Spark plugs and a serpentine belt on my wife's VW Atlas. The local dealer was doing some warranty work on it, and recommended these parts to be replaced at 46,000 miles.

Their quote was a bit of a shocker, so I ordered the stuff from FCP Euro. Plugs are getting expensive, at $20 each. Anyhow, less than a couple of hours of work, and I saved about $538.

They told me a major tune up is new plugs

I have a hard time letting stealerships anywhere near my vehicles as well. Kudos to you for doing your own work.

I purchased and installed a new shelving unit from Home Depot. I'm not sure if I like the red or not, but its here long term, so I better learn to love it.

I just installed the 5 shelf black version. Taking a break now. I still need to set the miter saw back up and everything will be back off the ground again.

I had the smaller Grey shelf where the black one is now.

I plan on rearranging everything between the two large shelves at some point. I want to get all the chemicals in one spot and all the tools in the other. Right now I have stuff all over the place.

Trying to make it a light day, with tomorrow being my birthday and all

Filled up the water table because it evaporates a **** ton due to this triple digit heat

20250906_103409.jpg

Cut a few items

20250906_112856.jpg

Small member request, along with some more mounting tabs for the shelf

The long strips are for securing the ends of the shelf for transport
May you enjoy your birthday, and many more, in Good Health.

Today was the first that I have spent some time in my Workshop since my cardiac incident, other than pitching out a small amount of odds and ends and clamping together some boards; i didn't actually get much done. I did ride "Shotgun" to Harbor Freight, the grocery store and Burger King.

My after work nap was refreshing.

Radiator swap for my daughter. Local shops wanted $900-1300 to do it. Took me too long but got it done.......I hope. Glad it's a v6 car with plenty of room up front.
Yesterday got the new sink outlets wired and the romex stapled to rafters in the attic. Just need to run down to the panel to a new breaker.

My neighbor asked me to help fix his electric lawnmower. The plastic pin the power switch pivots on had sheared. I turned a piece of delrin to size, drilled out the broken part, and we got it all reassembled and working in less than 30 minutes.

I printed some tool holders to make more efficient use of my pegboard. By then it was over 100 so went inside and watched the Iowa State game.

You only need one nut as a thread sample. I often do the same for nuts with one bolt or screw in with the nuts.
But... I have the thread checkers, which incorporate both an inside and outside thread.

99% of the time, I just look at the fastener and have a damned good idea of what it is... except for metric vs. inch--that's where the checker comes in. Today, I had a pile of stainless, mostly bolts and some nuts from a tear-down. I was pretty sure they were 1/4"-20, so I checked one and in the bin they went. Could have been 6mm 1.0, but that's why the checker.

Thread checker set I have is like this:

51B5KS5S9iL._SL1500_.jpg

but I'd prefer the pieces be in a case instead of the steampunk necklace.

Actually, I think I need both.

I have thread gauges, but no thread checkers like that, and having a sample nut or bolt gives me the same effect, and its generally right in the bin. I can tell you while thread gauges are a must have for me, they are slow!

Didn't have any of that in my 1/2" fine thread nuts today, and found the hard way there were at least 3 metric jam nuts int there...

Get a good set of thread checkers.
I got another drawer well underway yesterday - most of the electrical stuff that I'm keeping - for now anyway. I suspect I will pare down some of the conduit stuff further as I don't forsee doing as much of that as I used to.
As for sizing bolts and nuts, I still do pretty well at that visually. The size that throws me most often is 7/16".
One thing I will keep is these old cheese boxes - for small stuff. I can adjust the drawer dividers so they nest in there pretty well.

Me too, I have a few, not enough...

Lugz in another thread posted some that had wood drawer pulls on then and had been setup n a custom made wood rack. he was guessing 50 "drawers" IIR Awesome setup! the drawers reminded me immediately of old wood drawers from Singer treadle cabinets. I have 6 of those I want to make a drawer setup for. 4 have the original frames.

Best birthday's are in September
Wish my birthday was in September. January pretty much ***** for camping. Well hope this year is a trip somewhere for it (highly doubtful) or I just fire up the bronco and drive it that day.
Put a new fridge in the shop as well.

With fall around the corner, I started a little pre-stocking. 🍻

With you skills I’m sure you could learn to make your own.
I enjoy making useful boxes using the joint.

Oh, I've done finger joints for some of my camping boxes and such. but I also like to reuse vintage stuff and cheese boxes scream "reuse me!"

Here I was reusing old oak flooring after edge gluing them into "sheets". this was the case for my weekdn pantry/stove/lantern/fuel box:

Fingerjointing.jpg

Completed in use: the "drawer" on the bottom is a cheese box, and has my silverware/utensils in it.

I don't recall--I just looked for one complete enough to get a start on the buckets of the mostly SS fasteners sitting in the storage Conex here at the brewery.

In the way of things MIC, the particular brand I bought likely doesn't exist anymore.

I wanted both SAE and metric without skips from #6-5/8", NC and NF and equivalent in metric.

I do need to add another set that isn't on the necklace--I sometimes need to ID a thread on equipment where the necklace just doesn't work--same thing goes for the board type checker the hardware stores use.

Thank you all for the bday wishes!

Just relaxing with the family as I prefer to do less than more (must be an age thing lol)

Spent a few hours relaxing outside

20250907_092522.jpg

But the "**** has to get done" part of me couldn't relax so I installed my speaker brackets on the wall

20250907_090822.jpg

Plan is to get my wood worker friend to build me one of those wood ice chests for cold drinks

il_570xN.3487605659_aedm.jpg

It'll go here as it's conveniently out of the way but also allows me to mount the amp to it between the wall

20250907_101458.jpg

There's an outlet there (with cover) so I can plug in the amp there
