I don’t know yet, I need to get it so that it runs, but I am not in a hurry to deal with it. If it works, it would probably live in the Quonset hut at the Hill.

Just got back, got to see Walrus this morning and then stopped I to see Tinker Rick this afternoon. I am waiting until tomorrow or Thursday to unload the forklift, still raining here.

Good to see you, kind of unexpected as I showed up to work where Strouty was feeding his fork truck addiction :) Was supposed to be an easy day but turned into a nightmare late in the day .

That stinks Walrus, those days seem to be going around. :(

So Tinker Rick was making fun of me because I didn’t have a spare oxygen tank, then he gave me one that I might be able to use, then I found the spare at the Salvage Garage. Look close.

It was hiding behind a cabinet that was on wheels, if I had not been so pissed off, I probably would have seen it.

I am pretty sure I had it there on purpose, I don't have a rack for loose bottles, so that was my solution. I am pretty sure that the last time I changed out an oxygen tanks was more than three years ago. I will see what the distributor says.

I think the weather forecast is now a bit more stable, so looks like I have today outside, tomorrow morning outside, then some rain for Turkey day afternoon/evening, Friday looks ok for outside and the rest of the weekend will be cold. I had a good start over at the Salvage Garage, I think I can make things essentially "white puffy rain" ready today. I then need to attack things at the Hill, lots of little loose ends to take care of, but it is doable. We probably have a bit more time than I think, but if I can get things to that readiness point, I can pick away at making it "better".

So many things to do, I feel like (no I really am) getting nowhere fast. Daylight is evaporating faster than my motivation can keep up. I am going to cut up some more bulky things and try to consolidate as much as possible. I will have to spend a couple days next week over here to get things close to where I would like. I suspect it will not be how I really want it, but it will work for the time being. As I work through things, I am trying to look at the big picture and put things away in a reasonable spot, trying to keep like with like. It is tough because everything is scrambled, so trying to sort stuff is time consuming when I can afford to waste the time the least.

I was trying to figure out what I am doing with the remnants of the large electric forklift, I forgot how heavy it was, the tag says without the battery the forklift weighs over 8 tons. Of course the only thing I have that can lift that is non functional so if I want to move the forklift, it is not going to be in one piece.

Why is it that everything I have to pick up is heavy?

I loaded the dump trailer with heavy things, then I put some of the stuff I am saving on a pallet, that stuff was heavy too.
IMG_0889.jpegIMG_0890.jpeg

I still need to deal with this stuff and guess what? It is heavy too.

IMG_0891.jpeg

Then after it gets dark I will go and get all the tanks filled, have to go to three different places for that.

I have been holding onto them in hopes that I can make a press like the guy from Florida and smash them to bits so I can have the copper. I am probably not going to wait that long, one of the local yards might pay a decent price, but I have to bring them to the yard so he can see what else he wants me to break down before taking them. I was going to do it last year, but they got stuffed in the back corner and then white stuff happened.

As I move stuff around, I am starting to come up with a plan for the yard at the Salvage Garage, the Hill is a different story, I don't have a good plan up there, at least not yet. Hopefully I will have everything figured out by next week, I am sure I don't have much longer before winter really settles in, but who knows, it could be a nice mild winter, although that means plowing mud and lots of rain that turns to ice. I like that idea less than the white stuff.

Fuel runs. Not my favorite thing, either.
Good news is that any projects should be covered up for a day or two. Supposedly we'll get 6" or so. I don't even plan to clear it. Should melt off pretty fast.

Getting a late start, but I had a few loose ends I had to deal with at the house. Headed to the Hill to grab a battery that I forgot to get last night, then headed to the Salvage Garage to unload all the gas cans and install the battery in Clark, I am tired of having to jump start the thing and it is only going to get worse as it gets colder.

The Salvage Garage is in the possible 2 to 4 area, but it tends to be on the higher side. I am definitely not plowing it, what a mess that would make!

Allegedly we have a chance for some snow tomorrow. Which in TN means today there will be a mad dash to the store to buy up all the milk and eggs. IF for some some strange reason we do get snow it will fail to even cover the grass in the yard since its November. January we might get an amount sufficient to cover the grass, my money is on it coming in February, though now that I have made the statement we will be snowed into our home for a week!

Got a touch of snow at the Hill, just enough to make the stairs to the office into a sheet of ice. I still haven't made it to the Salvage Garage yet, thinking I might just wait until tomorrow at this point. I have plenty to do at the Hill and travel time is a waste if I can't really accomplish anything.

