Whaaaaatt??

The Army staff car livery would be awesome. Get Pedro a chauffeur's outfit and sit in the back wearing dark glasses.

One of many ideas.

Some othr random stuff spinning around in my mind too.

If you are set on the Delta, check the number of miles on it. If the timing chain breaks, it will destroy the valves and maybe some pistons as the 3800 engine is an "interference" engine. I had an Olds 98 of similar vintage and the chain broke without warning, had to replace a bunch of bent valves, the heads have to come off for repair, which is expensive. Mine failed at just under 100k miles.

That ***** and sounds terrible.

At 180k miles, dubious service history and ownership to date, I guess prayers won’t help.

Rather a good looking over before 250 miles tripping it home.

Some of you know me, many don’t. Lucky you.

I am notoriously good at bad decisions 😉

Yesterday I bought a 1991 Oldsmobile 88 with 180k miles or 290k km over Facebook Messenger text and concluded the deal on the phone via WhatsApp.

Collection on 28 December is 260 miles or 420km from here.

Long story.
Craig is dropping his wife at Heathrow 3.00pm on 27th December.
I will take a train from Rochester to London and then to Heathrow and meet him at International Departures.
Ride back to his home (40 miles from Mold) and sleep over at his home.
He will hopefully take me there on Sunday morning (TBC) .
We collect the car drive 40 miles to Craigs.
Then I drive back home 205 miles or 330km on Monday, so effectively a mini road trip from Northern Wales.

Perfectly sane behaviour for me.

Wish me luck.

Obviously I will post something on my YouTube channel “Riangrizz” for those who enjoy Car Crash Television.

More to come.

Suburb of Birmingham, straight line from North Wales back to Rochester...used to go there quite regularly; it was the industrial heartland of Jolly Old England. We had our UK headquarters there.

I would love to collect the car and drive straight up North and do this route and then home.

When was the last time this car was driven a reasonable distance? Does it have valid MOT and is it legal to be on the road?

Best of luck with your latest adventure ! 🤞

I had a good friend with one of these in high school. One winter day, he hit a light pole head on leaving school. Drove it to my house with the front end completely wrecked and told me to fix it before his dad got home in a couple of hours. Took us a bit longer than that to fix it.

Like something I would have done (back in the day).
I once bought an Audi coupe with similar mileage and unknown history, just because it was fitted with a tow bar and I needed a car to pull a caravan on holiday from Northern Ireland to the south of France for our annual family holiday, the very next day. All went off without missing a beat.

Always the case ehhhh.

Time flies.

Another “fly and drive” love it

🍿

This really is a fly by the seat of your pants deal.

A very old saying springs to mind: Only a used car salesman knows how hard it is to drive a bargain

Our retired Doctor lives in **** Place; It's a plush part of Edinburgh. That said, I don't think the "Newmobile' would look too out of place on the street; there's a few people with quaint ideas there!

I really like the rename on the car.

I know it is all sorts of “Don’t buy it” but you are speaking to a champion turd polishing here 🥇

If it wasn’t for the fact that I have Sally looking after George……

I would have done that trip just for shits n giggles.

Long shot…..

I live over at St Mary Hoo, Rochester, Kent.
I may be barking up the wrong tree here but I don’t mind barking if a nun falls out of said tree.
So my question is this…… Being the keen eyed photographer you may be, do you possibly have or use a drone to photograph ?
Reason: I am collecting a 35 year old American car from North Wales on the 29th and driving it back the following day or so .
I have my infant and random YouTube channel “Riangrizz” and want create a mini road trip video about collecting the car.
What would be awesome, is to have some drone type footage of the car driving along any road, edited into the introduction video.

Looooong story, I know.

Anyone??

Suggestions?

Thank you

No, but I do have a very long ladder, you may borrow.

I also have one of these you may have. Hopefully it will warm paint and keep your toes warm, seeing as shoes and socks are out of the question.
I found it under the bench, not been fired up for 20 years, but you’re welcome to hit it with some Grizz magic.

Happy road trip.

Thank you.

Nice vice there too.

Boat anchor?

Remember those watercolours Bryan did recently?

Yesterday he sent me this (and others)

Looks like my YouTube channel logo is getting updated. Various designs.

Observant guy.

Been a busy day.

Registered the new to me, 35 year old car for Dartford crossing toll fees
Added it onto my Astro vans insurance till August ‘26 for £72.00
Added to Green Flag roadside recovery till February for £15.00

So pro-rated payments till renewal

I had asked Steve the seller to use the car this week as a daily.

So at about 14.00 I got a photo from him and a few texts exchanged a bit later.

Great minds think alike as you will see on the time stamps.

So by that time hr had already done over 200 miles.

Looking forward to seeing and collecting it in two weeks time.

based on @loserone on Autoshite.com suggesting that I own a drone rather than finding someone to fly and film for me…..

Tell me more.

I film and edit ONLY on two iPhones.

My regular phone is an iPhone 8

For filmmaking and editing I mostly use a 12 ProMax.

My high level shots are made off a stepladder or ductape the phone on a 15 foot stick.

So tell me more please.

Been digging around online via Google.

Found this review.

Amazed at the variety of options.

Their winning drone, (you need to scroll down to it) seems to be an awesome bit of kit.

Off course I have no clue.

That winning camera is online only and it seems from New Zealand.

Not ever done anything like that but I don’t know if it’s a red flag at all.
I tend to trust and rarely see red flags.

So who will be driving and who will operate the drone (who is the pilot and who is the copilot 😀) ?

May be you can recruit Pedro! If the guy can operate a huge crane, operating a drone should come naturally to him.

I suspect that I would be.

Using a follow me setting.

Or something like that.

But Pedro would LEAP at the opportunity.

I can imagine him being a great operator.

Great suggestion G-Man.

Pedro and Video both have 5 letters, rhyme, start with a consonant, end with a vowel and have a d as the third letter.
Coincidence? I think not

Hi Ryan,
If I remember well this was your car isn't it? (the size 1:1 exanple).
Revell made a kit of it in 1/25
Thom
Aaahhh yes.

I am a sucker for a model of the cars I have.

No Astro here, and obviously never going to see an Oldsmobile 88 like mine.

The kid in my heart is alive and well
