My son is a facility manager for Cat, he's on his third promotion after reaching this level in 2019 as the youngest person in cat history to obtain his own facility.
I asked him if he could get Dad a discount, he said that he didn't even know Cat had tools branded Cat by someone else. But alas it appears they're only used and sold in Repair facilities, not a corporate extension of Cat.

I use to have a 3/8 metric socket in HS that was given to me by my GF’s dad who was a welder at CAT. Back in the 70s and 80s tools like sockets went home in pockets all the time. I needed a certain size that I didn’t have, Dad didn’t have, and her dad didn’t have the next day when I got to her house he handed me 2, one for my box and one for Dad’s. This was in the late 80s and I believe they were Proto.

I am not surprised by the scissors being imports. I ran into the same thing when I was looking to upgrade my kitchen shears (they look identical to those). Even the some of the Wusthof offerings were made in China.

If you want to drop some money on some really nice kitchen shears, check out Ernest Wright.

*Note I spent way too much time going down a rabbit hole looking for some buy it for life scissors and kitchen shears.
I’ll check those out. Planning to go scissor shopping on my next trip to Japan as well - I’d like a few good shop shears of different sizes.

^ I went back up to HF about an hour ago. Sold out. Store only got four pairs.

I am not driving to Federal Way to buy a $25 pair of pliers - Not gonna happen. Hopefully they'll get some more in before the next ice age.
I didn't even bother trying to get them in store. Ordered 3 of them online and had them on my doorstep in a couple of days.

I ordered direct from the manufacturer.

Ultimately it's exactly the same price. If I only ordered one be cheaper if I ordered more than one and since I ordered the primary item plus their screw holder...
Wouldn't that screw holder block a screwdriver?

Different product, but it might. They listed for bolts.

I have no idea if I'll actually find it useful. Had a couple times where I know the other product could have been very helpful.

It wouldn't take much to drill a hole through the back, if it came to it.

You might want to check out Cutco scissors. They are heavy duty, come apart for cleaning, guaranteed for life, can be returned for service, and expensive ($141.00 currently).

We've got several and never needed any service. They used to be demonstrated by cutting pennies and then cutting paper.

1/4" drive long ball-end hex. This one is 5mm.

I posted the individual components of this before, but it's not a tool I could find anywhere readily. A bit of a specialty item, but 5mm ball end hex is one I use relatively regularly for torquing a specific fastener (which needs to be done via a 1/4" torque wrench). Previously needed to use adapters from 3/8" drive tools or from 1/4 hex to 1/4 square. So this just makes that process easier and was easy enough to press together using a Blue Point 1/4" 5mm socket and a Snap On 5mm ball end hex insert.

The wind put the final nail in the coffin of an already warped (and damaged mount) storm door closer, and of course, I wandered around Lowe's.

No V-Series in clearance, but I finally got the mini buckets I've been looking for. Also, these Kobalt screwdrivers are really nice--no Duratek (and I'm sure the Williams rebrands I'm picking up from my CAT dealer are better too), but they're great for $5 a driver.

The steel Behrens bucket replaces the old plastic paint pail I feed the chickens with.

Antiques store on the way home. Twelve bucks for everything.

Coastal (made in Sheffield, England) tweezers--bought for the hobby/electronics box, and because I've had several jobs where big tweezers would've got where thin pliers couldn't.

There's a company selling sign-making supplies with this name, but I don't know if these are a rebrand for them or not.

KIMG1382.JPG

Mayhew #61 5.5" fixed-joint pliers.

I bought them as pocket pliers, but according to Alloy Artifacts, these could be 100 years old. So, collection pliers--guess that still means I'm getting the CAT 6" Snap-On rebrand as my pocket pliers. Finding 6" and under pliers and Crescent wrenches in the wild is tough--unless you want to pay antiques store prices, so of course I sprung for these.

KIMG1384.JPG

Vaughan's "15c" can opener (the old "ripper" style), bottle opener, and corkscrew. Guessing with the 15 cent price tag stamped in, and the can opener style, it too is close to a century old.

