Just get bearing buddy’s for replacement caps. That way you can keep pumping grease in without removal!
At least until to you blow the seals out!

A large deep socket works great for seating the cap if you have one...take care...

edited to add: You guys are terrible...I just ordered a vintage pair of Snap-On pliers off the Bay...LOL

Ditto! Was just googling where the best place to get the tool is, and came to the same conclusion I already new.

Hey, the first snap on tool I've ever purchased, not sure if that is a good or bad thing!

When I did my first one, I used a claw hammer and an old screwdriver.

Now I occasionally use a set of channel locks.

Don’t use claw hammers for automotive work anymore, though.

I always irks me when I see a video of someone using a claw hammers. Even worse is someone using a body hammer for other than sheet metal work.. I mean you, Mustie 1.

Just rebuilt the hubs on my utility trailer. I removed the dust caps by raising the wheel, giving it a spin & tapping the sides of the caps w/ a soft faced hammer. Something about that was very satisfying.

The style cap the OP has illustrated has a rim that sits flush with the hub. Typical old style grease cap pliers and many of the methods suggested don't work well on these.
My personal experience with this type is to begin with a tool thin enough to get under that lip, a T slot scraper or putty knife in my case and work around and use progressively thicker tools as it comes away from the hub face.
Be patient and methodical and you won't damage the cap. BMW (OP's example?)likes to throw hardware at many repairs, unnecessarily so IMHO.
