Very nice! I think a Wilton combo would make a great kitchen accessory though...
Great minds think alike, now just have to convince herhere?
Note sent!
Was thinking like you, looked didn't find, oh well
Don't think that's the serial ... it's a part number of the casting I believe. All Wilton parts and pieces seem to have them.To the right of the serial #....
It probably isn't that huge of a deal, but you never know how far fractures penetrate.![]()
Just finished this one up today, mfg. 1956
Yes, I'll get it out of the kitchen before the wife comes home.what she don't know won't hurt me

Nope, for now I've just left my Wiltons as original with no shims, but one of these days this winter I may get around to making some for them just for fun. Cheers, Bill...snip...Bill, still looking for shims?
I'd like to see more Vise Stands of Garage Journal.
I know a few have been posted in this thread, but I'd like to see some creative ways of mounting a vise off the workbench... Different thread or can we just post them up here?

Yost 33C vise, still US made in Michigan, 5" wide jaws that open 7.5" wide with 6" throat depth. It weighs in at 98 lbs.
That's is a great vise and more than a nice trade but I can't do it, after this weekends shopping I'm up to 16 Chicago era Wiltons, if I start getting other brands I can no longer be called a collector, I'll be a hoarder, I want them all!
Yost makes a wonderful vise. I guess they may have thier own little nitch with the Goverment. Pat Niels, their sales manager and a vey nice guy said that in order to sell vises to the different Government departments. They must document every piece as to place of orgin. Every part must be made here. I think I mentioned it earlier but the number of shop men and machinists working in the Yost factory totals 12!
Thats why I wanted a trade lol, I'm busy trying to un-hoard. I'm going to test the Ebay waters tonight with that Parker and this Parker. This one is a 435

Regarding ebay and vises... who is going to pay to ship a 100 pound vise? I think the cost to ship it (plus crate it) will really knock the final sale price down. People will pay a premium for a nice vise, but I don't think they'll pony up the money on TOP of that to pay for shipping.
I'd try CL for a local sale, or automotive swap meets.

$55 Flat Rate..Thats reasonable isn't it? Thats alot of vise!Regarding ebay and vises... who is going to pay to ship a 100 pound vise? Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. I saw one No. 436 go for $800 and another go for $350. If somebody wants it bad enough, shipping will not deter them.

I saw that 436. Wasn't that seller matchlessantiques? I had a chance at a 436 about 6 months ago but it was missing the collar in front so like a dummy I passed on it . The jaws were nice!

Aahh Nick, you shoulda got that one!
Yeah, the seller was matchlessantiques. For some reason, his stuff always goes for outrageous prices.

I believe he had a big Reed not long ago on a pallet, his reserve was broken at $800!! What does he use on this iron to give it that look. I tried Gun Blue on one of my vises and it turned out like...Well actually it didn't do anything. Maybe its because its cast, I don't know.
To me, it looks like he just sand blasts them real good and immediately takes a picture.I remember that one, too. I bet we watch many of the same auctions. To me, it looks like he just sand blasts them real good and immediately takes a picture.
I ship quite a few heavy items sold on eBay, and do it by splitting the shipping cost. First get a quote to the farthest place it can go in the USA - for me, that would be California. Say the freight to ship to Cali is $300, I list a flat rate shipping cost at $150. On lots of items, it's worth it to me to pay half the freight & move the item.Regarding ebay and vises... who is going to pay to ship a 100 pound vise? If you do that, be sure to state in the listing that you're paying part of the freight to help the buyer make a purchase. If the buyer lives closer than California, I refund any overpayment on their half of the freight.
Most recent heavy item sold? A 300# rotary phase converter (selling price of $2000). People buy what they feel is a good value, especially if you help with shipping.
