Probably gonna scrap this whole fucker or finish it up and post it for sale locally

20250905_121848.jpg

Specific information was shared, about what I can and cannot do. That specific information is wood working as I said I can build the metal frame. I don't know how to do wood working, don't have the tools, and don't even know how to quote work I can't and don't do.

Cost? Only $200 cause that covers material (metal at $146), adjustsble feet ($40), misc hardware ($10) and small bits of other steel. Labor for something similar was $800 alone to my neighbor just too years ago.

Anyway, at some point she thought a wood top and shelf were included in that $200 quote; how the ****?

When budget posed an issue, I took the time to research and find a budget friendly alternative to said issue. Personal friend will do a 12' long, 25" wood top all for $300 because an $600 unfinished butcher block locally is too much.

Asked a follow-up question regarding design and we're back to square one with "the original blueprint included a shelf..."

Yeah, that was before you forgot I said I don't do any wood working and that the wood top is for just that, a wood top.

So I offered the option to refund everything, since it's my sister in law. She hasn't responded at all but there's no way this much can be misinterpreted. Even just looking at what I quoted.

A custom metal framed, 4' kitchen shelf sells for an easy $400-800 online. This fucker is 12' long and square as ****!

/end rant

Slap a piece of 3/4" MDF on top and tell her to f off. Pick up a circ saw and straight edge to rip the MDF sheets.

As for me. I pulled the flat wheel off the wagon. The tire is completely dry rotted. I'll swing by tractor supply and pick up a replacement tomorrow.

Finish it and sell it locally.

Your experience mirrors mine with doing side work for relatives. I don’t know if it was selective hearing or them thinking that I worked for free but I gave up working on relatives cars many years ago.

The Occupational Therapist came to visit. I showed her the Elevator and my shower situation; she was pleased. I then took her to see my workshop, she liked that too.
While there I unloaded the clamps and Chip Brushes from my scooter into the shop.

She finally responded and said that's ok, she'll use the area now as a means of placing things underneath.

I didn't share what my follow-up question was, but I had asked if she still wanted to long horizontal brace towards the front of the shelf or leave it open.

Anyway, just needs the tabs welded on the top horizontals and it's done.

She is right at 144" in length at both ends.

Unfortunately since square tube isn't completely straight, and I opted to place the seam downwards (for aesthetics), I am 1/16" shy of 24" the whole way through.

Here it is at the start -

20250905_160318.jpg

Here at around 3' -

20250905_160325.jpg

Here just shy of 6' where it bolts together -

20250905_160333.jpg

At 9' -

20250905_160340.jpg

And the far end at just shy of 12' -

Good thing I no longer work at my last fab shop lol we had to hold within 1/16" on stainless, or less than 1/8" on mild for large 20' assemblies.

Then again my garage is tiny :ROFLMAO:

@niget2002

The MDF suggestion would've cost me more unnecessary money.

Cause if we did go the refund route, I would be left with two 6' x 25" finished wood tops.

I can't unpay the wood work and expect him to just be ok with someone backing out on the job.

But she's keeping it so this is a lesson learned - don't do favors for family.

The freebie I did for my cousin left him utterly thankful (the grill I fixed and brought back to life). So he's an exception.

I'm 39 now, and for a good decade or so that's how I've been towards many.

Made amends with many though as we just had some genuine misunderstandings; especially my parents and I.

Anyway, they're good people (those I do keep in my life) but for this specific thing, I never knew how out of touch she is/was with everything.

Also I realize I misunderstood what @niget2002 was saying earlier about the MDF as I think he meant for the non-existent shelf?

Nothing leaves my shop if it isn't to my liking. MDF shelf with a custom finished wood top

That should be a crime.

No. I meant to slap MDF on the top instead of the more expensive custom top.

I'm willing to do stuff for family, but if they go psychotic, then I take control and do what I want at that point. Which means I'm finishing it the cheapest and quickest I can.

Luckily most of my family is pretty good about things.

Gotcha, makes sense

Yeah the whole reason why it bothered me so much cause it was way out of left field; completely out of character and so when she said "in the original.." etc I was telling myself, I'm over here gifting you $800+ in labor!

But your time is worth nothing. You don't charge yourself, so why should you charge them?

It's how people think. Probably 90 percent of them think that way.

Tracking! Yeah definitely how she saw it which is why it angered me.

I told my wife I'm no longer making her sister anything ever again. She was apologizing and I told her not to as she did nothing wrong, I'm the one that agreed to make it for her sister. She shouldn't apologize on her sister's behalf and agrees with why I'm feeling the way I am, and also agrees I shouldn't do anymore favors.

Puts some stuff away, dragged more stuff out and spent about 3 hours on the right side T-Van hitch mount, everything fits and is strongly tacked together, the left side I have to do some Tennessee windage around the effing muffler...

Maybe tomorrow... once that is tacked together, I dismount it, Heat the areas to be welded, and well the **** out of it,

The color is Capri Cream. It had been repainted red, and the previous owner was a young guy sanding it for a repaint. He gave up. I like red cars, but it seems everyone is repainted Corvairs red, and I haven't seen any Capri Cream Vairs, so I went back to the original color. I like it.
I like it
Is that the factory color for that car
What is the trim tag color code ?

Be a six ride when you’re done.
My 68! Norwood car is “ YY “

The old colors are starting to come back
Even though I like them myself
Grays are played out

I started to organize my bolts into one of my new cabinets. Had two 5 gallon pails full of them.
I'll have a couple of drawers for bolts and screws, one drawer for plumbing and one for electrical stuff. The rest I'm gonna just scrap.

Great job!

I would pay someone to do this for me. Take my stuff and make it something where I can find stuff.

At some point I will have to do this also, I will hate it.

Started early. Got a bunch of small projects done.

Hauled all the scrap to the scrap pile.

Made a stationary stand a rolling one.

1000004209.jpg

Finished installing all the magnetic dust ports. I have 2 dust hoses, one for machines and one for vacuuming the floor, so I mounted a magnetic port on the wall to shut off the machine hose while I'm using the floor hose. The floor hose has a blast gate for when I'm not using it.

Went and notched out the dash support to get my deck to slide in farther…..oh got to cut down from the cowl support too.

now to find some aluminum sheet or go get a baking sheet from the dollar store lol. Need to make a surround that’s better sized for my deck not to just fall in behind. Then weld up the cowl again lol. I will have tunes by end of the day.

Re-freshed the front end of my 1999 E55 AMG. The front rotors are kinda rare nowadays and very expensive. So I had my originals measured and they were within spec so I had them turned at my local O'reilly's at $25 a pop. Amazing how uncommon that is now, cheaper to buy new most times. Anyway, since I had it apart.....(famous last words) I ordered new Bilsteins and lower ball joints. Really a fun job to with my son, he is getting to be quite the wrencher, a lifelong skill that many kids don't appreciate in this online world we now inhabit.IMG_0909.JPGIMG_0910.JPGIMG_0187.JPG

Preparing to build two large frames that will each mount a baseball jersey.
Two of the parallel sides will be close to 40” which. Is larger than my picture frame cutting jig will handle.

As I’m sure most of you know, the corner angle has to be 90 degrees.
Just as important the opposing sides have to be exactly the same length.

I decided to just replace the long fence on my jig with a new rule to allow the use of the stop block.
I was pleased to find that Johnson Level and Rule still makes the same basic 4’ rule as they did 15 years ago, and that Lowe’s near me had it in stock.
