Got Dad’s various power yard tools here. The battery stuff all works fine, and will be going on FBMP in the next couple of days.

This Stihl FS 90 doesn’t start.

IMG_9639.jpegIMG_9638.jpeg

I bought it a can of Stihl’s fancy 50:1 gas. Got spark. Got air. I need to check the valve lash. I don’t know when it last ran, though it has been a few years. Gas tank was empty when I picked it up, but I don’t know if it was empty when stored. Carb looks ok, not gummed up.

Going to buy it a new carb. If that works, and it runs, it goes on FBMP too.
Make sure the primer bulb doesn't have an air leak. You would probably know right away if it did, but that is why my Echo didn't run. Also clean up that carb gasket leftover material and stick a new one in there if you didn't already replace the carb.

Did some plumbing. I'll never call plumbing a "fifteen-minute-job".

First I had to move a few things:

That took pretty much all morning. Only broke one dish!

Got 'er done:

55378851164_1a764da9f5_o.jpg

and done well.

All the fittings are new; all the pipe is salvage.

The standpipe w/tubes leading in (second picture) is for the water-cooled ice maker. It's eight inches above the max level of the sink, so properly air-gapped. The drain for the ice tub, which sits a few inches off the floor, goes into an AC condensate pump (lower left, second pic) and then up to the standpipe. 1/8"/ft. grade to the pipe (which needs some more plumber's strapping) and plenty of clean-outs.

I'm leaving the shelving unit and all the other **** out of there until the kitchen staff can clean the floor and walls back there.

Built a quick and dirty tool to hold a VW water pump pulley while removing the fan clutch. We thought we could sneak a new belt and tensioner in without removing the fan clutch. Worked well until my buddy dropped the new tensioner down between the fan and the engine, and got it jammed in there . We spent more time trying to fish it out than I did welding up the tool. Needed a small dimple die for a trans cooler support that I'm making for the '73 Mustang build. The smallest one I had on hand was a 1/2", but that was too big. Whipped up this 5/16" one last night and did one quick test press on some scrap material before heading in for the night. That'll do! :)

Made use of the dimple die. The seven dimples in the trans cooler crossmember match the seven in the radiator cover. Yeah, I know nobody will ever see it, but I know it's there.

Just need to make a few cables and the trunk will be wrapped up.

Also knocked out a quick side project. I have a 2,000 mile trip coming up (taking our ATV's out to CO to do some wheeling in the mountains), and wanted to make a few changes to the dune buggy/ATV trailer. The ramps now sit in channels on either side of the deck and attach to the tops of the fenders with wing bolts, and I added dual spare tire mounts using the original hubs so that they carry a full set of spare bearings. I just need to pick up a new pair of spare tires or pull them off of one of the other trailers.

Not in my garage but...... After chasing the problem(for weeks) with my power door locks not working properly on my F350, I admitted defeat and took the truck to a local shop that does stereo, security systems, etc. For one hour of labor they found and repaired the problem and put everything back together. Apparently there was a broken wire inside the boot between the door and the body.
As I mentioned earlier I am not very good at automotive electrical stuff and I suspected this to be the problem but didn't want to risk breaking things by digging in there. As much as I hate to do it, money well spent this time around.

No pics, but condensate drain for upstairs AC plugged and overflowed. Got it unplugged with the shop vac, then needed to dry it out.
Picked up a dehumidifier from the depot that fit between the floors. That along with a box fan to have been running for a couple of days.
Will have to do some drywall repair, but got lucky and noticed it before I had to call the pro's to dry it out.
Now to find out why the sensor on the AC didn't trip.

Only Garter snakes around here
That's what they want you to think....

I grew up in the Willamette Valley, where we were informed that there were no buzzworms west of the Cascade range. Imagine my dismay when I took my first herpetology class and we went out to document rattlesnake dens just south of Oregon City. There are (or were--that was nigh onto 50 years ago) rattlesnakes in the oak savannas of the Willamette Valley!

Not sure there are even oak savannas left over there....

I appreciate a nice, clean looking, wiring installation. Excellent work sir!
Thank ya. These cars with all their doodads and whatsits have a fair bit of circuitry, but I try to keep it all straight. :) I stuck much of it under the seat on the C10 build; the trunk was a more spacious option for this Mustang build.

Shed repairs- built new end gable eaves. Not certain I would of built them in the same manner, makes sense to go the easy route using the broken/ damaged ones as templates and put them back as they were.. tomorrow, heat and thunder storms allowing I should get the gable end sheathed. Roof and shingles to follow..then decide on the vinyl siding, gable vent and trim.

I spent all morning fitting new floorboards into my free boat. The old boards were almost compost.
After a quick swim with the dogs, I coated said floorboards with a salvaged gallon of old-school solvent-based Thompsons water seal and baked them in the sun.
IMG_0662.jpeg

Then I two-posted the boat off the trailer to make it easier to TIG some cracked crossmembers tomorrow. Now that it’s away from the trailer, it looks like the hull needs some dents bashed out, too. I don’t know wtf they did to the sloptray and the transom.

Yesterday afternoon: helped my oldest daughter rescue a kitten hiding in the engine compartment of a neighbors car. She heard it from 40 yds away (rangefinder verified) and inside our house... Very cute and friendly grey but very hungry and thirsty.

Looks way too much like our recently passed Sophie.. Too soon for us to take on per 2 of four in the house, and Mo (our rescue from 4 years ago) is not happy either. My oldest really wants to adopt, but we need to have it checked for a chip in case its just lost. Not scared of people at all so not a feral.

So far no neighbors have recognized it, not even the local "cat lady" that feeds a lot of the ferals. Likely will land at a rescue.

Very calm and isn't agitated; purrs just with one of us sitting next to him(her?) Still cleaning the bowl, (I added a dash of water to the food and after the food/water was gone) - Peed, but no poop so pretty sure it was starving a day or so.

A friend discovered this kinda problem last year in their rent house. The renters called to tell him about a section of the living room ceiling falling down. What a total mess, had to have the pros in to clean/remediate and rebuild. $$$$$$$

For water inside insulated walls, get a handful of aquarium air pumps--cheap--and some aquarium air tubing. Drill 14" holes in the drywall near the base, one per stud bay. Stick the tubing in the hole, attach to a pump and plug 'em in. The insulation will take about a week to dry, depending on your weather and inside conditions. Obviously, hot and dry is desirable.

Should be able to unload the pumps on CL or whatever for half what you paid.
