Painted the 67 Corvair today. Got some runs and a fair amount of dirt, to be expected with the garage door propped open with a large window fan under it. Wish I hadn't sold my furnace blower a couple years ago. I'll wait a few days, then start wet sanding it and buff it out. The only really bad spot is an apparent bondo from a previous repair that didn't show up until I started spraying. Of course, it's right in front of the driver door. I'll worry about that later. At least it's finally painted.paint day1.jpgpaint day2.jpgpaint day3.jpgpaint day4.jpg

Observing the Garage Door Professional replace the Torsion Springs on my garage/workshop door.
He is being very professional, but the stored energy in the unbroken spring bit him pretty good.
He is earning his money.
I've done my share of those. They are scary--but I've yet to have one get away from me. Two rods so one always has my *** covered.

Put my new doorstop for the gate out today!

I dredged this old armature out of the creek bed a couple weeks ago after a massive storm did some damage. It was so encapsulated in mud and muck from being buried that we originally thought it was a rock when the bucket pulled it out. I spent some time cleaning it up and this is what was underneath all the mess.

Clearly most of it is gone. I used my TIG torch and brazed a couple old nails together to act as a staple for the remaining mounting boss that had mostly rotted away. Reclaimed wood base. By reclaimed I mean it’s strips of an old bench I found on the side of the road. Hardware on the other side is leftover Cushman motor scooter hardware from an old project. I’m sure the old thing is happy to be of some service, instead of rotting away in the creek bed.

Curiousity had me wondering how the remaining tubes would fit

The left side will get welded to the assembly while the right side will get a tab welded onto it.

The far right end is the bolt-together centerpiece that allows both ends to join.

So she's clamped down and ready for tomorrow.

A long overdue service on my LA Pavoni cappuccino machine. I bought this about thirty five years ago, shortly after tasting my first mocha. It looked more appealing to me than than modern(for 1990) automated espresso makers.

It makes a good shot, but definitely more time consuming than most machines. I stopped using it when I had got married and had kids about twenty years ago.

Anyhow, I had forgotten about it all this time, until I was looking through the cupboards a couple of weeks ago. It had some surface rust on it, and the lever action felt way off. Thanks to the internet, I was able to source a seal and o ring kit for this beast.

Looking forward to pulling a few shots tomorrow in the AM.

Well dang, that looks like a nice Butternut...

It's not this yellow, thats my phone camera.

It's a OEM butternut car, repaint.
I like to call it "Banquet yellow"

Spent much of yesterday getting my plasma cutter back operational, tested it and mocking up the hitch I need for the T-van. out of 3 I thought might work the first one I got several years back seems to be working out the best. A 2" receiver is way overkill for this van, but it's what I have,,, found some scrap material for the hitch to frame braces.

Maybe this will motivate me for a front grill guard and a spot for the winch receiver,

The color is Capri Cream. It had been repainted red, and the previous owner was a young guy sanding it for a repaint. He gave up. I like red cars, but it seems everyone is repainted Corvairs red, and I haven't seen any Capri Cream Vairs, so I went back to the original color. I like it.

My Bookeeper will be here this evening, after she gets off her “Day Job”. She gave me some calls to make.
I tried but got locked out because I didn’t know which account number my retirement check went into.
I pay her to keep my money organized.
I don’t know how many accounts you have, but I assume you know the amount, and the dates your check comes. All you have to do is look at each account and see which one gets that amount deposited monthly. Of course I’m assuming you are looking at each account online, shouldn’t take more than a couple minutes.

We had to close all of our accounts and establish new ones because our information became compromised. My problem is moving the automatic deposits from the old accounts into the new ones.
The protection against fraud has made the process troublesome.

I'm a CPA by day and the line I love to drop when talking with banks/financial institutions is "your security is so secure, the only person it is keeping out is the rightful owner of the account!"

I don’t know anything about your retirement accounts, but wouldn’t the bank account # be listed?

I've been on the phone and online all day trying to get **** from my father's estate finalized. He passed a year-and-a-half ago and was living in New Zealand at the time--he was a dual US/NZ citizen. Trying to get some of his stuff shipped back over here has left me dealing with DHL. I hope none of you all ever have to deal with DHL.

Also trying to get an Ingersoll Rand refrigerated air dryer warrantied. I can't recommend IR's customer service, either.

Meanwhile, trying to set up an appointment to get my SS and Medicare started. It looks like I'll have to drive two hours each way for an appointment as their on-line system is junk.

the neighbors came on...my gun is very quite :). He been tearing up the yard for weeks

I sic'ed my lawyer on 'em. Turns out, the problem was dealt with a month ago but they forgot to turn off the automatic notification e-mail. Or so they say.

Now Customs is having some sort of problem. Dunno what. Lawyer time again.

And, yes, between my father's law firm in NZ, DHL and US customs, this is a cartoon.

I heard DHL suspended all overseas shipments... ??? But who knows ..... Tariffs on Tariffs off ... like a strobe light driving the world crazy !!
It's been on these shores for a month or more. Just more lawyers, taking more of a slice of the estate, I suppose.

What's really irritating is that this stuff is for my brother, not me. He was my father's caretaker until he was declared non compos and shipped back to the US. Long story.

Probably gonna scrap this whole fucker or finish it up and post it for sale locally

20250905_121848.jpg

Specific information was shared, about what I can and cannot do. That specific information is wood working as I said I can build the metal frame. I don't know how to do wood working, don't have the tools, and don't even know how to quote work I can't and don't do.

Cost? Only $200 cause that covers material (metal at $146), adjustsble feet ($40), misc hardware ($10) and small bits of other steel. Labor for something similar was $800 alone to my neighbor just too years ago.

Anyway, at some point she thought a wood top and shelf were included in that $200 quote; how the ****?

When budget posed an issue, I took the time to research and find a budget friendly alternative to said issue. Personal friend will do a 12' long, 25" wood top all for $300 because an $600 unfinished butcher block locally is too much.

Asked a follow-up question regarding design and we're back to square one with "the original blueprint included a shelf..."

Yeah, that was before you forgot I said I don't do any wood working and that the wood top is for just that, a wood top.

So I offered the option to refund everything, since it's my sister in law. She hasn't responded at all but there's no way this much can be misinterpreted. Even just looking at what I quoted.

A custom metal framed, 4' kitchen shelf sells for an easy $400-800 online. This fucker is 12' long and square as ****!

/end rant

Sorry to hear about the SS/Medicare issues. I retired at the end of 2021 and my wife and I signed up for Medicare beginning 1/1/2022 and for SS beginning 1/1/2023 (to let it grow another year (8%)). Both experiences were simple and efficient. Online and, as I recall, one follow-up phone call. The rep called my wife and she mentioned that I was applying as well. He put her on hold, came back a few minutes later and said "Well, I got his app from another rep so let's take care of him too since we're on the phone." Couldn't have been better.

Of course, we know things have changed lately. Hope you get it squared away. I will throw out a plug for this book and her website for educating yourself on Medicare and plan shopping - in addition to the Medicare site. Great resources. Also, a very active Facebook group. Highly recommended.

Thanks!

I can use any help I can get! Hoping I don't need to involve the lawyer again....
