This type of hammer os known to have issues with the plastic eventually kabooming.
I haven't yet seen the issue with these newer SO hammers that have red handles and black rubber inserts. The older orange ones would crumble sitting in a drawer. This one appears to be a bit UV bleached. I wonder if that had anything to do with its fate.

I'd be worried that driver has seen this exact same hammer before and had already refused to warranty it.

I wouldn't trust anyone wanting me to warranty anything for them that they should be able to do so themselves.

Maybe there is a reason for friend not wanting to warranty it himself and I don't know the circumstances. My question is why do you think the Snap on driver has seen that hammer before and why would there be an issue with warranty when it is not that uncommon for the plastic to go bad

Because my nature is to not trust anyone. I automatically think the worst of everyone until they show me good reason to think different about them. I was raised that trust is something earned, not given. Wanting me to warranty an item for anyone for anything sets off all of my red flags, especially knowing there is no good reason they cant warranty it themselves if they actually bought it new and it should be covered under warranty.

Did they buy it on eBay? Perhaps already in bad shape for pennies? Guess what, that's fraud trying to warranty it and I want no part of it I don't care what kind of so-called friend you are. Snap-on's warranty isn't like Craftsman, where no receipt needed it's guaranteed just because you have it in your hand. Snap-on's warranty "only extends to the original Customer and cannot be transferred or assigned."

So you don't need to know the size. Walk onto the truck, hand it to the dude and tell him you want another one. Then step back two steps cause he'll probably throw it at you. LOL

My buddy doesn't have a snap on guy around him anymore... Been awhile since they had one. He was up up to see me this week and brought it with him hoping I could because we have a guy come thru every once and awhile. It's been through hell and high water and can't even make out the model number anymore... I figured someone here might know what it was so I had an idea what size it was

That sounds like an absolutely miserable existence. Jeez, man.

Luckily his friend isn’t asking you to warranty it for him. I’m sure Snap On appreciates your white knighting for them.

Whatever. That sure does not sound like what you stated in your OP.

🤣🤣🤣 I literally asked what size it was, just because I didn't say he doesn't have a snap on dealer anymore means nothing... Not sure why I every single detail needed to be said but I posted it... Still wondering what size it was... He has no snap on dealer, so he brought it to me because we have one pass through the area once and awhile. I was just wondering the size of the hammer... The main question was the size... Got it? Feel better special agent

You 'literally" said "Buddy gave me this hammer to get warrantied"

It don't get much clearer than that. You do you.
Yes that's what he did... He's my buddy and asked me to get it warrantied... If he still has his snap on guy around he would of done it himself... Not his fault his guy went bankrupt and closed up shop. anything else to add special agent?

And that directly goes against Snap-on's warranty. That is you expressing that you committed fraud.

Your friend could have contacted Snap-on and warrantied it himself. That's what their warranty says. Don't need a driver to do that.

What in TF are you going on about? Committed fraud? 🤣 how is this commiting fraud by asking my snap on rep to warranty my friends hammer? I'm literally going to tell him exactly what's going on and I can 100% guarantee he's going to replace it because he's a good guy and takes care of his customers

This site is weird AF. I got schooled by at least a dozen GJers for warrantying a Craftsman tool I found, even though that does not go against their lifetime guarantee policy. Everyone said I was committing fraud and how it was so unethical.

This guy is literally going against Snap-on's stated warranty to get a replacement for someone else and it's cool.

Worrying about either is equally dumb.

Dude is wound tighter than a nine day clock…
🤣 I know... Was just a question... If buddy only knew how many times people warrantied **** for other people, he'd look to have us all locked up for fraud. I literally warrantied a ratcheting screwdriver for a guy I know that retired quite a few years back this summer. Told him straight up, a guy I know retired and still works from home once and awhile and the screw driver was jammed up and asked if he could warranty it for him. He's 64 and not going to do the whole email and picture thing for a screwdriver. He told me sure no problem., handed me a new one and said, if he needs anything else done He'd be more then happy to help him out. It's up to the dealer to do what he wants. Our dealer is great.. We don't see him except once a month but when he's around, we never have an issue... He's always willing to help out.

Then your driver is committing fraud to Snap-on. It's still fraud.

Edit: That would also make it an interstate commerce violation, a federal felony.

I had a dealer that encouraged "fraud". He would warranty anything whether I bought it new or not, even if the date code was older than I was.

If you buy a lot of tools, I don’t see why a dealer wouldn’t warranty anything that he or she knew that they would be credited for.

The subject of warrantying tools can be hotly debated here. I agree with the sentiments @WWheeler is expressing. Regardless of what any manufacturers’ warrantee says, there are right and wrong times to warranty a tool.

Not that it matters, I agree with @Fusion13 that this is a situation in which Snap On will happily warranty this hammer. But @WWheeler is correct; The owner of the hammer could simply call Snap on customer service. I can totally see why that will be more difficult if you don’t know exactly what model number this is. A truck rep is the better way.

My opinion: these hammers are fantastic. I own at least a half dozen of them. I’ve bought a lot of snap on tools on eBay, but not the hammers for this reason. I think the materials in these hammers can break down over time or from UV light. Snap Ons warranty talks about materials and workmanship, which, in my mind, covers this sort of damage.

We’ve seen threads here where guys abuse these hammers, which I think is a little questionable. This pretty clearly isn’t abuse. It’s use, age, and exposure.
