Ok, some SOB posted a deal on this board for $50 so I picked up a set. This makes my 6th set of metric wrench I have so I really didn’t need them but it is nice having two sets of wrenches in each box in different locations.

Didn't watch the video, but from the screenshot I wouldn't touch that Gedore ratchet if you gave it to me. Esthetically speaking it looks terrible.
lol... pictures don't really do it justice and it feels much higher quality in-hand than perhaps it looks in pictures., but yeah, it's not a beauty queen.

That said, the Wright wrenches are also some of the least aesthetically pleasing wrenches I've owned, but from all reports and my initial impressions, some of the very best, so as they say, looks aren't everything.

Capri wrench extender / cheater bar came in today from Amazon.

To be honest, when I first saw these I thought they were kinda gimmicky. But a couple days ago I was doing the old one wrench on another trick and it slipped out on me.

Got mad and ordered one of these.

First impression is it’s heavy as hell. A lot more beefier than I was expecting for $20.

Time will tell but for now, I am pleased with it.

I too thought these were kind of "gimmicky" when I saw them. I've always just used a box end of a second wrench over the open end to increase leverage. However, there's been a few times when I need the open end as the box end won't fit and that is where these really shine. I was hesitant when I first bought mine a few years ago, but actually reach for it more often than I thought I would.

I like those.
No longer have my Snap On / Blue Point one so I just bought a Martin - showed up today as a matter of fact.
I like it for reaching in tight spots like door shells and deep into quarter panels.
I also find myself reaching for it to tap down high spots instead of a regular pick hammer.

If you had seen the young woman delivering for UPS to the HD shop I worked at in the 70's, you would change your mind.

Sadly, I vividly recall our service manager telling me once that she asked him if he could help her with a really heavy delivery and he responded with "You wanted a man's job, now do it".

Craftsman Overdrive metric longish wrenches $50 at Lowe’s. Says that price is good until 30 December. I assume it’s a Black Friday/holiday item that might get clearanced at the end of the year, but I wanted to try it out. I like square beam wrenches so these work really well for me. Available in imperial as well. I really need to stop buying wrenches, but the case makes these easy to store.

Included the new Williams ratchet in a 1/2" ratchet video I just did...

TL.DW.. The Gedore ratchet is kind of awesome!

Those Gedore ratchets are nice to use , they're my go to.

The lower 48 tooth count doesn't really matter as there is no ways you're using them in the sort of tight spaces you'd need a lower arch swing from having more teeth. You'd pick up a different ratchet for that but that ratchet probably won't have the grip on the handle that makes this ,along with the low backdrag , a comfortable every day ratchet to use.

I also don't like polished chrome handles(polished chrome tools in general actually and only buy them when there is a significant cost advantage like the Tekton socket sets ) and use them only when I have to , or when space is tight etc

I'm due East of you, at the ocean's edge.... Amazon delivers 24/7 + Sundays and Holidays. Except Xmas. I've gotten packages every Easter and MOST Thanksgivings (randomly without trying)... Now I make an effort to employ the delivery people on said holidays.

I do wish these employers stop crushing the concept of the weekend. OTOH, sure, gives some workers time during the week to do errands to businesses with M-F 9-5 hours. Danged if I know.

I want them out delivering on holidays... just like I had to work on holidays... it made me who I am... the world needs more Pines.

Too bad they don't get paid like grocery workers. I guy I grew up with started working at a grocery store at 16. He moved up the ranks and retired as a store director for a local large chain.

This guy volunteered to work practically every holiday through most of his career. Long shifts too. He'd get double or sometimes, as I recall, triple overtime. He was raking it in.

Of course, if Amazon did that, how would we get our cheap stuff?

@Squankum - When I used to work Tuesday thru Saturday, it was great to have Monday off to get things done at "regular" businesses. And, I could sometimes go meet my wife for lunch on Mondays and she could meet me on Saturdays.

I picked up that from mail yesterday also.
I only use pick hammer in tight corners, or for example aligning self made inner panels. Torch in one hand and the hammer in other to get them fit tighter. But I try to avoid using them on visible panels as much as possible. I am afraid I'll ruin the panel if I use them. Slightly too much force and there is a deep hole or a dent in the panel. (= not enough skill and knowledge). But that one I bought purely because I am collecting Snap-on and Blue-point body hammers. I had a list of 6-7 hammers that I wanted from them and suddenly I had 14. So now I might just try to get the rest of them.

With 0 VDE screwdrivers in the collection, this was the gap I saw providing me an excuse to continue buying screwdrivers.

A week back I got a Wiha VDE combo-tip driver. Shortly after, I saw Wiha has this “slimline” where the insulation is flush with the tip. So I ordered the VDE Phillips/flat combo size 1 and 2 set in slimline. One pic compares last weeks non-slimline to the slimline version up close.

Last weekend, working on wiring in an older panel with breakers that only have flat head screws, I wished I had some normal VDE drivers. So I ordered this 7 piece set from Home Depot for instore pickup, only $33. This is non-slimline but the price is so good whatever.

Snuck in a Stahlwille VDE Phillips since I’m a fan and it was only $10.50. If anything, the red on the handle looks amazing in person, it glows like neon. Close color to the PB Swiss handles.

Lastly I got this Bahco 9035 R US today. I’m rebuilding this awesome US made race jack and it has a 2.125” nut I have been unable to free so far. Didn’t want to buy a big wrench for it to only use once, so opted to spend a little more and get an adjustable capable of reaching that size. This thing is RAD.

They stamp too much information. Don't need the patent number, definitely not the "patent pending". I'd prefer "WRIGHT" instead of the funky WrightGrip logo.
They do better on their other wrenches.

I have the Gedore 1/2" ratchet set and gave all the men in my family those sets last Xmas. 9 sets in all from the blowout at Zoro tools. It is one of our most favored ratchets. Don't judge a book by it's cover.
Has anyone like the Torque Test Channel ever tested the metrinch sockets that came with those sets? I've been very curious about how they actually perform.

I've used the wright grip marking to identify what generation a particular wrench was, so at least to me that's useful. Specifically, I chose to not buy a set of wrenches because I wanted the right grip twos rather than one that was pre-wright grip.

I really don't care about patents and patent pending and that sort of thing because I don't find it useful

I also ordered the Craftsman Overdrive wrenches with the $50 Lowes deal, they arrived today. Pretty nice. Some images comparing them to my USAG set.

A few notes:
  • Lengths are the same.
  • The anti-slip features look pretty damn similar, even if the craftsman is technically not RBRT?
  • The craftsman's are definitely thinner, not as nice In the hand.
  • USAG set is 8-9-10-11-12-13-14-15-16-17-18-19mm (12 piece)
  • CMan set is 6-8-10-12-13-14-15-16-17-18-19mm (11 piece)
  • The wrench holder on the USAG was sold separately ($8), but *much* nicer.
  • USAG set was ~$150 delivered (Mr Worker)
  • CMan set was ~$50 delivered (Lowes)
So while I really like the USAG set more, and I really dislike the 11mm skip on the CMan (Porsche uses a lot of 11mm), It's hard to ignore the triple price for very similar SB&D wrenches...
