Sunday flea today.

Told the wife I sweated all over everyone’s tool tables. She asked if it lessened the value or increased the value. I told her it will increase the value by adding patina. :ROFLMAO:

It was hot today. So sunny. Beyond sunburn. More like deadly if you aren’t careful hot. So sunny that for the first time my bald Haitian buddy was wearing a hat UNDER the tent. I had to laugh about that. I got there before noon and the tools were burning. Burned my hand quite a few times but still had fun digging.

-ratchets are Craftsman rhft, Thorsen, Armstrong female rat with original plug!, Husky rotator, 2 S-K 1/4” (one good one bad)
-unknown wood stubby driver, Snap-On mini pink driver
-unbranded jar opener. I like this style.
-wrenches are Barcalo, Proto, S-K
-Husky extension
-Sockets are Craftsman C-series and 1/4, egg socket Elora, old Mac x2, magnetic Snap-On
-Interesting finds- Keen Cutter slip joint pliers, Bell System Utica pliers, Bell System Armstrong made General Machine Products? Wrench, Bernard Schollhorn Western Union Telegraph Linesman pliers.

break from unloading from camping, But do have some things to post later, both from the Coleman camping get together I was at, and a stop at a TOO YS and Antique store on thew way home today.

The classic Trusco blue tool box. Came from a guy who does specialty packaging for various companies and they shipped stuff in those tool boxes. Looks like Fuji Machinery. Got it for $1

The black box was at another stop. Grandpa's tool box. Full of stuff. $15.

Yeah, some suckage here!

All of this was $25 at a garage sale.

And here

Burned my hand quite a few times but still had fun digging.

Time to bring leather gloves on the real sunny days at fleas...

Solo run to Jake’s Flea this morning. $14 brought home a late Craftsman heritage chest (w attached underlid photo), Pullsaw blade, two small drill stands, Walden Worchester 1/4dr socket, three Bonney 1/4dr sockets, and a tree stand harness (which I intend to modify into a deer drag harness).
The chest was a garage flood survivor, still full of mud. However, it’s young enough to have removeable slides, so I should be able to access every crevice.

EDIT - all apart, cleaned, and reassembled - ready to sit on a bench.

Post Ocean Cove camping on the way home I stopped at a YS/mini flea - 3 sellers, next to an antique store. Got the tools from the TOO YS, for $15, and the Ronsonol, can from the antique store for $3

Roper Whitney Jr. No 5 appears to have al the punches and a spare set, in an aluminum case (never seen on in aluminum), with paperwork dated Sept 1,1959; A Bessy (Germany) clamp, a more modern pair of Plierench, a Chicago MFGs Dist Co. Speednut auto adjsuting wrench, and after the Ronsonol from the Store next f=door, it wasn't priced, so I asked if it was 29c as a joke, but the guy said no $5 then changed it to $3, which I was OK with.

-Plierrench-Chicago-MFGs-Dist-Co-Speednut-Ronsonol.jpg

Interesting that Alloy Artifacts says the Speednut is sort of related to the Plierenceh patents.

Here is my haul from a few stops at a citywide garage sale the next city north. We could not go yesterday due to other commitments, and it was a very heavy mist most of the day, so we expected most people to cancel. There were still a number open today, some said they opened yesterday, and it showed in damp merchandise today.

One repeat vendor had a nice curved drawknife, so I paid up a bit to get it. A different vendor whose mom normally ran things talked my ear off, but got a few decent items from him, including a second curved drawknife in rough shape. Not seen any in the wild in 20 plus years, and then two in one day, had to grab them both. Another sale was liquidating FIL shop contents, mostly hardware, and magazines. He used to build gas station stuff, so lots of wood, sheet metal, and machine screws, and a table full of damp PopMech, PopSci, and similar magazines. Most stops yielded something for me, or MLW, and only one had something for both.

The haul, L-R. Big box of IOB hardware, lots of vintage sizes, including 3,5,7 sized screws, SS, brass, and aluminum fasteners, blued steel screws, bare steel screws, some rivets. To the right is more stuff I gleaned from a second box of more common hardware. Also three empty boxes from number punches by Boker, Hoggson, and one too dirty to read. Across the front are two small tubing cutters, to Irwin PH type screwdrivers, one with a dinged tip, Stanley 42x sawset, the two drawknives, and a dead GFI 6’ cord, which the dead end has been removed, soon to be replaced with a regular plug. Hiding in the back right are some 4” and 6” paint rollers.

Any clue what the little clamp thing front center leaning on the right screwdriver is for?

PXL_20250817_232503536-X3.jpg

A more detailed view of the hardware labels. some of the boxes were damp, so I dumped them out inside to dry them off. One may need reglued later.

I'm not 100% sure of the nomenclature, but that's a tubing clamp. It's used in laboratory settings to clamp off flow through latex or similar tubing. Very useful for home brewing!

