Mail lady made my day, really didn’t think this would get here this week! Husky 16” large mouth tool bag. I kinda treated myself on this one, somebody posted it in a thread several months ago and I liked it. I’ve been researching for weeks trying to make up my mind, reading reviews and fondling the different options at all the stores. I almost pulled the trigger on the $25 one at Harbor Freight, but at the last second I walked out empty handed. So I went back to the Home Depot website and was checking this one out again trying to justify the $50 to myself. And then I see that the shipping would be free so I added it to my cart just to see if it was true. Sure enough it was, and they also finally got my tax exemption certificate added to my account so there was no tax either. Shipped to my door for $49.97, so I pulled the trigger.

I’ve been wanting to upgrade tool bags for a little while. I keep this one in my feed truck most of the time, but I also switch between my trucks pretty frequently and I like to take it with me depending on where I’m headed. It came with my Ingersoll cordless impact and it’s been great. It’s been LOTS of miles with me but it hasn’t been “used” much so it’s still in great shape. It was just totally out of room as you can see.

IMG_8010.jpeg

The biggest thing that drew me to this particular bag was the little storage compartment on the bottom. It seemed kinda gimmicky at first, but then I thought if my 3/8” Tekton socket set in the blow molded case would fit in it, I wouldn’t have to empty the whole bag to get it out of the bottom. I tried like hell to find where someone had told the dimensions of the compartment but I didn’t find any. So I took a chance.

IMG_8011.jpeg

I wasn’t sure at first, it sure looked big compared to the opening.

IMG_8012.jpeg

But it fit right in there just like it was made for it. It has to go through the opening at a little bit of an angle, but it doesn’t take any force at all.

IMG_8013.jpeg

And there it is all loaded up. I have a few more things I want to add now that I have the room and I’m already working on that. Overall really happy I went with this one. It’s really well made and has way more pockets than I can utilize. You can see that I removed the “tool wall” that velcros in the center and has more pockets for storing tools upright. I will say that this thing is HEAVY even when empty, it’s got some framework and a hard plastic bottom with feet. So if a guy was gonna carry it by hand every day it may not be the correct choice, but for me to haul around behind the seat of the truck just for the rare occasions I have to work on something away from my main toolbox, it’s fantastic.
I liked yours so much I picked one up for myself. Sure beats the cardboard box I was using temporarily. :ROFLMAO:
(yes, I need to upgrade the freebie multimeter; my Fluke lives in my toolbox at my workshop)

I used the bottom compartment for my nut driver set and 9" level. I couldn't come up with any way to fit them inside the bag I liked that would let it close properly.

Are they any better (longer) than these? This is the set I currently have.

I did come across these last night but they don't have +000. I may just buy some bits.

Some food for thought…. From right to left:

Stahlwille PH0
Wera (short) PH0
PB Swiss PH00
Wera (short) PH00
PB Swiss PH000
Vessel nut driver for size reference - I’m sure the screwdrivers are the same size though. For what its worth the quality of the PB Swiss and the Wera are on a par, better than the Vessel.

Theres also these alloy grips on UK ebay for vessel drivers:

I called Mac Tools to see about a repair kit for an older 30t ratchet that lost its retaining ball. The rep I knew gave up his route many years ago. Despite reports here that those kits are NLA, the kind professional lady knew exactly what I needed and said it was still available, confirmed my address (already a customer in their system) and told me it was on its way with no request to send anything in. A complete kit with all new components for a full rebuild showed up in a few days and was exactly what I needed to get it back like new.
Great, fast, hassle-free customer service is worth mentioning these days! (y) (y)

I picked up this wire wheel for our 4 1/2" AG today:

54386879425_530b757e36_b.jpg

to clean up the live edge of this nice slab of Oregon White Oak:

54386508976_efd1a4cce0_b.jpg

to use as a prop for my pub food photography.

I don't normally use either the guard nor the handle on the AG, but, given a wire wheel spinning at 14,000 rpm, decided to make an exception.

Looks like you've missed out on the trend of internet pimple popping videos! You may like it that way. It can get... extreme.

