Casters to use for Lista and Vidmar boxes

I picked up a 11 drawer Vidmar Sunday and I'm looking for casters. With this setup is any type of stiffener needed? I'm short so 5" plus casters are going to put this in the air. I do have 15 of these 2-1/2" casters

Dreamer, you can mount casters directly to the runners on the bottom of the cabinet, no stiffener needed.There’s even a bolt pattern for the caster base already drilled, the holes are kinda oversized and you may need oversized flat washers. The hole pattern is generally for the 5-6” caster base.

I’d make sure the casters you have can handle the weight, the cab is at least 400 lbs empty.

You will probably need to drill out the runner to match those base plates.

Be careful with the smaller diameter wheels as debris can can stop them dead with that weight.

Aside from large washers to distribute the stress on the plates on the Vidmar, nothing else needed. As to the wheels, just from the picture those are not enough for the cabinet. Cabinet alone is close to 600lbs. You should be going for casters of minimum 900lbs each wheel, as moving them around on a rough surface may place most of the weight on 1 or 2 wheels. If one of these cabinets loaded falls your way due to a collapsed wheel hope you have a life insurance policy for the wife and kids.

Just saw this thread. Make sure you install IDL's on each of the drawers if you're converting to a mobile base. The "one drawer at a time" safety feature does not work if multiple drawers open simultaneously while the cabinet is being moved.

for occasional moving, you would be better served buying a short and narrow low profile pallet jack. this goes double if you have multiple cabinets you are considering adding casters to.

Example below. You can get them with shorter forks elsewhere for additional mobility. Measure your fork base and get one that will fit.

I have two cabinets that are listed, Stanley, Vidmar not sure which. They have two different bases on them. One has the forklift pocket base and I mounted casters to those. The other one has an upside down U channel base. Anybody knows the maker of this type let me know buy something already fab if not I’ll have to make something. Pictures attached. The outside dimension is about 2-1/8”.

I have the same u channels. Curious what was done to add casters for this style of base.
