Same thing happened to me with a douche selling a 66 Mustang 6 cyl convertible with the engine out. Some people on FB marketplace are very odd.
I saw an early 90's Cutlass Supreme convertible on there awhile back, guy had an asking of $1500 and claimed to have the title. It was in "OK" condition but not great, but I love that body style and the convertibles are somewhat rare.
I sent him a message basically of "where are you located? I have the cash in my pocket and a trailer"
His response "well I've got a few other people asking, what is your bid?"
I stated "I'll give you the 1500 you're asking for it no questions asked"
He said "nah, this is an auction now"
That's been almost a year ago, the car is still being reposted, I sent him a message back in December and he stated that same thing, he wants a bid. So he's decided it's worth more than 1500 because he got a lot of interest but not a single person is entertaining his ******** about auctioning a 30+ year old, non-classic car that doesn't run.

And then there's the pillow biters who don't need to sell but 'are just testing the waters'.![]()
Seller: "I know what I got, I don't have to sell"I've occasionally made very high offers to those kind of ads and then never follow up when they contact me with dollar signs in their eyes.
Yeah, I can be an ******* too.
It certainly predates Facebook. Most Facebook sellers are jerks.
I think this less indicative of FBMP in particular than our society at large.
There is way less honesty, decency, courtesy or humility than not so long ago. Draw your own conclusions as to why but its real and getting worse.
Perhaps this is true. The anonymity of the interner sure makes it easier to act like an ******* but I'm seeing it more and more in person too. It's been like that for a long time. the internet makes it easier to deal with more assholes, and it makes it easier for assholes to find you.

Back around 1988 I had a 24' SeaRay Sundancer on a "borrowed" trailer (A bizarre long story for another time) and the owner needed the trailer back so i had to scramble for a new one. I found a used one in good condition not far from where we kept the boat. It was in a yard with a for sale sign on it. Me and a buddy stopped and talked to the owner (think the guy who sold Christine in that movie) and agreed on $900. A new trailer would have cost about $3,000 and since the boat sat on a trailer at the marina and the marina operators launched and retrived the boat for me I didn't need a new trailer. We shot over to the bank and I withdrew $1000. We got back and I pulled $900 out and the owner said, "It's $1,000". I started to argue, then saw the look on his face and said, "Oh, yeah, $1,000". Got him to sign a bill of sale, hitched up the trailer and took off. Annoying, but the only other available option was a new trailer and I still got decent trailer at a very good price.
Yea, I'm gonna need some proof on that.Everyone should be nice and honest because Karma is a…real thing![]()
I needed a large job box and found one on Marketplace. I said I would pay his price which was fair but not a spectacular deal. He said I could pick it up in a couple hours because he wasn't home.
So, driving over he messaged me saying he got another offer for $20 more. I said I would match it and was
about 15 minutes away. He agrees and then again he messaged me saying he got another $10.
I messaged him back saying I would give him $50 over his original price. He agreed and I then turned around and went home.
Twenty minutes later he messaged me asking when I would be there. I messaged back "Have a nice day".
Whatever he was asking, it wasn't enough.I Me and a buddy stopped and talked to the owner (think the guy who sold Christine in that movie) and agreed on $900.
I moved into the house I'm at in 2005, their is a guy that had a Jag XJS for sale in the neighborhood. He literally finally sold it last summer. I saw and add on facebook for it, he was asking something like $4k. It had been plated the whole time, he must have paid morin insurance than what he sole it for. Some people don't know when to cut their losses. Some people on FB marketplace are very odd.
