What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Some troubleshooting (mainly checking battery/alternator voltage), and wrenching took place.
After 13 years my F250 battery was on its way out.

Dropped by my local Costco and picked up its replacement. Three year warranty on new one, to be seen how it does, quality of batteries today is worse vs before.

Cleaned up the battery tray with copper wire brush, vaccumed up acid residue dust.

New battery posts got dielectric grease.

While at it I used Mityvac suction pump for old power steering fluid in the reservoir, added some fresh stuff.

Looked other fluids over and called it good.

I've had bad health for 15 years. Diagnosed with a extremely rare form of Epilepsy, I'm the third case in the USA since 1940, 2 heart attack and last year, 2 strokes. Now that the worst is over, I'm back to giving my Ford 427 Shelby A/C Cobra a rebirth. Before the strokes I just finished building a Ford 460 truck block, stroked it to 527cu. billet aluminum flywheel balanced it with a new twin disk clutch. Bought a new Tremec TKO 5 speed overdrive and a new 18" balanced driveshaft.

The left side of my body is numb, from my scalp, down my forehead, left eye feels like sandpaper, my lips, so kissing is weird, down to my, hum, my manhood (think about that) my leg to my toes. For the first 4 months my left hand felt like hundreds of needles were poking it, I almost told my Doctor to cut the damned thing off, but it got better. Now it feels like if you picked up some wet sand at the beach and squeezed the water out, it feels like wet sandpaper. Anyway, I've worked very hard with my PT, especially with my left leg and foot, as I told everybody, "I will shift the clutch in my Cobra and drive her again,...yes I will" , and I AM !!! I won't be racing her again, but that's ok.

A best friend installed the engine and everything else (Love him like a brother) and I've driven her 4 time before putting her to bed for the winter. On the dyno she put down 714 hp & 724 ft.lb or torque ! I can spin her tires in 4th gear. lol

So, I changed the oil, put on the battery tender and car cover today, that's what I did today. 😁

I cannot imagine (and, don't especially want to) what it must be like to go through all of that. Congrats on your recovery, and here's wishing you continued improvements.

Didn't snap a pic, but after getting back from a trip to visit the in-laws, we came home to about 6-8" of fresh powder. The car needs an oil change and I need to look at brakes, so I decided now was as good a time as any to stop putting things off. Somehow after a weekend of travel I found the drive to move the workbench over, and clear enough to get the car inside to thaw out. Likely won't get to the oil change until later this week, but at least she's indoors for the remainder of the immediate snow fall.

Drained the super from the KTM tank, used that to make up some 40:1 Yamalube 2R premix. Yard work should be done for the year but you never know when you might need a chainsaw. High wind warning for tonight and into tomorrow and after all the rain that we've had I thought it would be best to at least have some premix on hand. The old Pioneer VSX-402 seems to have **** the bed. Music is the shop is absolutely necessary so I pulled the almost as old Yamaha RS-V361 from the garage. I dont like it near as much as the Pioneer. I will give it a bit to see it if grows on me.

Enjoyed the mini-split in the shop this weekend while the outdoor temps were in the single digits. Switched gears from working on the '73 Mustang engine bay to working on prepping the engine/trans itself. Need to make some alterations to the headers, but it's nearly ready to install into the car.

Sure glad I got my outdoor wrenchin' done when I did! It was in the high fifties and sunny all weekend--it's now pouring rain and 38F.
Looks like we are in for another week with a lot of rain. Hopefully not so much that we have more flooding, but am sure there will be more landslides. My 30 minute commute home has turned into an easy 60 minutes. I will take that over having to clean up a flooded house though.

Best of luck to you and all of those over there! While we're getting rain, it isn't like you all get and floods are rarely a problem here--unless we have a major rain-on-snow event, which ain't likely as there isn't enough snow in the lower parts of the mountains.

Too lazy to jockey all the vehicles around to get the explorer in the garage. So I just worked outside in the windy 8-degree weather, lol.

Tightened up the battery clamps (I had left them loose because I needed to keep disconnecting it for diagnostics). Then took the brackets out of the floor where the factory console was (it's missing), and put in an aftermarket console I had stored in the loft. It fit like a glove. A mismatched beige glove on a gray interior, lol. But at least I've got cup holders now!

I went to the BMV to get license plates for it too, and put them on. And I have an appointment this afternoon to get a slow-leak in the tire fixed.

I think all that's left to fix is the back-passenger window motor (needs poly bushings like most 80s-90s Fords), and find a radio that works. The factory radio powers on, but just crackles. I'm not sure if all the speakers are blown or the radio is shot. But either way, it doesn't "work", that's for sure.

Oh, and I need to scrape off the awful purple window tint on the passenger side front window. I already did the drivers side. I need to scrape off some dumb tint/banner on the windshield too. But it's too cold to scrape today. I'd probably shatter the glass, lol.

Working on the AMC 360 block for the 24 Hours of Lemons '72 Javelin. These AMC's typically need some help with the oiling system, especially for endurance racing, so I drilled a few holes in the block, tapped them, and installed a supplemental oil line.

