Intriguing find there Lugz! Even got a wonderfully versatile old Superslim spanner, customised on one of the jaws to include imperial and metric sizes.. What's the 2 little hex drive socket sets, with the over-torque'd drive key?

The hex key of the rear set has a pretty good spiral going on the short leg. Perhaps related to the broken socket in the set?

Gift for the missus. She is going to love it. It's a paperback novel (c) 1970! Apparently there's a whole series of them. I had no idea they even existed. She was a huge fan, especially of David Cassidy.

Handle Lock, which is who New Britain eventually bought out for the holder, and Duro. I will be posting on those threads.

Without further delay or ado..., here is that Marvel Carbureter Company small parts cabinet.

A little angle for shape. The dimensions are 12" D x 11" W x 7" H.

More of a frontal shot. It's a lovely deep classic OD green. If you compare to the first pic I posted in the back of the Jeep with the other stuff, you'll see that the PO had the drawers sitting inside the lids. (That didn't help with the mess. More on that in a minute.) I have corrected that. The lid for the middle one on the right is missing. You can see that someone, perhaps the original PO if I had to guess, scrawled "MARVEL" and "CARBURETOR" (despite that not being how Marvel spelled it...) on the face of the top left and right drawers.



I'm not sure why. It has a decal on the bottom with its very early logo including its very early slogan - "Its Name Defines It".

Yeah. They should help keep things more orderly now that they're actually serving as lids instead of sliding trays!

I'm sure everyone knows this was one of if not the first, and that it's also the same Marvel as the Marvel Mystery Oil. But I have to admit I did not know that Marvel-Scherber was still in business - making aircraft carbs, and I did not know all the history.

I had a dickens of a time getting the drawers open. I am guessing the cabinet was tipped over on its side, maybe even upside down at some point, and the contents - especially the crude nails, lots and lots of crude nails, and some other odd-shaped parts, were jamming them up right good - all because the PO did not have the lids on the drawers! I was laughing to myself looking at the container of vintage back pain pills in one of the little cubbies, because by the time I had them all freed up - a process of tilting, shaking, pulling, prying and twisting, including some long reach and angle needle nose pliers, I needed a few.

If there's anything I hate more than organizing a small parts cabinet - it's organizing someone else's small parts cabinet!

Believe it or not, there really weren't too many old carb parts. You will see gaskets, nuts, springs, throttle valves, needle assemblies, nozzles and the like, but if the cabinet could talk, it would say someone was doing some upholstery work, some glazing, and lots of riveting later on. I have not done any research on all the part numbers on the paper tabs, but I am pretty sure they're going to come up early Marvel.

As usual with old small parts cabinets, you never quite know what you're going to find, and there were some interesting, bizarre tidbits in here that you will likely have fun spotting and I will post more photos of those in subsequent posts.

You have my sympathies, I just went through about 10 of 12 Equipto style 3X5 card file drawers 12" long each, doing the same for junk I "inherited" with the drawer set. All so I could re-purpose the drawers. some left the building, some augmented my "hardware store" so forced me yo clean up a little of my own organization that has gotten sloppy...

Pretty sure it's a General Fireproofing Co that's one of their "super filer" models based on a patent number on the drawer slides and subsequent searches which found very similar pictures. Unfortunately the original tag is gone as someone bolted up a piece of angle iron in that area for likely a drawer locking rod. You can see the outline of where a tag used to be.

Back to the cabinet after adding pics to other post. This is a heavy beast even when empty. Full extension drawers. The patent on the slides relates to adding springs on either end of travel to cushion from hard slamming. When fully open can lift the two trays up and out of cabinet and carry where ever you want. Maybe a 1940s into early 1950s vintage.

Drawers are interchangeable. The slide frame/tray which holds them makes you pull left and right open at same time but you can lift each out independently. The tray does not have to be open to slide them back in and a little spring latch clicks them in place. When lifting out, you get the front raised about 4-5 inches and it clears the spring latch in back without having to release it

Rocks: nice cabinet!! Is that clamp holder on the side yours or the previous owner’s cause even though it takes up a ton of space I’ve never seen one.

Came with the cabinet. It's a Fastenal magnetic holder of some sort so move it where you want. I will probably move to some other surface at some point when I want to jam something else in that space next to my cabinet. But my wood stove is close by so have to keep that in mind and this works for now

I missed that first time around. I need to make one like that. (Unlikely to find one) I have 2 3X5 card drawers full of those, not to mention muffler clamps. But need a home for such a rack first.

Picked up this nice and crusty crown logo roller today from Market place for $40. The drawers are in great shape little to no rust inside just surface stuff on the exterior. The rails are very smooth as well. The bottom lid is a little sticky but just needs cleaning. Very happy with it! I’m just going to clean and scrape all the loose **** off then clear it. Leave it rustic.

I picked up a similar crusty Craftsman bottom roller this past weekend
It'll be cleaned up and left as is

Lugz, when sorting screws, note that Marvel used fillister head screws almost exclusively.

Those hex brass pieces with threads on one end may be for working on carburetors. Screw them into the parting line threaded holes and you can set it on the bench without protruding parts hitting the bench top.

Very nice.

I've got a Steelcase card cabinet I picked up a while back and use it for stuff. Lotsa drawers, about 5 1/2 feet tall.

What blows me away is how nice some older office equipment is, there's really nothing new that's that good. **************** has overtaken everything.

Next up is cleaning up my free new vintage Steelcase barrister book case.

Yes looks very close. The knobs used to unlatch the tray to open are different but still like twins

Any numbers or stamping on the sides of the slides? Or a good pic to compare.

I found pics of a cabinet with a General Fireproofing tag that matched mine to a T but a couple less layers of drawers. The General Fireproofing tag is rectangular unlike the curves on the Art Metal and mine shows the similar rectangular outline hidden under that angle iron.