The Salvage Garage had even less snow than the Hill. It is cold and going to creep lower all week, will slow me down a bit until I get used to the temps again. I am working on cutting up some more scrap that is bulky and in the way. I hope to have the front area mostly cleared out this weekend. I need a couple days to get things where I am not as worried about getting snow. The Hill needs a couple days as well, but I am not sure how I am going to pull the spare time out of my week. I have been making progress, so that is a plus, just want to make what looks like progress rather than just putting a dent in things.

i had a heck of a time cutting the old vertical pieces off this cart, the bottom 8” was full of mud and water! Whoever made the cart did a nice job on the lower part, but they left the vertical pieces wide open, the ice had ovalized the rectangular tube and a couple were split. I have some future plans for the rest of it, but I was tired of seeing those bloated vertical pieces. If I have time tomorrow I will clean up the rest of the mess, but it is good enough for now. I also took apart some old flatbed sides, I wanted the verticals and the e-track pieces, ended up with a couple pieces of plate as well as the aluminum plate from the placard holder. I am not going to stay much longer, my back has been arguing with me since last weekend and I do not want it to win.

Looks like the right size for a suburban chassis or body, doesn’t it?

That's a nice looking cart! Too bad they didn't drill some drain holes in those upright tubes or had capped them.
I'm sure it's warmer there.... here in SD, we've had 0F in the morning, warming to 14F. One benefit of that is that the ground is frozen, and snow (which so far is minimal) stays as "dry" snow, so it's easy to deal with.

I suspect by the end of the week the ground will be pretty frozen here, Our overnight temps are going to be low 20s and daytime low 30s, so pretty bearable.

The cart is tweaked, unless someone made it arched on purpose, it should hold everything I want to put on it without any issues. I figure I will make some brackets that will hold a frame or a body, that way I can use it for either thing. At some point I hope to actually start building a few burbs rather than letting them slow degrade into worthless junk.

Lets hope you stay with less snow than us. It just keeps snowing here. The outlaws in the UP called yesterday, they have 2 feet on the ground.

Would that be lake effect streamers?

They fired up hard this way on Friday. The worst hit seems to be cottage country east of Georgian bay. A big streamer setup over the same spot and dumped almost 5 feet of snow in less than 3 days.

We've got less than 6" here but they are calling for snow all week.

Many years ago I remember reading about this guy that was taking the 2500 Burbs and doing a D-max swaps. I wouldn't mind having an old CUCV but the days of snagging them at auction are long gone.

Not sure it's lake effect. Wind isn't blowing that hard. We've got about 6-7 here.

The early GM vans with Duramax engines had the 4L85E transmission and will physically fit into my body style with relative ease. The computer for the transmission is fairly easy to get functional as well. Almost bought a 2 wheel drive one from Florida, it was pretty cool, but it was bright red and I am more of a Maroon guy.

Back at the Hill, plugged int eh Hyster so it will be an easier start. I have to move some stuff around in the Quonset hut, then I can head out to the Salvage Garage. The plan is to get loaded for a scrap run, then move some things around inside so I can get one of the water tanks in there, the other partial one will just get drained. I am going to have to shuffle trailers tonight, I want to get a scrap run and a dump run done tomorrow morning, then I will have a trailer freed up to get rid of a load of tires (taking to dump). I have a couple trailers that I want to stow out back at the SG, then I am going to try and move the pile of wood beams, that is going to be a pain as I set the second tier with the BFF, so I will have to use the track crane to move some of them as my forks will not reach them all.

Looks like next week is going to be 40s and 50s again, so I am not super concerned with snow accumulating. I am going to just keep pushing forward, progress has been decent considering everything. Of course more progress would be better for morale. ;)

The Hyster forklift at the Hill would not start at all this morning, at first I thought the batteries were dead, but they had 12.43 volts, then I thought the disconnect was bad, nope. I used some jumper cables to ground the starter better, nope. Then I remembered that this engine had a clacky clacky fuel pump and it wasn't clacking. I then went to the ignition switch, guess I should have started there, but it was intermittent before this. A jumper wire and it starts right up, I thin this was always the issue, going to order a new one. I probably will check the other forklift for the same issue, but it has been starting fine lately, well, I haven't started it since the cold set in, that is always a challenge as it has no coolant, so I can't plug it in. Anyways, I am off to the Salvage Garage to see what trouble I can cause.
