Just what we are seeing in Mid-coast Maine, too. We will still get a few warm days, but I love the 70* temps. Beautiful country you live in. And some very happy pups!

Don't think its got much above 65f the whole summer apart from one of two days. Mostly when its been warm its been muggy then drizzled.

Not a nice morning again.

Had a walk up through the woods and met someone with a young male German shepherd that we've met a few times before. Its absolutely hyper and freaks Holly out. Lucy now starts whining when she sees it in the distance and wants to play though.

Made a start on the bank. Lovely majestic looking building. This is just the middle 2 floors.

Brake fluid level/handbrake warning lamp flickered on the dash while driving back from walking the dogs.
Thought it could be the handbrake switch as its always covered in sand and dog hair under the handbrake handle. Waggled the handbrake slightly and the light went on and off and then stayed off the rest of the way back until i turned into the drive when it came on again.
Checked the fluid level and its just under the minimum. It was filled to the max mark when i rebuilt the calipers in may so maybe its just dropped slightly after a while. Can't see a leak anywhere, though i'll have a proper look this afternoon.

Had a look under the van this afternoon. No leaking brakes, though a leaking clutch slave cylinder instead.
Its been leaking for a while it seems.

End of the hardline (well plastic) looked nothing like what its supposed to. It seemed to have a jubilee clip on it.

Nope, wire brushed it and its the end its supposed to have but was cunningly disguised as a mud jubilee clip. :ROFLMAO:

I'm walking Arlo for the foreseeable future as the inlaws got their car valeted yesterday and they don't want a muddy dog in it.
They're talking about getting a different car on saturday as my father in law can't easily get in this one with his dicky knee.

Went to Goodwick to get LPG this afternoon as the tank was getting low.
Quite happy with the MPG average since i converted it to run on LPG. Means i've saved around £600 a year over the past 13 years (or nearly £8k) vs running on unleaded.

Had a walk along the breakwater with the dogs again. Bit blowy and not that warm at only 13c (55f) but sunny enough.

Reset the tappets on my beetle this afternoon. Exhausts on 1 and 3 were a little loose but the rest were pretty much still spot on.
Drivers side rocker cover was mostly leak free but the passengers side one had leaked a bit more.

Inlaws went to look at a couple of compact SUVs yesterday and have come to the conclusion they can't afford to buy a new one as they only got offered £3500 ($4600) for their 2019 prius plug in hybrid. They weren't considering anything secondhand as they've become snobs in the past few years. They're now having to look at cheaper (possibly secondhand) cars now and they're not happy. :ROFLMAO:

Replaced the clutch slave cylinder on the caravelle this afternoon.
I've been spraying it with penetration spray for a few days so prayed it would come undone without bending or twisting the plastic pipe.

Access to one of the bolts isn't very good as the coolant hose from the thermostat is right in the way.

Worked out well. (y)

Unwound the slave off the pipe making sure not to twist it.

Old slave cylinder was a bit worse for wear.

Pre filled the new slave cylinder and wound it back onto the pipe before putting the mounting bolts back in.

Bit of grease in the cup on the end of the plunger and pushed it onto the clutch arm.

Tightened the bolts back up using my new favourite tool and bled the air out of the system.

Reminds me of the old bent distributer wrenches back in the day.

I had to replace my slave cylinder on my Dodge D150 more than once. The original mounting bracket was poorly designed. After I figured out that problem, I had a neighbor that worked in a welding shop made a good one that had 2 gussets that strengthened it greatly.
Its just a stupid bit of design by VW. The bolt head or nut depending on which way you fit the bolt is in here (arrowed).
Its only possible to get a bolt in from below through the hole the slave cylinder fits in.
I should have just welded a nut to the underside of the bracket when i had the transmission out a few years back, then it would have been simple to just put a bolt in from above.

Think my father in law is loosing the plot a bit.
Yesterday i told him i was gonna mow the lawn this afternoon once the sun had got onto it. At 11:30 this morning he started mowing it (as i never told him i was going to). He's never mown it in the 3 years we've been here.
The grass was still soaking wet as its always in the shade on that side of the house until around 1pm, so he was cursing away about it being too wet and the mower not picking up the grass. He went off in a huff after doing a couple of passes, complaining that he's the only one that ever does anything in the garden.
After lunch i did three progressively shorter passes, then raked up all the clumps of soggy grass the mower wouldn't touch. Lawn looked pretty decent.
He then came back out, complaining that there were grass clippings still there and then spent a couple of hours doing another 5 passes with the mower. Garden now looks like its got a 5 o'clock shadow its that short and has a lot of bare earth. Theres also more clippings left than when i finished 3 hours earlier.
He's now just emptied the mowers grass box into a pile as "once they're dried they can be spread over the bald sections of the lawn". I'm not sure, but i think he's expecting it to magically regrow or something.
He also wants the now virtually bald lawn mowed again tomorrow for some reason only known to himself.

I know his short term memory is now virtually non existant, but he's starting spouting all sorts of odd things. A bit like some of the things Trump has said.

Well hope he isn't THAT bad! Anyway, my wife developed Frontal Temporal Dementia over a few years. Started with some strange behavior such as complaining that her brother from about 1000 miles away was putting "things" in her head and taking her jewelry. So maybe he needs a visit with a neurologist assuming your health system will allow that.
