oops. Deleted duplicate.

And edited previous post.

Here’s the sub panel.

this subpanel is a major hazard

get rid of this panel and get a new one

uninsulated neutral cloth wrapped SEU needs to go

the top 20a breaker has #14... the bottom 30a has #12.... not kosher...

then theres that hack job of neutral splices with a split bolt....

no way was the guy that did this a chief electrical inspector.... way too many issues here...

is this subpanel on a detached building?

Got it. Thanks.

I don’t see any red stripe on either black cable.

I’m guessing if I pull a permit, I’m opening up a whole can of worms with a city inspection. As in the possibility of having to rewire the entire house.

Am I thinking correctly?

Is there an opportunity to pull split phase from one of those spares in the subpanel?

Or just abandon ship? Pretty sure I can sell this microwave/convection oven and I picked up a Restore for a profit.

that wire is way too large for that GFCI.... its another SER feeder. im guessing someone "trimmed" the strands to make it fit.... this needs to be fixed as well...

I’m pretty sure the top wire is 12 AWG. But I’ll double check. The guy who replaced this panel said he had to replace the previous panel because it was dangerous. All of this used to be feeding a pool and hot tub and pool heater. All that stuff is gone.

Edit to add – it’s on the same building.

I’m just going to cap the wires and put a cover plate back on it. Maybe pull it back up into the attic and put in a junction box and stick it in there.
