Secondly, did you really say GOUT???

Yep, unfortunately - I wouldn't wish this stuff on anyone. -

Think smashed thumb throbbing... where they drill s hole in your thumbnail to relive the pressure... and DON'T bang the affected toe(s) into anything (like I did yesterday - twice...)

Oops I just said in another thread that I thought that one would be hard to stamp in to steel like hatchets. Shows what I know.

I've seen other similar hatchets and axes posted but I think this is my first.

That's actually a piece off of a trammel set put a pointy stick under the thumb screw, clamp to a long piece of wood and away you go. If you don't ever find the second piece you can always just put a nail in the other end of the stick.

An older version of this
You know, I have several sets for that, but none quite like this one, but I think you are right. Often made for yard sticks.

Now I'm not so sure: I got a common 16p nail and it won't hold tight in the main groove. So if for that it needs a "made for" point. it also has smaller nock grooves for 45 deg and 90 deg holds, which is why I was thinking mic clamp. Holds that nail fine there...

Had the day off and despite my better judgement decided to go to a pro run sale that was heavily advertised and stuffed to the gills with vintage collectibles...toys, jewelry, you name it. Saw a big tool box in one pic and decided I'd try and run by after the initial frenzy had died down.

It was a madhouse, by the time I finally got in they were on page 12 of the list:ROFLMAO: plus I saw some of the regular tool guys and figured for sure the box would be picked clean. Was pleasantly surprised to find a bunch of stuff and filled one of the provided plastic grocery baskets with about 30 pounds of ****.

They had the prices listed at $2 per tool and I was bracing for the worst at checkout. As I was waiting in line I tried to get a gal working the sale to price it for me so I didn't hold up the line and after some very rudimentary pawing through the basket she just said "we'll do a price on the lot, I'm not counting all that"

After about 1/2 hour of waiting in line I got up to the front and waited for them to hit me with a crazy number, but nope! The cashier says "How bout $25?" One of the guys working the sale was standing nearby and I'd heard him arguing tool prices with another customer earlier, thought for sure he was going to dime me out! He just says "Wow..." and off I went:rocker:

With out further ado, here's the whole thing:

IMG_7753.jpg

The old hubs are for a Chevy squarebody I think, don't know why I bought these other than that they were cheap! Drivers are Snap on and Mac, the swivel socket set is foreign junk but someone will want it I think. The Bonney tappets are my favorite, they still have the stickers on a couple of them!
IMG_7754.jpg

Craftsman drill index is 100% complete, a few Proto bits and some randoms. The little metric hex sockets are Challenger.
IMG_7755.jpg

Large pile of USA Craftsman stuff, I've pretty much sold through all my drive tools so it's nice to restock!
IMG_7756.jpg
Wow, you ****. Looks like a nice Starrett Automatic Center Punch amongst the goodies. Great haul.

Returned to a couple of the pro run sales for discount day. The first on yielded a few decent tools including a nice Erie pipe wrench, some Craftsman, some Stanley, Cartwright and Wiss snips, Nicholson slip joints, and a Clark Expansive bit in the original box. $10.
IMG_9883.jpeg
IMG_9884.jpeg

The second yielded no tools, but I did find these well-used LL Bean boots for $4. These will be fun to restore and are my standard wear in the wet upstate NY spring and fall.

Gout is the worst! I’ve had it a few times and the flares lasted months. Worst pain ever.

You might want to look into allipurinol, you have to take it daily but I haven’t even had a “touch of gout” since I went on it…

Wow, I really thought gout was an old-school disease, eradicated before I was born.

But, my brain is wired to pop culture, so when I read "gout" I immediately thought of Adam Sandler's song...

Yesterday and today is the local-ish 100 mile yardsale. An old friend and I made a long morning of it, knocking off for lunch about 130. He found an ammo can and a GI wool blanket. Same seller had a WW2 GI blanket, but not in condition I was willing to pay for.

WW2 Tools
Heller 1lb ball pein will need some TLC
BHM ISN 28S DOE
Barcalo ISN 731A DOE
Blue Point G code (1945) DBE, for a GMTK

Unmarked scraper

Assorted Stuff
Modern demo pliers
Svea 123 carcass: a parts pickup; it'll either need some from the auction site, or be a donor.
G-P combo square.
6" Crescent adjustable - need to do some digging if it's the right production era for WW2.
I'm curious about the project on the little 4" square; no known/expected military connection.
A Bridge Too Far and The Great Escape DVDs; gotta love 2/$1 pricing on classics!

It's not and it's not a "disease" you catch, but a condition. Genetically disposed too. Mom had it real bad. More common the older you get.

Svea 123 carcass: a parts pickup; it'll either need some from the auction site, or be a donor.

Probably further ahead as parts, a lot missing - burner head, wind screen and pot stands. plus case/cook pot. At least the valve key is there.

Excellent hauls guys.

Outlaw gets a YOU ****! oN the Snap-On $1 ratchet. Nice Craftsman hatchet too!