KIMG1385.JPG

Not tools, but some diecast stuff as well.

Mercedes ML320--Jurassic Park. Never found this one when new.

KIMG1388.JPG

Same with the Fleetwood RV/mobile lab.

KIMG1387.JPG

Kyle Petty's 43 Dodge--a cereal box promo from 2008. I thought they went to plastic long before that--mine as a kid was from 2003.

KIMG1386.JPG

2001 GI Joe--Dusty, I think.

Missing most of the accessories, but not in bad shape. Still in one piece--something my childhood GI Joes of the same age didn't do, as the O-Rings that attach the torso to the legs dry-rots.

KIMG1389.JPG

Oh, and I'm buying a Jensen 70 steam engine in a couple of days that he had cheap. Just needed to look up the part numbers. Been wanting a model steam engine since I was a kid, and even with the few parts it needs--I'm still in at a third of the new price.

Anyone ever convert the electrically-heated models over to running fuel tablets?

I wish we had Menard's around here.

I do as well.

WV has a couple, but the closest is a three hour drive for me. Thus, not really worth it.

If they follow Rural King's expansion into Southern WV and SWVA, it would be great. But, they don't have one thing working in their favor that Rural King did--loads of ex-Sears and Kmart stores landlords were basically begging new tenants to move into.

Other than new construction, I couldn't think of any other way for them to get new stores in my area.

My two arrivals for the day. The Olsa magnets are for home and the Lisle tool is for work. I sprung for the red magnets. The orange are a few bucks cheaper.

If you can tolerate an extra half-inch of length, consider these 6.5-inch, flush fastener slip joints from Wilde. They, and their larger cousins, are superb.

I've been eyeing this set for a while and decided to get it after hearing people have great experiences with not only the tools , but the warranty too. No skip 10-38mm 6pt 1/2 drive sockets.
@$100 this must be one of the best value sets out there I think. I dont like the shiny chrome finish though but if it's a tool and does what it says it can do well, I can overlook something trivial like the finish.

Another new arrival to the shop:

54285429499_f924550242_b.jpg

I see folks here are pretty impressed with this stuff, so decided to give it a try. Hell, it's lanolin-based, so I can use it for hand cream, too!

I applied it to the brewery tools this morning. That'll be a good test of its rust-prevention ability as they're pretty much wet all the time.

I was pulling the straw out of the tape this morning and thinking: "Why don't they just put a clip or something to hold the damned straw that'll be lost in about ten minutes?" when I noticed the clip on the cap. Kudos!

I used to use fluid film exclusively for marine applications then I switch to this and haven’t looked back.

I’d been replacing all my sockets with Tekton. Going to be ordering their 12pt 3/8” and 1/2” sets next. Only experience so far with a warranty claim was a socket rail clip arrived broken and the same day they had 5 news ones in the mail to me. 👍

I really appreciate the complete sets.
I would opt for impact, but the chrome sure is shiny.

Catching up a bit here.
This was on sale right after Christmas. Not yet at a point where I need all the room, but the other chests are getting crowded.
IMG_9150.jpeg
Picked up a mini box from HF for pens, markers, etc.
IMG_9151.jpeg
Needed socket holders for new impact set as well as a new set of deep 3/8” SAE sockets that I didn’t previously have.

Auction. Both need a good cleanup before I play with them.

Torn between this Darex and a Black Diamond. Preferred the BD but the BD was missing the collet holder, so I went with this drill sharpener. This one had all three drill holders, but when I went for pickup, two were missing. After a bit of hunting, I found them in the box of another lot a few tables over. Don't know if it was an accident or if someone was getting frisky. I've been hand sharpeneing my bits for years and get quite good results, but due to the sheer volume of bits I have this will be much faster with less human error.

And this, and end mill sharpener. Supposed to be able to sharpen reamers on it as well. A piece was missing off the machine itself but it was mixed in with some junk on the lower shelves of the rolling cart it was sitting upon. That is indeed an air ****** on the side of the collet holder. Collet holder rides on a layer of compressed air.
