Now I just need a crash course how to use it...
The heavier the material, (don't exceed its capacity) the slower you roll - it may take more passes to get the curl you want.

And don't do what they clearly did and roll in the center all the time. The strongest part is usually the part nearest the "hinge" for the roll that opens. get its manual to confirm.

Envy you the tool! The guy I used to borrow the use of these types of tool moved far away, then passed away. (RIP Carl)

Do I just steel wool the rollers to clean them up and oil the hell out of them?

The machine is rated to 16ga. I mess with cars so I doubt I will ever do anything bigger then 18ga. My father in law is a retired E-9 AF sheetmetal guy spent his whole career working on F15vfighters, he told me if I got the tools he would teach me how to use them. Still looking for a box and pan, radial throatless shear, and a bead roller. I think (key word there) thats all the tools I would need to do things like inner fenders and wheel tubs.

I don't own one so I am truly ignorant, but it would seem to me that oil would be a bad idea. The last thing you want is slippage.

DEFINITELY take advantage of your FIL's offer and expertise!

Do you have a brake? Those are extremely handy for sheet metal work.

Nice find, BTW!

Not yet, I am specifically looking for a box and pan brake. They had one at the auction site I was bidding at but it was an industrial sized unit. It was a Chicago style 36" box and pan but it was well over 1000lbs. Bidding went to right at $600 which was an amazing deal but I don't need one that big.

I am currently looking at a benchtop 36" from Grizzly and a throatless radial shear from Woodward Fab. I don't do this stuff for a living and I cant afford (nor have the space) to buy all that industrial sized equipment!

I hear you, on all accounts!

Sorry for the confusion. I had a job where we used an industrial-sized brake, but never heard it called a box and pan brake. Actually, I think we just called it the bender, LOL...

A box and pan brake has fingers you can select and arrange to a specific size (length) bend. An ordinary Brake is just for Long bends. the fingers allow you to bend the ends of a box after two sides are bent. a regualr brake can't do that.

Friday sales, and one of my favorite "annual sales": Spent $15! No GPA ( I left the 2 Profanes for someone else)

First thing I picked up - it's a grey zero case, not a file case like I thought initially, (but I bet I could put 2 small angles on the side rails and it would serve)

Y1-Zero-1.jpg

I looked and Zero Mfg. Corporation is separate from Zero Halliburton... I didn;t koiw that.

Y1-Zero-2.jpg

I hit up the "dollar table" for rsuty gold and did well I think!

Proto PH #1` and a 1/4" driver, US cavalry air gauge, Zenel DOE Lectrolite DBE, Stalwell DOE, a finger! A chisel, with four 1905/1908/1909 patents, Dole "church key" (remember when juice came in a big can?) a Marbles hatchet blade cover and the hose gun is Tri-con

olite-Stalwell-finger-chisc-el-Dole-Marbles-Tricon.jpg

Found separate from the dollar table tools but priced with them: Proto plastic face hammer, Plvmb conbo, adn a bigger Bonney Zenal DBE.

Y1c-Proto-Plvmb-Zenel.jpg

and a second planned yard sale, (I struck out at 2 neighboring YS's to the good annual sale.

at a dollar each a navigation"Parallel" Made in England, and a set of SS scissors.

Yes, that's what I used (mostly to make trays, baskets and strainers). Setting up the fingers was a bit of a pain (to get nice, straight bends). It could probably take 6-foot wide sheet metal.

We also had another bender for rod / bar stock. I could never set that up properly (to account for "memory" in the metal).

One of the foremen would usually set up the various jobs for me (I was basically hired muscle, LOL).

My normal dog park is closed, due to a balloon show, so I decided to go to the one north of me, and in so doing checked for any interesting sales. And there was a good looking one, so little Pepperoni and I went exploring. It was hot, so I didn't want to leave her in the truck more than necessary, so I only dropped in for a moment, and here is what I found
54738234734_caf791f35d_b.jpg
a small socket box in SK colors, with SK wartime sockets, Plomb 1/4 breaker bar, Snap-on spinner, Starrett trammel points (I think), Mitutoyo depth micrometer, and a beat up Starrett box. $6

But something was nagging at me as I took the little dog home, so I went back and ended up buying it

'48-'49 Kennedy mechanics box. Full.
54738133074_3e72c64cbb_b.jpg
54737895681_c6ddedfb0c_b.jpg
even has the little carry tray!

Not sure what all is in it (still in the back of my truck, as it is hot today) but I have seen Snap-on, Starrett, etc. $80 loaded into my truck. And hopefully it will be loaded into my shop before the wife gets back in town.

