I've been looking for a light fixture for over the miter saw area. The problem is I don't like the look of standard shop lights, and I'm too cheap "fiscally responsible" to buy a nice looking one. My solution was to make a box out of scrap wood and paint it black, then mount the inexpensive shop light in it. Now I just have to figure out a solution for the cord dangling down....

I’m not going to spend a lot of time and money trying to make things Perfect or Pretty, many of my light fixtures are efficient and inexpensive.

The other day, my wife said that car was emitting a foul odor once it was at operating temperature. She said it smelled similar to the odor that ladybugs emit when they get incinerated in a halogen uplight. Yep - that’s exactly what it smelled like - not like an immolated mouse or other mammal.

So I popped the hood and looked everywhere I could see. Nothing. Absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. Well, I did see a small oil leak(s) around the auxiliary vacuum pump. Truth be told, this is the first engine issue since the car was new in 2008. All that I’ve done in that time was fluid & filter changes, brakes and rear shocks, so the car owes us nothing. Best of all, she is perfectly happy driving it!

Bezos delivered an o-ring repair kit for $12 and removing / cleaning and rebuilding the pump only took a few hours working at a leisurely pace.

The smell? It seems to be dissipating and I figure something is sitting on or near the cat or muffler. Since I don’t have a lift, I am disinclined to investigate further - embracing my inner sloth.

Nor I. Jack's and ramps. In the last year or so it's started to wear on me, laying under vehicles. Been looking at lifts, but so far thats all I've done is look. Embracing my inner cheapskate.;)

Thanks to a friends help with the wiring and plumbing the Transair lines, I finally have compressed air.

The compressor was delivered about two months ago, but due to a multitude of reason, we just got it wired and hooked up this evening.

Makes 24cfm @ 175psi. Fills the 80 gallon tank from empty to 170psi in about 4 minutes.

No leaks in my redneck cooler/water separator, the Transair plumbing or the three regulator/filters at each drop.

The green light on the exterior of the tool room tells you the compressor is energized, the red one tells you the Milwaukee and Dewalt chargers are energized so I don’t forget to turn them off at the end of the night.

I just got done milling a head to clean up some damage. This was one of the worse castings I've done. When I started cutting the squish band, one side started cutting in pretty even. The other side was about .035" in before the squish started evening out. Not totally great LOL!

Bought what they called a potting bench at an estate sale. Originally $50.00. Was 25 percent off second day of sale so $37.50. Got a friend to help me haul it to the shop. I moved it in by myself using secrets of the ancient Egyptians. My back feeling it now. Two pieces. Top is heavy and awkward. Has tiny casters on legs but they so underrated as to be useless. Will figure out a better caster system later.

That is a cool old table - likely converted to "potting bench! I'm betting the side drawers have dovetail or other more old school joinery.

It would be interesting to see what is under the grey paint (can we be done with "grey everything" yet?)

Loaded a tire and tire/wheel to be swapped tomorrow morning. Hooked up the trailer for a run for a friend. Maybe he buys a new project. Hung up the bug zapper for the season and started to open up the air conditioner for a cleaning. Starting to look like it'll be a busy weekend.

Uggg... I don't like repairing failed circuit boards...
A few weeks back, the new owner of my business had a problem with one of my shop machines... I offered to help...

Making a long story short, the control board on the machine was damaged by the manufacturer's technician that was called for the repair...
This is a mid 60's era machine... The circuit board has been discontinued and new / old stock doesn't exist...
The technician working on the machine did not perform a lock out / tag out procedure before starting the work...
He pulled the board while it was live and shorted it against the metal frame of the machine... Sparks flew...
It now has a pretty good carbon arc burn on the steel frame... Damage to the board was instantaneous...
Fortunately, the technician wasn't injured... Other than his pride...
Communications continue between the two companies about the electrical damage...
I won't get into any more about what's transpired since...

So I offered to help...
At this point I have replaced some of the items that were obviously damaged showing heat / burning of the componentes...
Bridge rectifier
SCR
820 ohm resistor
NPN transistor...
New DIY 14 wire ribbon cable with new pin connectors...
Btw... That new solder sucker is Da Bomb... Works fantastic...

IMG_4750.jpg
Took it down to the shop and installed my repaired board... Powered up the machine and it "partially" came alive... Making progress...

Brought the board back home to the garage and started searching for the 11 pcs of plug in circuit board CMOS gates...
Well, can't find a source... My goto is Mouser Components out of Texas... Listing shows unavailable / discontinued...
These components are 1970's vintage (Viet Nam era electronics), so 55 YO stuff...

Ebay to the rescue... Found all the items for about $100.00
When the parts arrive, it will be much easier to plug the parts into the sockets on the board...
I just hope I don't need to un-solder some of the other parts that have multiple soldered pins... That will be a nightmare...

Still recovering from the work on my kids Jetta, but wall cabinets (cheap unfinished Menards ones but they'll do) are going up FINALLY. This is my first attempt ever hanging cabinets and I'm happy so far. No stud on the left side of the far left cabinet so I'm going to shore the gap and go into the side wall instead.....probably will leave the furring strip there along the bottom since the lights will hide them after the fact. I'll tinker some more after dinner tonight and tomorrow I'm going to try to get the big cabinet torn down and moved so I can get the other two in. They're 33" wide each and the wall span is 135" so it's a pretty good match.

Changed it Stop Block on my Miter Saw so I can cut a taller stack of boards at once. The previous one was 1 5/8 tall made from a 2X6 mounted on the flat. The replacement is a short length of 4X6, mounted on the can’t.
My purpose is to speed the process of cutting pieces for the Planter Boxes.
