I would recommend you or anyone else proceed with extreme caution and scrutiny when thinking of buying any set like this purported to be original. I don't do FB or FBMP and never have, and I no longer do eBay, but when I did, there were a number of unscrupulous sellers who would grab all kinds of miscellaneous tools typical of onboard toolkits (e.g., Auto wrench, grease gun, pliers, oiler, etc) from all kinds of mfgrs, prop them up on one of any and all kinds of miscellaneous tool rolls, and advertise them as original Dodge, Ford, Jeep, Packard, etc toolkits. Just with one glance this motley kit gave me those vibes and one closer look revealed one of the wrenches in this ostensibly Dodge Brother kits to be a Ford wrench.

Thanks for the heads up advice.

I have several of those postwar tool rolls bought in 2016 at a military gathering. A ton of bogus WW2 Jeep toolsets have sold on eBay, many without any original tools whatsoever. Many went for plenty of money too. IMG_9678.jpeg

Interesting, thanks

^ just FWIW - in years of cruising through ebay listings, craigslist listings, and other online ads, I'm always amazed by what people try to pass off as "WWII vintage" or some other such nonsense. That example above looks like a textbook case of the same kind of flim-flammery. Caveat emptor.

July 1957, An actual flying car…that’s 69 years ago… The homemade tool box project looks pretty Kewl. Liquid cooled brake pads using the radiator coolant… some really interesting ideas in the magazine.

@Ayrhead,

Not that I mind, in fact quite the opposite, for I surely loves me some vintage auto ****, and I could even go so far as to argue that magazines on a back seat or in a glove box do meet my original criteria for...
...odds and ends that were part of the golden oldies age of early car culture...[ ]...miscellaneous accessories...[ ]...and accoutrements that people used to famously keep in or on their car!
But... before this trend goes too far, if I didn't point this out, I would start to feel like I am encouraging if not directly "poaching" posts, examples, attention, ooh and ahs that would actually be more appropriately served on @kyrbz 's excellent 'Automobile Ephemera' thread - a sort of sister or brother thread to this one, but dedicated explicitly to what we call "paper", in collecting parlance, as opposed to things!

Check it out!

I’m sorry if I have posted these magazines in the wrong post. I will post my remaining magazine articles @kyrbz post. Not a problem.

I didn't say "wrong", Ayrhead. Just letting you know of the other thread, which is intended for literature and chock full of interesting articles and ads from old magazines, and their admirers (including me!) in case you weren't aware of it.

Thanks for letting me know. Yes I agree you didn’t say ‘wrong’ unfortunately I’m not the best in my responses and tend to say the ‘wrong’ thing…. Thanks again.

Used arm band from LeMans 1973. Don didn’t race as he was DNF after an accident pre race. Him and his daughter were driving the car on city streets and quoting Don “ some crazy little French Guy” came out of nowhere and hit him. Don was stuck in traffic and was worried about all the dust kicking up. He was making a left into a lot and Whack. That was the end of LeMans 73.

I would like to add one of my mystery tools to the collection. I have an idea what this is, but I am not saying what it is, hoping that someone else will recognize the tool and tell me definitively what it is.

Picked up a ton of early "Hot Rod" titled magazines as well as some related "Little books" by Petersen Publications (who printed HR) as well as other titles like Car Craft and Rod and custom! Also got 3 of these Popular Mechanics magazines today. Total of $13. I'm so stoked! I love this kind of stuff.

I just picked this up to replace my current dremel which needs some work done to it. Vintage 1967! I use these on my car when I need to cut/grind on small things. All for about $22 back then.

That's awesome. I've been collecting vintage Kustom and Hot Rod magazines for a while. If I find just one magazine for $5, that's consider a good deal. But $13 for all those. wow.

Does this count as automobile paraphernalia? Not sure how this ended up in my possession. I think it showed up at my parents house around 1970, or maybe a couple of years earlier. Then I think my kids drug it from their house to ours 20 some years later. Looks like something that should been hanging up in an auto parts store.

Not within my originalist intent, but it's too perfect as paraphernalia for the whole dang garage to say anything but hell yes! :)

I've shown this before, but I can't pass up the opportunity to show it again. Unfortunate water stains, but done by my dad with an airbrush in his days as a student at the Cleveland Art Institute in 1939.

Just found this in an antique store. No small stuff and I am thinking mid30’s. But there is a complete box of NOS 14mm plugs with it, original plug wire and regular wire.

Those didn't hang, they sat on the counter on a base with a rod that extended up to meet the body of the spark plug. Ive seen a few at swap meets over the years. Super cool piece!

I have had this "bump steer" demonstration device sitting on my desk for about 20 years. I got it from a frame-and-suspension shop on the last day they were open. I had known the owners/operators for almost 40 years, having done business with them many times, repairing collision-damaged frames. At one time, I brought them my 1964 Corvair Spyder with a suspension problem, and they quickly diagnosed it as having the wrong idler arm, which was causing my "bump steer" problem. He used this "tool" to explain it to me, and I corrected the problem by getting an original GM/Chevrolet part installed. That car stuck with him, and when I picked up my car, he told me they were closing and that it was the last one to be worked on. Then he gave me this "tool," remembering my Corvair problem from many years ago. Every time I pick it up, I think of them and the great service that they provided.

I don't have enough horizontal space to have it sitting anywhere. In fact I just dug it out of a storage shed yesterday. I do have vertical space. But now I want to look for a pic that includes the stand.

I mounted mine on the wall with an “L” shaped bracket and a dowel rod up through the bottom.

Been on GJ for how long and I’m just finding this now??? A ton of cool stuff already posted so I’ll show only a couple of the unique finds of 2025.

In 1953 Post cereals, you could get miniature license plates from all 50 states, Canada and some foreign countries. You could also send off for more plates to complete the set, each of the little envelopes bound by string contain the rest of the entire 80+ set.

IMG_2548.jpeg

This album is literally as titled, drag racing sounds on a 33’ record.

IMG_2006.jpeg

This Life magazine cover story on the drag racing scene at the time.

IMG_1963.jpeg

I could probably find more but don’t want to over do it on a Sunday.

I recommend you scroll through the A-Z Index of Threads inside the Sticky thread at the top of this forum to see what else you may be missing! It provides links to all the major, most popular threads, in defiance of only seeing the latest activity on page 1.