This post is sooo rich in suckage!

Is that a full set of Greenlee knock-out punches in the top tray of the Kennedy? I mean, that's worth its own "you ****" right there!

And TWO saw sets!

Our local humane society has 2 big thrift sales every year as fund raisers, and the fall one was today, and ends tomorrow at noon. By the 9am opening time there is a line of a few hundred people, but they sale is in a big exhibit building at the fair grounds so it's not too bad for crowding (until you want to pay, then the lines are long again). I sometimes find an interesting tool, a camera, or a piece of electronics, and sometimes an interesting book or at least some reading material. Today was a bust for everything except books, and most of those were novels that I probably won't keep after reading. But I did get two books worthy of mention here--"Backyard Ballistics" by William Gurstelle and "Best Damn Garage in Town" by Smokey Yunick. I particularly remember Smokey's columns in Popular Science magazine when I was a
kid.

Backyard Ballistics was responsible for who knows how many broken windows and eyes put out! Potato cannons that usually don't blow up, etc.

“I’m looking at you through the glass
Don’t know how much time has passed…”

There’s no way this box was on the shelf at Habitat since 7/17/25. I would have seen it last month.

Anyway, there wasn’t much of a new selection at this Habitat. It gets picked over quick. I dug through the small tool section and pulled out a nice older P&C socket in 3/8 drive, a Mac socket, and a Ward’s 1/4”x 5/16” doe with really long jaws for 75 cents.

Then I browsed through the hardware shelf as I always do. Examined this little plastic kit that was all taped up, and was shocked when I saw a familiar name peeking back at me through the little window!

Lets’s open the box together!

Plomb 1/4” ratchet, extension, and 8 sockets! Good bit of rust on extension and some sockets.
1/8 dead screwdriver shank may be responsible for all the rust. The ratchet works like new, just needs oil and wipe down. For 5 bucks I can’t complain!

Just one sale for me today, no tools but got 1 cool item from the 'free' table. This location has a couple of sales a year at a rather unique 50's modern style house. Almost all the stuff is household, furniture, toys, etc. but is all vintage & MCM stuff in good condition, occasionally there is a random box of tools or kitchen gadgets so that's why I make the stop. I think they are collector/dealers as there is a good amount of stuff at each sale.
Anyways, this fellow caught my eye as I was leaving. He was upside down under the 'free' table. Needs a little clean up and maybe a patch or 2. Not sure if it's vintage or just an ikea type thing. It's a fitting find as we are dog sitting for relatives and the sale was on the way back from their morning feeding.

FBMP purchase. The ad was for body tools. Met up with the guy and grabbed all this for $200 which is a STEAL. The Snap On coolant filling tool is $450 new and this was used maybe once. He threw in the Toyota black out emblems and sets of metric and SAE Pittsburgh wrenches for my son which was nice.

I’ve been looking for a second workmate to go with my 400. This one is a type E I believe. Some nice thick leather cutoff, a nice heavy steel drop, and an almost full gallon of mineral spirits all for $8 combined.

Full stop on the WM! you **** big time for that one!

Slow day here - not many sales and what there were had slow selections.

back to yesterdays sale - no new stuff put out I was interested in (a duel fuel stove, but nah...) but a rehash of where I dug out yesterdays; dollar finds got 6 more things for $6:

SO small DOE, SO S-9580 - turns out to be a universal joint tool for 30's to 50's Chevys; I've not found how it works? - , steel driver marked J-816-2 - it has a "Tommy bar" hole like a breaker has. - Xcelite bezel tool, AC socket, door hanger

Y1-door-hook-SO-Xcelite-Steel-driver.jpg

Second productive sale had a FoMoCo, jack (appears unused) and a pair of Fiskars light pruners:

Y2-Ford-jack-adn-Fiskars.jpg

Next sale these 4 old hinges for Free: - I'l be using these to show how well SG takes hose paint off things... but planned to replace the modern hinges on the 1920's french doors in our office.

Y3-hinges.jpg

Last score was $2 for this SS pot and 3 small Proto drivers, the 2 flat blade are different sizes. The pot is destined for use as my "Lye" pot" for founts and such. I'm hack a handle on for the side that's broken.

I know there are guys that are into these. I read a little in the thread here about them. I’m not sure what the significance of this model is? Other than its MUCH lighter than my 400, and seems to be a lot smoother and better functioning.

Just the first into US I thought. The extra wide splayed feet make it a bit more stable. Otherwise I know nothing other than uniqueness of it and rarity.