Bmw- nice pickup on the Craftsman box of oldies. I was hoping you went back for it so we could see what was in there. Some good Walden finds there!

Lugz- that table of heavy tools looks too enticing. How much were the Martins? No don't tell me!

Gout is a buildup of acid crystals in the joints. It is a form of arthritis. Millions of people still get it. Most can find a diet that reduces their flare ups.

I have a friend who has it, and he knows what foods will cause him a flare up.

I’ve been looking for a better meter for shop use. I don’t do a lot of electronic work, so I don’t need super high quality. Most of my multimeter needs are simple 12v stuff.

I found this SnapOn meter at the pawn shop honey hole. I love the horizontal form factor, and the huge display will be amazing for what I do.

I carried it home for a hundred bucks. Not a smokin’ deal, but more than fair, and a sizable step up from the ancient Craftsman CEM rat I’ve had since the early 2000sIMG_0539.jpeg

Stopped by the last day of a 2 day sale, was 3rd in line. Everything was 25 % off and got all this stuff for 17 bucks. Almost threw the tools in this Craftsman box but I don’t think it was 25 bucks brand new! They were not in a bargaining mood so I left it.

MrsLS & I set up at Jake’s Flea this morning under Venus and a waning crescent moon to sell some more of son-in-law’s discard pile of graphic novels, toy cars, decor. I found a few opportunities to slip away and had mixed results netting bargains.
IMG_5663.jpeg
BEST DEAL was the 3” LSStarrett Co vise - $15. Sometimes people just don’t know what they have. Guy also had a split-tail Parker welded onto a trailer hitch mount and a big Asian import as well, which I think he valued the most.
Small Bonney and Goodell Pratt table vises - $15. Sometimes they do know what they have. Frankly, this was a mistake on my part. I saw two other Bonney vises toward the end of my money that I liked better.
Bonney 3/8dr ratchet. My brain refused to read my phone notes correctly, so now for $10 I have a fourth T702K for no good reason.
PS&W 5” Steel Screw C-clamp for $4. Wahoo! Only had a 5” iron screw previously.
Big and very big long-reach landing nets (without tears in the netting) - $2 and $5. A replacement net (if you can find one) is 5-10x that. Now my fishing buddy can stop complaining that we don’t have one, and start complaining that it takes up too much room in the boat.
Shakespeare Alpha 5’ spinning rod with Daiwa reel - $4. (I said yesterday how much I like these rods - I feel like a teen again when I’m using one.)
Three small hammer handles $1ea. His signage said $3ea, but I helped Bob attach a third umbrella (which he said he got at auction for $5 - they retail at $35-45) to his outdoor tables. I would not have paid $3, but I don’t
mind helping Bob out when he needs it.
Box joint linemans pliers - $1. Probably German, by the shape of the cutters. We’ll see. (EDIT - can’t find a mfr stamp amid the pitting, but they are identical to a clearly-marked PS&W linesman.)
1954 Craftsman Jointer Shaper and Thickness Planer handbook - $1.
The VHS (which will resolve two disputes if it plays), dictionary, book, binders and sweatshirt were appropriated from our own hoard, but may be sold tomorrow, as we are going back for the bigger Sunday crowd.

Well, after I posted that, I remembered the laser disk version is the closest to the original theatrical release. The cover art on this VHS had me fooled - it’s from 1990.
So Han does shoot first (dispute2), plus bonus: no Jurassic Park fugitives stomping around the lightly-travelled streets of Mos Eisley. But I have a lingering Mandella Effect impression that Obi Wan should smoke a pipe in his hermit cave (dispute1). Actually, no one here is disputing it - MrsLS semi-agrees with me.

I’m currently in New Hampshire for job training but even though I’m 2,800 miles from my house, I’m a tool addict and therefore couldn’t resist getting some flea markets and yard sales in on the weekends.

About an hour and 15 minutes before writing this post, I was where all the greatest online deals are found: on the commode. A sale popped up on Facebook (listed four hours prior) that just said “Tools”, with an address and ending time. It was about 25 minutes away. One item in the pictures caught my eye, and I mean REALLY caught my eye.

I hurried myself along and a few minutes later, I was on the road. 25 minutes later, I pulled up to the address and saw my prize, a Wilton Chicago baby bullet vise still sitting there untouched. I asked for a price and the seller said “10”. I paid the man and placed it into my rental car as soon as I could.

Here it is!IMG_2811.jpeg
This was after taking it off the small red wood bench it was screwed down to. I was so excited after I saw the picture in the listing that I didn’t even notice that it had the swivel base and the raised anvil as well. No date stamp, but it is certainly an early example based on the sticker remnants. I’m a happy camper today!

No pics, nor did I buy anything, but I stopped into the Restore in Worcester after my younger son's baseball games today. I didn't get to see the games, unfortunately, as the second one finished while I was 5 minutes away, so I stopped in at the Restore since I was in the area...

Anyway, the only thing of interest were some very old looking DOE wrenches. Most had no markings, a couple had single letters or numbers. One said VLCHECK.

