After seeing Lugs post about a no turn handle, I went back to the sale and grabbed this one, no markings. The bit says Goodell-Pratt but I don't think it actually belogs with this driver. There is no notch for the spring loaded holder to fit into when the bit is inserted.IMG_0343.JPGIMG_0344.JPGIMG_0345.JPG

Nice find. I've got one just like it!

Found it a few years back. Many more photos, other examples (@LesserSon has one, British, marked HARGREAVES or HY GREAVES?), and an ensuing conversation about the similarity of the mechanism to brace bits, as I recall, starting here on this thread.

I finally found a fair condition Perfect handle!

I have no idea why these seem to be so rare around here, but they do. This is only the second I've ever found locally, and the other is pretty much trash.

Before cleaning:

54665896178_a9fe73b609_o.jpg

Gotta remember to take some better "before" pics.... The handle is bent in at least two planes and the tip is completely round.

After:

54666247194_2c11de3827_o.jpg

I straightened the shaft best I could using a vise and armstrong pressure, then reshaped the tip to fit some large screws I had sitting on the bench.

I can't find any kind of mark on it. If it was ink-stamped, there's no way that survived.

A couple of recent finds:

1) early Stanley Sweetheart 16” No. 270 with original red hardwood handle. Any idea what the initials “NAGC” (I think) on the handle stand for?

2) Millers Falls No. 55 ratcheting screwdriver.

Been away for a while, happy to be back.

Question: Anyone know who made this Stubby 1/4 inch spinner? It's driving me up a wall.

Also, not to just ask for input, Here's my user set of Perfect Handles. Three are Tobrin, and one is a tiny German guy. Wood handle screwdrivers take up a great deal of my restoration time.

If I hadn't just sold them, I'd get good pictures of the two matching Cased Colt pistol screwdrivers (circa 1850) that I had.

This is the first one I’ve ever seen like this. The ends are interchangeable from a slot screwdriver to the three different robertson screwdriver sizes. Era 1930-1940.
P.L. Robertson Mfg Co. limited, Milton, Ontario.
Taken from the side of the screwdriver stamping…

That is a cool find!

I'm generally familiar with Robertson, of course, his 1910 cruciform screw design, and the whole Fisher/Ford fiasco story, with respect to switching to Phillips etc, and Robertson cruciform type screws and drivers still being very popular in Canada, but I wasn't aware he had a mfg company in his name in Milton, Ontario, or this later patent.

This is what 4.c has in the A-Z Mfgrs List...
Robertson / Robertson Inc., 1185 Corporate Drive, Unit 1, Burlington, Ontario, Canada L7L 5V5 / https://www.robertsonscrew.com/ / "Robertson" "Scrulox" screw / patent CA 116463 Feb 2 1909 Paul Lynburner Robertson /

(You saw that you don't have this company name or address in your list, right?)
Yes. fixed it for now, but.... where is the patent?
I'm going to shoot this in to Jeff - odds are Robertson also applied for (or was granted) a Canadian patent as well (if that "1930" date refers to a U.S. patent.)

Really curious as to exactly what they are calling it on the patent document.

for now:

Robertson / P.L. Robertson Mfg. Co. Ltd., 97 Bronte St., Milton, Ontario, Canada / "Combination Socket and Slot Screwdriver" / patent 1930 /

found this tidbit in the rabbit hole:
" Although a square-socket drive had been conceived decades before (having been patented in 1875 by one Allan Cummings of New York City, U.S. Patent 161,390), it had never been developed into a commercial success because the design was difficult to manufacture."
from: https://vinty.ca/brand/robertson/?srsltid=AfmBOor-XOssxwceweoz42w8i_h9UiSu2z-ZfVheJXachZqKQ6VlY-ui <-- there are several examples of Robertson screwdrivers shown here, but none of the images are offering much information other than there having been a Candian patent issued in 1933.

Jeff has obviously already visited this rabbit hole.

Hey, I’m the rookie here… I didn’t realize that I’m supposed to know how to do everything. Heck, I was lucky enough to stumble onto and acquire this tool… but I’m still learning.

You're fine.
I was actually addressing @Private Lugnutz, and hoping that @RTM might see this. Since posting that, I've read through at least a dozen sites, but none of them make any mention of any patents other than the 1909 and 1910 patents on the screw itself.

^ I shot all that up to Jeff last night. Hopefully he can figure out patent date/number on the 1930 and 1933 patents.

photos lifted from one of the sites I was reading last night:

I did a quick search of this thread and didn't find any Master CR - Likely Master Craft screwdrivers by Wilde of KC MO. This one's stampings are very light but with a little black tint and some magnification show ok. Checking Wilde on AA shows several pairs of pliers and mentions they made tools for Wards, Sears, and a few other large retailers. A couple pics. Ed.

I can’t figure this one out. A couple months ago, I picked up this wood handled 10 1/2" slotted screwdriver with holding sleeve (only marking is a “PAT PENDING”). The wood handle is five-sided and has a comfortable grip pattern (see photos). I have tried Google Lens and AI, but have not figured out the patent or patent-holder. Any ideas?

I am a long time fan of Winchesters other products. I thought this was cool.
Nice one! And you're in good company here, Nitro. There are a few other screwdrivers on this thread as well as on the Winchester thread, along with other types of tools, and several admirers, including mine, although I have recently sold my collection.

Finally got a chance to go through some of my wood handle screwdrivers that have been piling up. Mainly just to get rid of all the Mac ones. Which have a surprising amount of variance in the markings. Found some cool ones in the mix too plus these Apex clutch and ones