Thanks, was pretty sure a tubing clamp, but it needed to be very wimpy tubing for this to stop flow. Even my normal lab tubing would hold that clamp open.

Today was a "reclamation" day. Bought the 36" top and bottom with contents including "alternative" media hidden under the drawer liner and in the back of drawers(one was a kaleidescope thing with effectively a centerfold image when you looked in it), 3 side boxes, a 26" top and contents, and half a garage worth of tools for $1200 a few years ago on Dec 31-Jan 1(got everything unloaded around 3am)and my father missed out on the deal so to keep the peace I ended up splitting the lot and he REALLY wanted the top box.

Today I got the top box back, same as I left it except some added dust, for $300 because he needed a loan for his family vacation and decided to use it as partial payment. Not the best deal obviously but it's effectively what I paid for it and what he paid for it. Plus I ended up with around $2600 after keeping what I wanted out of the lot so it's basically just trimming the fat. Got it set up now in place of my 26" road box and now I need to figure out what to put in it and where to put the 26" box it replaced.
PXL_20250818_183723741.jpg
Anybody else have someone basically demand you sell them something because they NEEDED it just to sell it back to you later because they didn't need it? No hard feelings in this case, it's expected, but figured we've had some more off topic discussion here and it is kind of a sale so I might as well laugh about it and give a few folks a chance to vent similar scenarios.

2 stops over the weekend and today yielded these items. 2 mostly complete Xcelite nutdriver sets and today's find was a NOS Craftsman 20 piece Metric set.

Hit a mother lode on Saturday. Saw a CL add for free tools, lawn and garden, etc. no picture. Rolled the dice as it was less than 5 minutes from my house. First picture is everything in my truck bed. Next few are detailed pics.
Just a ton of Craftsman wrenches, sockets, socket wrenches, just too much to list.
Came across some brands that I have come to look for because of this board i.e. Bell telephone, Ford, Vlchek. The pictures don’t do the haul justice.
Oh and the Fleetwood drill press was thrown in.

Been after a nice set of older satin 216’s for a while now and scored these. Immaculate condition and right on the money….$45

You **** for all that free stuff!

Is there an actual drill press not shown, or are you referring to the drill press vise?

Stopped at a garage sale on my way home from work Thursday, that I saw online with what looked like a machinist chest under a table in the listing photos. Got the wood machinist chest for a decent price, haven't checked The Guide to ID the manufacturer yet, but it's not a Gerstner. Was owned by the grandfather of the gentleman, who worked for GE. I left most of the ephemera with the seller, for sentimental value. Sadly the measuring tools were pretty much gone by the time I arrived.

The fancy digital model!
It’s funny, what I really like is the feel. I’m a big guy and these fit me a bit better then others. I’m ok with a scale and had a set of similar Mitutoyos that I used while running a CNC Trumpf. Seems like these have a thicker frame and thimble??? Who knows.. I have a MF set that is lighter and that feels good too…Lol, I’m in deep…

Guessing a Gerstner 42 or 52 based on the drawers. The Art Leather is a gimme for Gerstner IMO. The guards behind the pulls will set your age, along with the lock style.

Estate sale haul from Sunday. Got a 14" Delta bandsaw, a delta tenoning jig, a porter cable dovetail jig , and a yuasa drill press ,all for $80. I've never heard of this Japanese brand and had no idea if this drill press is any good or not. Its definitely heavy for its size at least compared to a similar sized porter cable unit I have. The guy also gave me some combination sae wrenches for free also from a brand I've never heard of. At least the logo is kinda interesting on the wrench roll.

The biggest tell on Gerstners is the tin drawer bottoms. As far as I know, they were the only people doing that.
Huh. This one does have tin drawer bottoms. I didn't see a stamp below the lowest drawer, so I assumed it isn't a Gerstner. I'll take a look at the locks. They don't match my other leatherette Gerstner. The handbook drawer is also narrower than my others'. Maybe an earlier chest? I'll have to look it over closely and then do some research. Thanks for the tips, gents!

I think the really old ones don’t have the stamp. Neither of my leatherettes do, one is a ~1919 vintage, don’t think I ever dated the other.

A couple of rare mid-week sales. $15 total.

Craftsman haul. The rusty one at the bottom is a Long C version …
IMG_0779.jpeg

Other USA-made wrenches … Barcalo, Bonney, S-K, Indestro, etc.
IMG_0781.jpeg

Snap-On T-20 Torx, Buck Bros. Chisels, Smith stone in leather sheath, Proto hex socket, and a pretty roached out Matco drill case.
IMG_0780.jpeg

And a couple of miscellaneous items including an unmarked speeder.
IMG_0782.jpeg

The pro run estate sale had a pretty banged up Snap-On stack loaded with tools, but it was wildly overpriced as most of the tools were no-name junk. Not something I have room for anyway.