I figured none of these had value, as I had to wait for a guy ahead of me to finish going through all of the bins, picking up one tool at a time, and looking it up on eBay (or something on his phone).

I took a quick spin around the place while he finished with the wrenches (and moved over to the hammer bins in the next aisle). Had he not finished in the wrench section when he did, I was just going to leave.

Tool sale a good 40 minute drive away. Unfortunately it was day 2 of the sale and the seller of course had to give me a rundown of all the tools he sold the day before. Despite this I still got some good stuff and even left a few good things behind.

The first thing I found was a tub of sockets marked 25 cents a piece. I spent way too much time making a pile until finally the seller came by and offers the entire tub for $5. Considering I had just found a couple Snap On sockets and a small pile of SK that was a screaming deal. Some of it is plain worn out or actual junk (broken Taiwan sockets that were welded back together). Overall a nice grouping of some good useable tools including SK, Snap On, New Britain, Williams, Craftsman, Blackhawk, Penncraft, Easco, and others. Most of the remainder of the common Japan/Taiwan will go to the donate pile.

IMG_1858.jpeg

IMG_1855.jpeg

IMG_1856.jpeg

The rest of the tools I bought at the sale. Including the sockets I spent a total of $17.

Pretty slow here. A flea and one sale a couple of dead TOOs. Going back out for three late posters shortly.

cets 50 for the BMW-Heyco DBE, $5 for the optical comparater (has a scale lense with fine metric and inch readings small circles, and angles), cents 50 for the Blue LED key chain light. I like these on those retractable badge holders for a quick handy light on my camp gear and suspenders., day packs etc..

The latch with a working key no less! was in a free pile at the Flea. This may help me with two incomplete latch assemblies!

I saw A New Hope in the theater both times it was released and agree with the AI.

Also, Han always shoots first.

Another late posted Estate sale and 2 yard sales. not a lot:

Pentel 0.5 HB refils and 2 eraser sticks (this type ois great); A whupped Knife, with I believe thin horn scales -Timm's is much nicer! - I started cleanup and most of the glue and rust razor bladed off; Fiskars Scissors, 2 Nicholson files, vintage 3 in 1 oil, and a second "lifetime supply" of single edge razor blades I've outlived most of my first pack of 100 - and already used one as above! That old supply lasted several decades; there is probably another 75 here; Plus I got the purple kids chair in the second pic, I thought it was another of the folding cloth tables, but nope! So that got a good laugh until my youngest sat in it and claimed it for her travels. at 30 (in a few days) she is a petite 5'3", and barely 100 lbs and its actually a fair fit other than her knees are a bit high.: $10 all

From the two yard sales: an abrasive wheel, and a RICHA "F" bar clap. $1 each

I was out and about and did ok.

Estate sale - Homelite Hat, Machine Shop book, Small Screwdrivers, Starrett square and protractor, and a can of cutting oil not pictured. $4.65
IMG_0252.jpeg

The real reason I was out and about: drove an hour to meet a guy from a Facebook group who was coming from 4 or 5 hours away to visit family. $30

IMG_0255.jpeg

Then I stopped at a store attached to an auction house/estate sale company.
True Temper Flint Edge 12012, A not real Auto Meter sign (home made sign), and an Ampco AlBr H2. $15 total, the Ampco was only $3.

Here are today's finds:

I don't recall if I posted this knife yet:

54605010779_e0daa9e063_o.jpg

$15.

I cleaned it up on the buffing wheel:

54605330135_0e714ac916_o.jpg

It's a Marttiini Lynx 121 puukko, a tradition Finish do-all knife. It's the first model of knife Marttiini made back in '28, and they still make 'em today--but they're different from mine. I sent an e-mail to Marttiini to see if they can date it.

I also got some stuff for shop use:

54605004176_ed5d5defe8_o.jpg

I've been wanting to give one of these pressure-sprayers a try. I need to look up the instruction--it has two tips. My guess is that one is spray and one stream?

Looks like a good project, but that's a great deal!

That's a USUCK deal!

That grip looks like it would be a comfortable working knife. I'd have to handle one to tell thou. For Finnish steel, that's a Usuck price!

Its solid, just paint flaking and surface rust. Around here people want $200+ for JUST a frame in this shape.

Back story: Someone made a post complaining about lowballers in the FB group, and I commented that I was tired of people thinking their rusted junk was gold. A guy with the same first name as me (not common spelling) messaged me after seeing it, and we set this meeting a couple weeks ago.
Since then, I traded a welder for a basically identical mini bike with a few more pieces, but no engine.
Still went to pick this one up for the price. I have a few engines sitting around.

Most modern Americans would find this grip far too short. It's 3 1/2" from the base of the blade to the beginning of the pommel, with no guard or ricasso--very easy to have your finger slip onto the SHARP Skandi grind.

It fits me OK, but I'm no modern American.

54605391303_4a7d1f35e0_o.jpg

I wear a size 8 1/2 glove--and my hand is disgustingly clean.
