So I got a used DW733 planer from the Habitat store for $120. Took it home and once I ran a board through it I swear you could hear it a mile away, friggin loud and I didn't have any hearing protection on at the time.

I also have the newer DW735 but burned out the motor on that so it sits in a box. I dont remember the DW735 being as loud as the DW733.

Problem is my shed is backed up to 3 houses and I dont want to be a noise nuisance every time I want to use it, I got good neighbors.

Not really wanting to spend a few hundred dollars for a spiral cutter head.

Is that a good price to keep it for or should I spend the cash on a replacement motor for the DW735?

Thanks, I have 7 days to return it.

It’s not like there is any quite planers/jointers but lunch box planers have always been the noisiest in all brands.

A 735 is a better planer. You can even upgrade it
To a Shelix but just like the lunch box planers it’s never going to be very durable with its universal motor.

Just the machine running by itself is noisy as hell, don’t even need to be cutting. Taking too deep a cut, or dull blades, can make it noisier. after the first power up, I’ve never run mine without hearing protection. Adding a dust collector can mask it a bit, but it’s still there.

I think that's the planer I have it has always been very noisy. We just used it this past week to plane down some home milled cedar 2xs for a deck project. Had it running for better part of three days in my buddy's driveway and produced about six bags of cedar shavings. My buddy apologized for the noise to multiple neighbors several times none of them said it was any problem at all. I think the noise is worse when you're running the machine than even a little bit away. I was building the deck while my buddy was planing for the most part. It was just background noise really. As a side benefit the neighborhood smelled great!

Yesterday I did a neighbor in his backyard test with my shed doors closed, he said it was fine.

Like another member replied, it's annoyingly loud!
