details of the pit. Lots of hate on pits so hopefully not steering you into a land mine.
Will do a quick thread when its done (y) , Ive some plans for a high lift jack that should make it more user friendly.
Basic details are:-
Length 6m / width 1.1m / depth 1.73m
Recessed lighting.
Sump pump and chamber, 10" of gravel for drainage (due to water table)
Angle top for grates and beam jack.
Re the hate, well, lets just say its not my first rodeo on that front so fun will be had :bounce:

Yep, falling in it and petrol related fires top my list of concerns, that said Ive enough experience with 2/4 post lifts to know nothing is without risk. The pit has a 4" vent pipe set low in the wall but honestly, I see the main role for that in making it a more pleasant place to be, well ventilated, well lit, spacious and dry is the aim.

4x4x1/4in angle steel lip (45deg cut & welded at all 4 corners) & use 4x8's or 4x10's to sit on the inside of the 4x4.

And paint the steel bright yellow.
