I guess I am just going to have to deal with the cradle being heavy, I reduced a few sizes and changed out some materials and I still have it at 1163 pounds without doing anything to the channel irons. I need to rethink things a bit tonight, but I have to fab the thing tomorrow. I think instead of making the channel iron into a box, I am going to just do a few pieces of it on the bottom, I want the forks captured, but it doesn't need to be completely boxed in. I think I could also cut circles in the major flat part as I am not using it for structure in that direction.

It will be fine...

I definitely underestimated the cradle weight, so I am trying to cut that back a bit. Just the four channel irons I was going to use weigh 500 pounds. I would like to keep it around 750 pounds, going to have to do some weight reduction for sure.
I may have confused multiple post, but when you mentioned 10lbs a foot, I thought you were talking about the beams, and I thought you were under estimating the weight. I probably misread something though. :badteeth:

We spent way too much effort today trying to make 8 point wrenches, the dang plasma cutter setup needs to be fully checked over, it has to be out of whack, we were cutting trapezoids and parallelograms instead of anything that resembles squares. It looks like we can make it work by oversizing things by 10 thousandths, but it still looks like *** and I am almost embarrassed to even make them. I have open end wrenches, but I thought it would be nice to just have a wrench that fits the square heads, oh how a simple task can get way to involved. If I had even slightly thought that this would be an issue, I would have ordered extra 8 point sockets and cut them off to make my wrenches. I can say one thing for sure, once I am done with the bridge crane adventure, I am going to concentrate on the shop tools like the Bridgeport, plasma table, and lathe. I have so many things that I need to do that involve those pieces of equipment, they have to get to full functioning ASAP.

I have three days worth of welding, but only two days to do it. :(

Yesterday the bandsaw started making terrible noises, the bearings in the tensioner side of the machine ended up being very dry and crunchy. Luckily they were a common size and I got some local, that would have been disastrous otherwise. Still sucked up two hours of my day.

I stopped in last night to see if the inspection place had finished Perk and the Muv-All, they hadn’t touched them, I am going to talk to the service manager this morning. A bit frustrated, if there is an issue, I am not sure I will be able to fix it before I need to leave and not having Perk in the yard has been a problem as the yard donkey has an air valve that needs to be replaced, so I haven’t been able to shuffle the extendable trailer yet. Going to have to do that today, one way or another. Wish me luck.

I started welding just about the time my ride showed up. Going to pick up some supplies and then get back to it. I need to have at least the fork extensions welded and would like to have the custom channel iron clamps welded up too. At least it appears any rain is going to hold off for me, that would have made things a lot worse.

Well, it has been an exciting morning, Perk's repairs did not go well. I ended up on the side of the road with flames coming out of the rear wheel, got it somewhat under control before the fire department showed up. Apparently they didn't do a very good job with the wheel seals and it basically started a nice fire that was being fed by a decent flow of petroleum product...

Luckily the tires didn't catch on fire. Unfortunately this means I am using my Dad's truck and that means I don't have a winch. I had based most of my lifting on using that, won't be the end of the world, but will definitely take more time, time that I don't have and time that is slipping away pretty fast. Going to have about 5 hours ******* in this eff up and it wasn't even my fault. Guess I should have just run the truck without the sticker, it would have held up better!

And sadly I did not get any action shots, camera was pretty farm from my thoughts. :(

Yup, those five hours sure would have been nice. Just got back to the Hill with Dad’s truck, going to take a nap here, then meet up with everyone around 5:30.

Definitely wasn’t sleeping.

Just got back to the Hill, will be dealing with the unloading as the week progresses. The guy is allowing me to go back on Wednesday to pickup a few final things, so I left the Hyster there. Everything was not as agreed, there was stuff in the way that we couldn’t move and stuff that was very expensive that we had to work around. The bridge took several hours to remove, should have been maybe two hours start to finish. Was just overall frustrating, I understand when things don’t go right, but it ***** when so much was just plain out of my hands. A lot of my prep work didn’t really help any, other things helped tremendously.

I can imagine it was very frustrating when things aren't what had been agreed. Only right he will let you go back and finish removing the crane. What do you still need to pick up on Wednesday Strouty?

I am going to try and get a couple more beams, some rail and more brackets that hold the rail. Then I have to get the forklift too. I don’t want to take Dad’s truck again, it has some suspension issues, can’t hardly keep it in a lane after 50 MPH. Was a bit of a white knuckle ride at times.

I am back at the Hill, Dad's truck has been returned, I am headed to the Salvage Garage now to unload my Brother's trailer and get that back to him. After that, I am going home for some R&R, I can deal with stress, but this has been a pretty stressful last week or so with plenty of long days/nights.

Now I have to deal with the aftermath of quickly unloading my Brother's trailer. Need to get everything off the Muv-All too, just not sure where I am putting things. First I have to fix the yard donkey, so I have a way to move the trailers around, Perk is not done yet, so I am kind of stuck, picked up a couple new valves, hopefully that will solve the issues.

I am definitely still exhausted, so I have been dragging a bit...

I think I meant dragging a lot, not a bit. Removed all the chains except the last two holding the bridge to the trailer, would probably be fine, but I didn't want to take any chances at all. I think I am going to remove the motors and wheels while it is easy to get to, then probably the couple control boxes and the three phase power rails, I know it is going to sit outside for at least a year and I do not want those components to deteriorate at all. The rest will probably get sandblasted and painted before I reinstall things anyways. The best part about doing this prep work is that it can sit on timbers instead of a trailer. I just need to make a hole for it, should nest pretty nice and the manual bridge can be on top of the bigger one.