Same with the 304, I remember someone saying when you are at the top of the rev limiter there is less than a quart in the pan

I'll take it, it was 17f and 5" of white stuff here this morning(well snow was yesterday), what ever happened to good old global warming?

Was working on the loft (9ft) in the new shop still under construction.

Ladder slipped out from under me and I came down on the concrete floor. Landed on my lower back and head hit the side rail of the gorilla ladder.

Took nine staples in my scalp to button up the gash in my head, broke two ribs and fractured four vertebrae.

My in the garage" project didn't make it into the garage. When it got really cold last week, I plugged in my farm chore 3500 Cummins - as the Q7's "nose garage" is in tarp shop for repair of overheat damage. Fired up the truck and it cranked unusually long (maybe 4-5 secs) drove 10' down to the sidewalk and quit running. To me that meant possibly water plugging fuel filter or what is anemic on 3rd gen = a lift pump failure. Threw a new (Chinese ****) filter in to make sure it wasn't just filter plugging, but the autoprime function did not refill the filter bowl. Also, did not want to risk driving around to outer shop if water in system, do decided to repair in driveway.

Spoke with Dodge and original owner to try to figure out what I would need. The original lift pumps were a warranty nightmare for Daimler-Chrysler so they stopped providing and instead installed an in-tank kit as a workaround. Then along came Fiat-Chrysler so it went from Daimler stopping support of original Chrysler stuff to Fiat thumbing their nose at D-C and in turn D-C owners so they no longer support those kits (and you are right, I will never forget that). No record of memory of this truck being converted and we had ONE warm-ish day (today) to fix it. Found a replacement lift pump (Delphi). rode with best bud out to farm and brought back diesel heater, fuel, insulated tarps and ripped the right inner fender out only to be able to see that the lines I thought ran to the pump instead ran to the back of the filter body - i.e. it had been modified with the D-C kit. Sad because we had the engine bay comfortably warm to the touch (mostly worried about breaking plastic wire terminals). Doing anything with the in-tank pump involves dropping the tank (half full) so not what i am going to do in driveway at winter temps. Took the insurance off as it will sit there until I can put shop back together, then put tractor back together, pull box off truck and bring 3500 in to make into an aluminum dropside deck truck. It is long overdue for some major work, so now the die is cast.

Do you know what year they dropped the mechanical pump casting on the block?

Detired a little tractor so the fluid could be removed from the back wheels and I can repair the rims and have them repainted.
IMG_5259.jpeg

A forklift should be on everyone’s short list. Such a handy tool.
IMG_5260.jpeg

One rim is worse than the other but bot will be sandblasted, repaired and repainted. Pretty stoked to be able to add air to both tires again lol

Will likely be doing that myself later this week, but in my driveway.
I've got to do the girls car this week at some point as well, oil and a rotation. I had the garage door wide open for the natural light as that can't be beat. Doesn't help with the cold, but running the propane heater a few weeks ago left me light headed. The garage space is just a regular two car wide unattached garage I rent. It has an older challenger orange(I believe) 2 post lift in it. makes oil changes and rotations much quicker and comfortable for sure. Whenever I buy a house, a lift may be a must.

“We do this not because it’s easy but because we thought it would be easy”

It’s 100% the truth most days.

Wanna farm ? You can drive stuff.

Hell yeah I’m in that sounds easy !!

I finally got to the local Ace for white 18 gauge wire, and wonder of wonders, they had white shrink wrap as well small enough for the 18 gauge.

I extended a set of white wire 10 plug in white lights 6" in two places clustered 3 lights at the ends, and punched a hole in the bell tower on the church for one light. ( the houses are "original" from my mom, - We have had these since I can remember - and the church I bought later with another house.) The church had two 1/4" holes for mini lights , the rest of the houses have larger holes for C7 size bulbs.

A week or so back I'd repaired the windows and doors as best I could, by gluing loose sections down. In one of the doors to one of tow other houses it was was actually in sections, but that seems to have gone pretty well - need one more go to close one curled piece of cellophane. They are not perfect, but better. I may take another hack at those later...
These have not seen lights inside since I can't remember when - Pics are what they are considering how difficult the camera is to deal with dim lighting -probably be better with a tripod...

Different lighting from no extra light, to more ambient light, to flashed:

Putz-Houses-Lit.jpg
Putz-Houses-Lit-side-light.jpg
Putz-Houses-Lit-Flash.jpg

I still need to sort lights for two more houses on another shelf.

There was a thread that was about Christmas sweaters. And I promised some guy I would post a picture of my light up Ric Flair sweater. Seems that thread is gone now. But I went to all the trouble to convert a video to a gif, so here it is. 😀

No, because unlike my Ford I have had no need to do anything but replace injectors and water pump. I never followed the detail development of the 5.9 through it's life, so relatively ignorant of how and when each thing happened.

Our Jockey tractors with the 5.9's had them at least through 2003, I'm wondering if you have a block off plate bolted to the block.
