Since I had them off, and a sunny day, I washed the wheels.

IMG_6184.jpeg

Front and back, got all the dirt and brake dust off. Chemical Guys‘ Diablo wheel cleaner is amazing.

Spent more time reverse engineering my front suspension. I think I now know what’s actually under there. It’s a Mustang II, probably 1974, that was widened about 1 1/2” at the crossmember. Then an ECI disk brake upgrade kit (GM rotors on Ford spindles) installed.

I called ECI and talked to their tech guy about what’s here.

Watched Remembrance Day ceremonies, sent in my form To become a member of the Legion(don’t really care about cheap beer but always a way to connect with the veterans and buy them a beer.

Then hit up some big box stores and grabbed me a small can of paint in the shade of ‘Concrete’ for my compressor cabinet.

came home painted it and put door back on, welding extension cord now sits on the inside, not the outside. Put tool boxes back where they belong.

then decided to move a drawer since one was broken thru on the bottom, it was just too deep for any thing where it sat.…removed two shelves and a drawer along with all hardware. Now I got me a sitting spot at a workbench which will help keep it cleaner of clutter.

Saturday. Not garage or yard, went to the NEC Birmingham for the Classic Car show.
Bedlam!
One hour 20 minutes journey took 2 hours with all the motor ways restricted and down to 50mph.
All good stuff inside though. Some films on youtube.
Always good talking with the folk who spend hours and fortunes restoring their cars. One had a De Tomaso Pantera, another lady with an old Alvis which was well turned out. GT40 replicas are something special. Four or five droop snoot Firenzas all in one place.
Massive autojumble selling any manner of spares for old mainly Brit cars. One chap was repairing one of British Leyland's offerings, can't even sit still in an exhibition without breaking down.
BOXO tools. Anyone know these? The tool chests looked ok and felt quite sturdy. Tools a bit too shiny.
Went for the shuttle bus back to the car park. Car Parks 1-4 , it said on it. I was in 5 so a short walk from 4, yes?
No! He went to park 1 then all the way back to the Exhibition. We all took our puzzled expressions for a long walk to our cars.

Trying to remove the last 2 exhaust studs on the Money Pit Baja. Broke exhaust stud bolt #8 trying to remove without breaking. It broke when I was unfastening the double nut used to try and back out. I had heated for a solid 15 minutes, 3 or 4 times with propane and hitting it with pb blaster. Welded a nut on broken stud #7 and after a bit of trying it broke off again. So now 2 broken studs out of 8. Par for the course. Frustrated and tried cleaning some of the grease and oil off the motor, ran out of degreaser, so it goes.

Made a mess on the bench:

20241111_151612.jpg

I decided to get rid of the extension cord and speaker wires for the stereo hanging down the wall from the ceiling. Shortened a spade bit to drill a hole in the top plate of the wall to fish wires down the inside of the wall, then cut openings for the two old work boxes.

20241111_151616.jpg

Fished the 12/2 romex and 3 speaker wires down to the openings and installed the receptacle. I ran out of speaker wire for the last speaker, so I left a piece of white 14 gauge wire in place to pull the last speaker wire with when I get some more.

Then I found that one of the new speakers didn't work. I thought about sending the bad speaker back for a replacement, but opened up the back to see if there was an obvious issue that could be fixed. The black wire to the terminal not even soldered to the connection, so I soldered the wire and put it back on the wall.

Now I just need another roll of speaker wire and the last 2 speakers to finish.
We used to diss Harbor Freight for quality control like that speaker. Now it feels like it's everywhere!:(

Caution: Photo heavy...

Started on the refurbishing of my 1938 Delta 820 RI motor...
Lots of wood dust and chips I banished with air...
My plan is to strip and add new paint, bearing replacement, new carbon brushes, and new grounded power cable / plug and recreate a missing motor brush access panel ...
There are some minor welding and recreation I'll need to do on the motor junction / switch box (missing screw tab)...

Melt a wax crayon on the thread area when you heat it again. The wax will flow into the threads better than penetrating oil when it is hot. Then weld a nut on and try again.

Gluing & clamping...

Edit:
Followed by unclamping, then gluing & clamping again in a different spot. This process is working rather well. That TB cold press veneer glue is the dogs ********. (& is runny enough to put in a 10cc syringe)

Yup, headlights. You get it at Blomart. You wet sand the headlights with what they provide. Then use the coating. It lasts almost a decade up here. Where you are, eh, dunno, maybe five?
five at best.

I used rubbing compound and polishing sponges to get it this far. Then just wiped it with a towel.
It looks like some of it is in the inside.
The truck is a 2012 and it's gone this long.

Most kits come with a clear coat to keep them from oxidizing again. Without a clear, they don't stay clear long.

My new Veritas #6 jack plane came in, so of course I had to put the blade on it and make some curls. This thing is nice. My skills are not worthy. I think this will finally force me to install the woodworker's bench vise on my big rolling bench. I don't have a decent way of clamping stuff on this bench for doing hand-planning like this.

Finished wiring a new 120V outlet to an existing outlet, stapled the wire to the rafters, ran one of the new speaker wires through the rafters to the far corner of the shop, waiting more wire and speakers to finish. Cleaned up the mess around the stereo shelf, workbench and floor and put tools away. Then grabbed the die grinder and wire wheel and started cleaning the grime, loose paint and rust areas under the front frame and crossmember of the Mustang so I can paint them and reinstall the steering rack. Now I have a new mess all over the floor.

Getting back to work on the cabinets project. I need to get this done soon to get all of the new doors out of my way in the basement.

Cabinet #1 has this weird inner edge thing.

IMG_6189.jpeg

The (screw?) holes in the face make it look like maybe something was mounted there. No idea what. Basically, it‘s just in the way and wasting space.

So, out it came.

IMG_6190.jpeg

Nailed from the outsides, so unreachable, and glued too.

Doesn’t matter, though, I’m going to line the inside with FRP.

IMG_6191.jpeg

Need to make a new shelf, now that I can go full depth. FRP shown is temporary, will not be installed permanently until after the face frame is painted.

Spent some time removing the first stuck battery from 3D MagLite I picked up at the Salvation Army this morning. Yeah, I know, there are better lights now, but I like the old Mags and I didn’t have a 3D. Red, too. Two more stuck batteries to go…

That’s a really nice plane. I have two #6 Stanley’s. I've restored one.

Just outside the shop, replaced the battery in the 8N, first one bought in May developed a dead cell. Replaced over the weekend and the battery didn't have enough juice to budge the motor. Unhappily made a 3rd trip to TSC and took my meter. Tested before I left the lot. Looks much better. Installed and fired right up! Check in the box!

Setting up to resaw some material for a couple of upcoming projects.
First I need to plane this Zebrawood parallel on both faces.

Here it’s shimmed on a sled to run thru the planer since I don’t have a jointer wide enough to handle this piece.
