Furniture makers sometimes used less expensive wood that was local. Pecan comes to mind but it's one of the softer hardwoods. Have you tried using your thumbnail to determine hardness? Would like to see this during/after finishing.
-I must be thinking of some other hardwood. Thanks for clearing that up.Pecan is incredible hard for a domestic hardwood at 1800+ Janka. It's also ring porous, which the picture doesn't show.
Here’s the top and another pic of side. I’ve had sanded everything except for the two sides which I used my sander but will be hand sanding everything before stain. Started with 60, 220, 400 and I’m currently about to hit everything with 1500. I usually do a light 3000 swipe over everything as well but not sure I’ll do it this time. The top looks like a cheap veneer that I’ve done several times. Probably a few different type of woods. If I had to gauge hardness I would say it’s a 6 or 7. Pine being 1 and maple being 10.Doesn't look anything like walnut...
@Bamacruiser98 what have you done to strip the parts you show?
Do you have a view of the top?
I usually remove or just use pads if I keep the piece. My thoughts were also black walnut.

Any place you can shoot an image of the end grain?
And BTW those metal skid inserts on the bottom of the feet will do quite a number on wood floors; they should be removed. You can use dense felt instead.
That was my guess too but didn’t want to lead anyone. Not the biggest fan of hog but it’s really pretty piece so I’ll probably keep it light colored as I can. Thx for responseLooks like some form of "mahogany" to me.
400 and up? You're nuts!
Maybe cherry on the base, then - https://www.wood-database.com/black-cherry/. This little wood feature in the leg is very characteristic of it:If I had to gauge hardness I would say it’s a 6 or 7. Pine being 1 and maple being 10.
