I am on WWT periodically, there are a ton of beginner questions and issues, some good knowledge there, but it seems many threads devolve into old men arguing. I may get on LJ and see what it is like.
Yeah, that's what I want to avoid: a buncha old farts arguing about nothing! Ha!
You might give it a try, I have honestly stepped away from it a couple of times due to some of the same people doing the same thing over and over. You have the one that answers every question and makes the point over and over, then the one that was in the business for 30 years and knows the only way to do things. Then some really sharp folks that chime in occasionally. I learned a couple of tips years ago, but really haven't gleaned any good info there is some time.
Not on your list, but Sawmillcreek.org is pretty active and well moderated. The real name requirement puts some people off, but it also keeps people accountable. I don’t do much woodworking these days, but I’ve been a paid member there for over ten years.

I considered it, but it seems it's aimed at pros who own a mill and not a general hobbyist like myself. I think you have to pay to see any photos, too.
I thought of that. I think I want something that has multiple threads/posts to make it easy to search and that is specific to woodworking because this site is very general (a good thing). Then again, this site does have lots of knowledgeable people on it. I may just post my questions here. Maybe the moderator (@Ryan ) can make a woodworking section?

I took a look at it. I initially thought it was a paid site for the magazine of the same name. I'll take a second look and maybe lurk for awhile and see if it would suit my needs.Have you considered.

I liked it when I was on it. It was well moderated.
I've been around most of the woodworking forums for years. I was even the moderator for the Wood Magazine hand tool forum for several years. There are all kinds of woodworking and all kinds of woodworkers. Some guys are hand tool only, some are hand tool plus power. Some work only sheet goods and want a pocket hole jig and a track saw. Others work mostly hardwoods and need a planer, jointer, table saw, bandsaw, etc. The OWWM guys want everything US or European made and over 25 years old. Many of the forums are dominated by one type or another. Some even forbid discussions that fall outside their interest area. Many of the younger folks want to discuss the current crop of Asian built machines available at the box stores. Some of us collect vintage hand tools or vintage machinery. I collect and use both. I attended the Colonial Williamsburg "Working Wood in the 18th Century Conference" in 2005. Very interesting how efficient you can be with hand tools when you know what you're doing and how to tune them. It was sponsored by Society of American Period Furniture Makers. Very serious woodworkers. They have a great forum if you are into hand tools and early American furniture.I'm looking for a woodworking forum similar to this one. Preferably with a large and active membership similar to this forum, and hopefully with the vBulletin formatting.
Does anybody have a lead, know of, or frequent a forum as good as this one that is geared toward woodworking?
I wonder if it changed over the years, I used to be on sawmill all the time when I did woodworking, I had a cnc, not a huge one though but I still would make all kinds of things and sell them in my wife’s beauty shop.
