I’m getting close to building out a new shop. One area that I need to address is peg board. I keep most of my tools in my Lista cabinets, but I have a lot of Jigs that are frequently used and too large for drawers. Standard peg board eventually gives out and then jigs come crashing down. I’ve thought about just using screws in plywood, but as I add more jigs it’s nice to be able to change the layout around to optimize current work flows. So thinking metal peg board maybe the way to go? I’ve never used the metal stuff so would love some feedback back on what brands etc. I’ll need at least 4x16’ of wall coverage.

I really like the wall control metal pegboard system. In addition to the conventional holes they have slots for their special hook. Their hooks are better because they don't come out every time you try to pull a tool off the hooks. But it is nice to have the typical holes so you can reuse whatever hooks you have and some hooks hold things for long-term storage that don't need to come off and on very often. Their hooks can get expensive, especially for some of the more specialized stuff.

All of mine are galvanized but I think they come powder coated in a few different colors. Be cognizant of the orientation when you order the panels. While the holes will work in any orientation, the slots only work one way.

Slat wall is what you seek. Usually seen in retail store displays.

I salvaged a pile of these gray 3x9’ steel pegboard panels from a HomeDepot reset. I hung them in my woodshop mostly to stop tripping over them as they don’t hold modern pegboard hooks well.

But the good 1/4”-thick Masonite pegboard holds these 50-year-old hooks very well, even tandem hammers.

Can we see your jigs to make better suggestions?

Agreed. Its even worse than Peg board.
Aside from some wood/FRP drill shavings, any metal grinding is on a wet grinder, right?

Holy yard sale! That's quite the collection of binding mount templates! I worked the rental/repair/tuning shop at a local ski area a couple of winters and I think we had four or five. Nice job, but got in the way of ski time. Maybe now that I'm fuckered up beyond being able to ski I should look back into it....

haha, no wet grinder... its more of an issue of the mill throwing chips. That being said, I may be able to separate the machines a bit in the new plan B space... That is only about half of my jigs. I probably have the largest selection around as I've worked for every manufacture over the last 25+ years. So I dont think there is one I dont have. I'm about to open up a new service center for skis / Mountian bike suspension and E-bike motor repairs. Been doing it on the side out of my garage, but its time to expand into a larger commercial space.

Going to be a bit of a contrarian here....

I'm planning to ditch all of my wall control stuff....have 4 or 5 boards in the garage, I think 3 more up in the basement and at least 3 not currently installed. It's the classic "It's not you it's me" line....

It's quality, works well with the factory hooks and pegboard hangers etc. I 3D print a lot of tool holders, and for me it's so much easier to just take a couple 3/4" lath style screws/cabinet screws(big fat heads) and zip a couple of screws thru holes in the holder to a piece of plywood mounted to the wall. Yes I could make tool holders and use the pegboard holes(have done it, didn't love it). I've also made some that use the metal hooks for the slots, and printed some slot hooks as well...again just didn't like it as much.

It also makes it easier to use already modeled things off the internet as I can put mounting holes into the part in the slicer program, so if it's designed for an Ikea Skadis or pegboard or Wall Control or any other modular panel system....a couple of quick holes added in slicer and push to the printer, come back in 30 minutes to a couple hours. I could also do like LilScorpion in his build thread and put in nutserts into the holes and have a sweet grid of threaded holes to zip tool holders into/out of with button head machine screws....but I don't have the attention span or drive to go that far though I love how it looks.

So I'll move to either a piece of 1/2" or 3/4" plywood, prefinished and screwed directly to the wall. If I get fancy I'll edgeband it or put some type of perimeter moulding on......maybe. When I need to rearrange things it'll be 10 minutes with a T20 torx or similar and a driver to pull it all down and rearrange as I see fit.

Looking into it a bit more looks like Omniwall panels are thicker steel than the Wall Control options. Any have experience with the hooks / accessories from either as that could make or break the system too.

I wasn't aware of Omniwall. To be honest it looks better in just about every other way, though to your point, I don't have experience with the hooks/mounts.

The fact that it can be oriented any direction and that the hole spacing is maintained across panels would be enough for me.

Wall control. "Pegs" are tight and hold a lot of weight. I have all of my 10 ton portapower attachments hanging that way including the ram without issue.
