When I came here…. Could not find a single decent 4” vise, which did not come off a boat, and was less than 200-300 bucks. Saw the need, eventually saved, cleaned up, restored, & sold a couple dozen good USA

vises, and helped several others with parts for repairs. Couple years later, those

there popped up, showing me a likely reason why demand evaporated.
The fb market combined, with local thieves/scammers, as well those local who are working with overseas scammers during COVID, made selling not only impossible, but dangerous… they think they are slick, but remained completely

ignorant of the fact that they are the 15th to 20th scammer, inside of five minutes of listing to contact you.
Just checked my logs… I had one listing that resulted in 79 messages from 5 legitimate market users, so 74 fake accounts in 2 hours, of those 5, 4 were what I call “softies..” meaning they only contact you seeking to lowball.. Or rather; only seeking desperate sellers for flip.
I have had 2-3 messages which disappeared the instant they messaged about a fb listing, which I believe demonstrated at least SOME efforts by fb to thwart the scammers.. way to little, way to late.
Remember, if/when a family member dies, please lockout their fb profile.. there’s an entire market for those no longer with us accounts’ to be used on/for fb for scams. The truth is, nobody round here gives a dang about quality American brands, and they are perfectly happy to buy the stuff made overseas, by the metric ton, off shelves from hd/lowes. Awhile back during my quest for one, there was a 4” Wilton bullet, with no base plate, at a pawn shop, which was still there last time i looked, for 350$… I think said factors, combined with the extraordinary cost of living here, leads to everything on the used market being marked up from their buy-up price. Makes perfectly fine sense, and is really a reflection of the geographic economy & market. Over the last four years it got a lot better, but the enabling factor for the scammers is coming back, so it is about to become hell, all over again.
Some mighty fine vises there… but now I am jealous of them solid shelves! Having some industrial shelving was a goal.