Anyway, those comedone extractors aren't hard to find for sale on the internet. I don't have one... yet... but I do like fiddly little tools for difficult little situations, so now I'll have to think about it...

Dermatologist comedone extractor.
Repurposed for holding the spring-loaded ball so the pawl can be inserted.

I had one that was bought from Avon ages ago--now, seeing as I have a bunch of ratchets with quick-release mechanisms needing new repair kits, I hope I still have it somewhere. My guess is--I tossed it.

They're super nice to have when needed!
I also had to get the big brother for additional
non hood-related prop-ery. Love this thing too

Where I come from, we have a thing called a ski pole for the same purpose.

I finished the Oak prop for my food photography:

54387084270_7d3160aa41_b.jpg

I gave it goodly drenching with thinned BLO on all surfaces, then hit just the "live edge" (actually, the rotted edge) with some Walnut Watco Danish oil (basically, thinned BLO with stain). I think it'll add some interesting texture to my pictures.

Ski pole doesn't adjust to fit inside the cargo boxes 😋

After something like 15 years of fighting the bed base / storage lid in the RV (support shock gave up ages ago), I bought a 1-inch wooden dowel, cut it to length, and use that when i need to access the under-bed storage. Other people probably would have repurposed an old broom handle, LOL.

One of these days, I really SHOULD attach it with a hinge so I don't knock it out of position and have the whole thing crash on me...

It basically looks like this pic.

81rv8b5B1ML._AC_UF1000,1000_QL80_FMwebp_~2.jpg

I could just replace the existing pistons, or upgrade to a linear actuator, but the RV is 32 years old, and every year we say we're going to trade up. Maybe next year, LOL...

Boy, howdy, Eddie, have I been having fun buying and using new tools today!

I had to buy a new drill-power transfer pump for our propylene glycol today:

54387182468_cc3a9e4493_b.jpg

as the one I bought a few years ago has vanished (due to find it any moment now). Propylene glycol is viscous stuff and you'll **** your ribcage inside-out before you ever start a siphon with it.

I had to add a total of 45 gallons of 33% glycol, one five-gallon bucket at a time, to this little 350 gallon tank:

54386072622_6371e16859_b.jpg

the opening of which is 4 1/2' off the ground, reminding me that propylene glycol is about 1/3 denser than water--and I'm not twenty years old anymore.

Beer thirty!

Any suggestions on how to get Banned from Horrible freight?
Grabbed the grinder last Sunday an hour before close and end of sale @ $20 Now the sale is extended.
Already have the 5in orbital and have been hard on it. Still going but I figured I should grab another... just in case for $20
Almost bought the transfer pump last week too, glad I waited again, $7
More Crummy Zipties and a couple of the $2 extendable magnets. More means easier to find when needed.

Few days ago I saw the 2ft splitter extensions were on ITC. 2nd floor in the shop I have shelving down both sides and the receptacles are (were) a PITA to access. So these fixed that.
CR2032 restock for a few tools in garage. Always wanted a mini torch and for $7... Had To. Already "FIXED" the lock-out.

That little torch is, in every way I can see, identical to my $40 Bernzo!

How did you go about disabling the lock-out? That thing drives me up the wall, but for $40, I didn't feel like experimenting.

Nice! I’m loving mine, moved it between trucks a couple times and have added a few items.

Just giving a shout-out to that Forney wire wheel. It took me about five minutes to clean up and texture that rotten wood and I found no evidence of a single wire shedding from the wheel--at 14,000 rpm! Well done, Forney!

I was dressed like the Goodyear Tire man due to past experiences with wire wheels spinning at far lower speeds.

And now I notice the trigger lock on the bottom of the grip so I didn't need the quick-clamp....

I don't use the corded drills much anymore, except for things like this where the drill needs to run continuously under load for up to ten or fifteen minutes at a time... if you want to see what the Magic Smoke inside your cordless drill looks like, try that. Besides, that Skil corded drill cost like $25. If the smoke gets out, there are more where that one came from.

9mm has many uses. For instance... something... I know I've used one... somewhere? Oh, yeah, it's the next size above 8mm!
