I spent a few days at the lodge, there were four if us there all day Monday just cleaning and tossing junk. Dude and me went one day and installed the project I built earlier, Jeff and me will go there tomorrow and put new feet on the folding chairs, they were delivered today. I was there several more times, by myself.

I worked on Pats truck today.

I finished some more of the dash.
20260618_184640.jpg
The po had installed this radio here, its not the factory location, but it will be ok for now.
20260618_184803.jpgI got most of the parts cleaned, not perfectly clean, but not bad for all of the red Georgia clay that was on everything.
20260618_184817.jpg
The radio is working but the speakers are not, Im going to Google the wireing harness tonight and see if I can find another plug or some reason four speakers are not working. I jumpered a speaker onto the back of the radio and it worked.

The courtesy lights under the dash wouldn't work, I got the one on the right working, I had to replace the left one.

I finally finished all of the lodge business, we had a good meeting yesterday and Jeff is now a master mason!
So today I worked in my yard, I had to mow, I had to pick the garden, we got about a dozen tomatoes, 6 bell peppers, some onions and a bunch of cucumbers!
Then I sprayed all of the vines with neem oil, everyone said it would get rid of Japanese beetles! BS! I think they like it. Ill go tomorrow and get some Sevin dust and Ill mix it with diatomaceous earth and that will knock them out.
20260621_134644.jpgI have been needing and wanting to get the tops on my grape and scuppernong arbors
20260621_134733.jpg
So I set up some stops on the welding bench, and started bending some old rebar.
20260621_163940.jpg
I made this to help me set everything the same on all six tops.
20260621_184607.jpg
So the tops on the scuppernongs are doubles, they run off both sides.
20260621_184619 (1).jpg
The four grape arbors are just single arms.
20260621_184619.jpg
I welded washers to the arms, Ill string wire between them to give the vines something to grab onto.

Worked in the yard again today,
20260622_161657.jpg
You can see the new grapes way down the hill, the grapes in the foreground are white grapes.
20260622_161905.jpg
Behind the grapes are muskadines.
20260622_161916.jpg
I did them in a tree form, not your typical setup, but they produce way more fruit than we can eat, I give away buckets full to everyone.
20260622_161754.jpgthen the blackberries are on the other side of the driveway.
20260622_161837.jpg
Easy snack when I mow.
20260622_161848.jpg
These were planted this year and are already full of berries, the bare spot behind them will be for blueberries once I get a block wall built.

Grew up eating wild blackberries, never knew what a great thing it was till I moved and didn’t have them.
Same here!

Would pick huge amounts.

Mom would puree them and push them thru a wire strainer to remove the seeds. The pulp would go straight into the hand crank ice cream maker for the most awesome summer time dessert!

There was a horse pasture at the house next door, it had about 1000ft. road frontage, and had the best wild blackberries in that fence, the po decided to sell and he pulled all of the fence out and bush hogged everything flat, he said it made the property worth more! I could pick a gallon a day when they were in season.
Pat makes jelly, when she has enough jelly for the year,

I make wine until I have my stash full, then I start giving them away.

The city I grew up in was mostly agrarian farms back in the 1600 and 1700’s so there was all kinds of strange **** growing everywhere. It became industrialized in the 1800’s so you might have a shoe factory with rhubarb growing in the green areas, a pipeline would be lined for miles with every kind of berry you could imagine, apple orchards were turned into apartment complexes, corn fields became schools.

20260629_155600.jpg
The guy that bought it has a big car show to go to this Saturday and was hoping we would have it ready for him.
20260629_155633.jpg
This one has the 224 motor, it runs pretty good.
20260629_155707.jpg
We called him and said it was ready, so he is coming Friday to get it.
Im hoping to get back in the cabin tomorrow.

Its been too hot to be outside last week, we had actual temps near 100 and 50% humidity. I did some lodge paperwork one day, did a meat run to Athens, got 80lbs of boneless skinless chicken breast, and 40lbs of wings, Donnie wanted a box of the breasts. Were doing wings at the next lodge meeting.
Boardum set in so I turned the air on in the fab shop and started on Pats Hoosier cabinet.
20260704_132004.jpg
I started stripping the top half, there were several places where the plywood delaminated.
20260704_131839.jpg
It was painted with latex paint so I had to dig it out with a pick and a razor knife. Then I filled it with wood glue and clamped it down.
20260704_131827.jpg
The same with the side panel.
20260704_131900.jpg
Its been sitting in the fab shop for a couple of years, so it got a little dirty.
Ill sand and paint everything, it'll be nice.
I have about five furniture projects in the shop, I need to hammer them out and get them out of my shop and my way. The lift kit came in for Pats truck and the extra room that the furniture is taking up would be nice to have back before I start that project.
Hope everyone had a great 4th!

I usually save furniture projects for January - March, but I also am using these hot days to enjoy AC in the shop and do "Winter" projects. The great thing about that Titebond 3 is that it seems resistant to humidity. Very good for delaminated veneer and plywood.

Stay cool.

I remember working like that when I lived in chicago but here I can work outside in the winter in a sweat shirt so this is the inclimate time of year where I go into the shop and turn on the A/C. I plan on working on Pats truck through the winter and it would be so nice if that pile of furniture was gone.
Thats exactly the glue I use!
I worked on the tambor door today.
20260705_172059.jpg
The canvas on the back was rotted and falling apart, and someone painted it and shut it while it was still wet. It was really messed up, so I stripped and cleaned each slat. Then I primered them. Ill paint each one then glue the new canvas to the backside once the paint is thourly dried.

What kind of paint do you use? Long ago, I worked with a car guy who sprayed his kitchen cabinet doors with auto primer, paint, and lacquer. I've never done tambour doors. Never thought about how to go about finishing them.

I primed those slats with rustoleum rattle can, It will seal the wood well, but will allow me to glue to it.
I bought a can of valspar satin finish in bright white today at Lowes. I will thin and spray it with an automotive gun that has a large tip on it. I have set up this gun to spray latex and rustoleum. I'll mask off three strips on the back of the slats so that my glue will bond to the primer, it would pull the latex off, then I have some old coin bags from the bank, they are heavy canvas, I'll cut my hinge strips out of to glue everything back together.
Note, since kiltz and zinzer have reformulated there stain block primers, I use rustoleum gloss white as a stain block on drywall. I clean and spray the water stain with rustoleum, let it dry then prime with pva primer and paint. I guarantee you will not get a watermark bleed through this way.

Doing the bodywork on Pat's Hoosier cabinet!
20260707_142508.jpg
I filled all of the old hinge holes, the dents and boboos with regular automotive body filler. It sands ok and will hold an edge on a corner, where wood filler will fail.
20260707_125853.jpg
While that is setting up I sanded some on the inside.
My son is coming to town for a visit tomorrow! Can't wait to see them
