The bearing on the A/C pulley on my Jeep TJ was starting to sound like a bag of hammers in a dryer. This was a tough project with little room for hands/tools, sharp pointy bits cutting up arms and it's sweltering hot here. Had to step away a few times and ask from some opinions from friends because I was struggling with the recessed location of the spring clip.

Now that it's done I'm so satisfied. This is the feeling that makes me keep taking jobs and projects like this on - in the moment it can feel overwhelming and be exhausting etc. But when it is done, there is not many better feelings!

struggling with getting the clip off?

Don't you love the triumphant moment that you finally get it off, then you realize...

Oh ****, I have to get it back on at some point.

🤣

But congrats you did it!

Yes getting the clip off was brutal. I couldn't see could barely get the tool in and operate it. Once I got clip semi unseated I was able to get a pick in there and pry it the rest of the way off.

Putting the new one on proved to be a PIA until a friend suggested putting tape on the tips of the snap ring pliers to keep the snap ring on the very tips. That worked really well and I got it on fairly quickly, only 5-10 attempts!

I hate working with anything that has springs. Like brake drums. Brake drums **** also.

I love that. But I hate the moment after when you hear the distant “ping” of the damned thing ricochetting of some far corner of the garage.

Fell off thread for 4 days, I blame distraction by Gout...

Maybe test for lead paint?

I got it! that time :see:

I smashed my left thumbnial so bad once that it was busted near in half, and a tiny bit connected on the outside edge wasn't going to allow it to grow out properly with the tip section still stuck to my thumb.

Foreseeing weird surgery in my future, I got my GF's fingernail repair kit and glued and splinted the two busted sections together. She (GF) thought I was nuts, The company doctor asked me to let her know how it worked...

It worked perfect! I had to touch up the splint a couple of times, but everything grew out normal.
I broke the nail just under the skin once.(chainsaw accident) I didn't understand why it hurt so bad till a few weeks later it grew out already broken. The bad part was I was doing physical therapy and had to bend that last joint.:shocking:

Dropped these dog turds on this galvanized pipe, it's all skill getting a chunky consistency like that with working welding gas

Fun fact metal shovel handels conduct heat WAAYYY better than wood handels
And the galvanised pipe makes a sweet smelling toxic gas, great for the central nevous system.:badteeth:

Still trying to get signed up for SS. I got as far as giving them my phone # a second time, and now they can't "match me to this number". The site wants me to enter another number I've been using for years--this is the only # I have and have had for the last ten years!

The site says I can use my work # if my personal doesn't work. That didn't work either--and I've been using the same work # for almost 30 years!

Grrr... I guess I get to pend the entire afternoon waiting on hold....

Browser doesn't seem to be the problem. I think. I wonder if the company firewall has something to do with it? Strange thing is, when I created my log-in, it had no problem using the same phone # for verification.

I mean, they even had me take pics of my DL and face using the phone--which they don't think is mine--and that went just fine.

I wonder if my phone provider, Mint, has anything to do with it?

I hate US Gov websites. I used to have to deal with them far too often when I was contracting and they drove me to drink.

I'm now waiting for a call-back to a number that doesn't belong to me....

I marvel at just how much cardboard we turn in each week. I am starting my own No Amazon July to see how it even feels to not order anything for a month. I have always wanted to try to shop more locally, but it seems the stores never have what I am looking for. Wish me luck! 🥴
Cardboard is my primary heat in the fall and spring.

I was rooting around in one of my lockers at work today looking for something else when I found an old tool roll. I vaugely recall buying it at a garage sale, maybe a decade ago.

Here's what's in it:

54609706963_db65afeb14_o.jpg

54608620992_c1261e9955_o.jpg

Full set of Craftsman DL offset, metal handle wood chisels, Lakeside, Greenlee and Northern King sockets.

So now I know what I'm doing in the shop for the rest of the afternoon and evening--and likely a few more:

It's going to take a few beers.

I wonder what the hell I was looking for....

Building a Argon back purging setup so that I can build the exhaust on the 85GT

We use painter's masking tape over the ends of the pipes when doing sanitary welds. It allows one to easily control the pressure and flow by poking holes in the tape with the tungsten. With the thin-wall sanitary tubing, you need to get the pressure just right so the weld stays level with the surface--not sunken and not puffed out.

With some help I got my 12” Table Saw onto my Hydraulic Lift Table and was able to locate one of the two places that my new bracket was being kept from fitting. I ground out reliefs in the bracket, I now have a third place to mark out and grind.

I found that my Cable Come Along had been put away with the cable jammed on the spool, got that sorted out.

Dropped a piece of steel on my foot but my “Safety Sandals” kept me from injury.

Every project I start always shows me some of my limitations, I try to learn from my mistakes and build my knowledge and experience.

Stopped because I feel myself getting tired and just a little bit frustrated. Will hold onto what progress I have made and will plan to continue tomorrow.

Is it just my eyes or does the chisel on the right in the second photo say CRAFTSMON rather than CRAFTSMAN?

12" is a very substantial table saw!

It's 1000 degrees out, and my wife is worried that the power will go out. She wanted me to check the portable generator to make sure it will run. Well, over the winter I tried so start it, and it wouldn't start and the carb just dumped gas out. So I didn't have high hopes. I went to look at it today, and it started on the 2nd pull with no bs and no leaks. Ran just fine.

When I tried it in the winter it was like zero degrees out, so I wonder if something was frozen in the carb. Oh well, it runs now, thank goodness.

Dump that fuel, and get fresh gas, as a dash of gas line antifreeze.

I got the A/C functioning in my project car only to find out that it works intermittently. It seemed to work less on hotter days, so I pulled the climate control to investigate. It looks like the solder joints failed on the PCB.

LX_PCB_pins1.jpg

LX_PCB_pins2.jpg

The switch that selects the fan speed setting also burned up, which explains why the highest fan speed setting never worked.

LX_fanSwitch_internals.jpg

I re-soldered all of the bad solder joints, and swapped the fan speed switch from my parts car.

Now I'm just waiting for new bulbs from the dealership to fix the backlighting. Then I can button it all up and get the car back on the road.

I would try to avoid fixing something that works.

When fuel pours out of the carb, its generally a stuck bowl float. Sometimes a gentle tap on the side of the carburetor bowl will do the trick. Glad it's working for you now.
