^WOW! Nothing like having a shower stall big enough for the whole family to shower at once. I guess you can save money on the water bill that way.

Absolutely fantastic pics. Any shots of the outside of the house to see the style? Heck...a little thicker door and you have yourself a "safe room"

What make are these lights? I really like them. I see the uplight, but what is the small slot underneath for?

The slot on those lights is mostly a design element, but a small amount of light does wash out of them.

Here's a few shots of the front courtyard. I need to take some night time shots because flames shoot out of the stainless sphere sitting on top of the waterwall and it looks like it is full of melting ice when I turn the fire on. Pretty cool effect.:

My garage bathroom, nothing fancy but a must have. The left of my desk is up against the bathroom wall. So I have about 2 steps....

I work for a high end plumbing products company, and while I spotted a lot of our competitors products and none of ours, I can really appreciate some of the design choices you've made in your bathrooms. Very cool and not something most people can pull off.

Are you running a tankless water heater for the shower setup above? I can see about 20 GPM worth of fixtures, which can't be easy for a typical residential tank unit to keep up with.

Actually, no. Our contractor tried to talk me into one, but it just doesn't seem like it would keep up to me. Maybe sometime down the road I might revisit that option. We have twin 75 Gallon hi recovery Rheem units.

Sounds like you've got plenty of volume on tap. If you are using thermostatic valves in your shower you can run into issues trying to pair it up with an a tankless water heater. The water heaters usually won't kick on below a certain flow rate, and the thermostatic valve won't flow very much below a certain temperature, so the two are fighting each other.

Yup. I think you are right on target!

What the hell is a potato gun??? Pics?

home made cannon made of pvc fittings. The top of the barrel has a chamfer edge to slice the potato. Jam it down the barrel like a muzzle loader. Use hair spray in the chamber to ignite an explosion. Shoots raw potatoes about 100 yds.

My version of the potato gun worked best with a 4" PVC section as the fuel chamber that's about 10" long with a 1.5" barrel about 3' long. 1.5 seconds of hairspray and a bbq pit piezo ignitor wired to 2 screws/bolts as electrodes about 1/8" apart.

This will launch a 1.5 x 3" potato about 200-275 yards - gotta get the hairspray/air mix just right.

That's enough to be VERY dangerous!

P.S. That aint me either.

Measuring with a GPS out on a frozen lake, we were getting around 250-300 yards on average with the gun dimensions about the same as yours. Made the entire thing in our college dorm room using literally only a Leatherman Wave for tools.

Back on topic, your inside outhouse is the best idea I've ever seen. Truly awesome.

How do you like that. They are installing one of those in my upcoming garage remodel. The plumber talked me into it.

It's working out just fine. It get's occasional use, so maintenance is easy. I just spray with a cheap widow cleaner in a spray bottle every once in a while. I could see them not very good for public use though.

jgabl,

Very nice garage theme, how is your floor holding up? I read an article awhile back about using Copperas to stain the floor and then a water base clear coat. Really like the idea of a greener floor and not using acid.

I'd seriously recommend reading whatever instructions came with your waterless urinal before spraying window cleaner in there. 90% of the problems people have with them in commercial applications are due to cleaning staff just assuming you can dump whatever cleaner is handy in there to keep it fresh. There is normally a special sealing liquid that is less dense than urine in the trap of the urinal, so the urine "sinks" below it, sealing out the odors. Pouring cleaners into it can greatly reduce the effectiveness of the trap seal liquid, which needs to be topped off periodically.

For a garage installation, it's probably not a huge concern, but you can also get pretty bad urine scale buildup inside drain lines with waterless urinals.

Here's mine, it's 3' X 6'. Big enough, but doesn't take up too much floor space.

How are you guys dealing with the plumbing?

Are you putting in waste lines that connect to the house sewer line (at a lower elevation than your shop floor)

or are you digging some kind of septic tank / field just for your shop bathroom?

I have a pole barn at a rental house which I retain use of as the landlord - I've thought about adding a bathroom for years - but - being in the suburbs of Detroit - freezing has always been a concern - as well as the hassle of building some kind of septic since the shop is at a lower elevation than the house.

All of my drains run into a sump with a grinder pump in it. You can see in the picture, it flows through the ball valve, into the 3" PVC and up to my septic. I tied into the main drain coming out of my house just before the septic tank. It's about a 5' rise to the septic, but the pump does a great job.

Thanks! Yep, Copperas is what I used. Floor is holding up well, though were wifey parks van and pulls in and out 6-8 times a day the clear sealer has to be redone every year due to salt in winter and being 10' off alley which is salted(ugh). :wtf: Still working on getting her to leave van out once it's out.... :lol_hitti

my wife sent me a link to it. i didn't know what to think of it at first. but i could not stop thinking about it. by the time i got home that day, i had to have it. so, i called them up.

i talked to them on the phone about doing a custom version of the wrench rack that would hold ALL my metric wrenches (in order, not staggered like the picture), and maybe a small one for ignition wrenches. i am going to talk to them, when i pick up my crapmaster 3000 next week.

You are correct. This is why I only lightly spray cleaner occasionally. Been in service since Feb w/no odors
