2002 Subaru WRX Impreza Seat bolt hole gone

Hi,

Was working a seat swap and one of the holes is completely blind e.g. no threads no nothing just a piece of sheet metal.

All of the other holes use M10x1.25 bolts and are threaded. I can't speak to what happened here. Maybe it rusted through and broke off?

Anyways, what is a decent remedy here? I can't get on the other side with a nut. I was thinking weld nut but that carpet and plastic here are ancient. I just have a flux core welder and it is going to spatter everywhere.

Thoughts on what to do here?

Is through bolting it an option?

I had one on a second row captain chair in my Excursion; drilled, through bolted with a 12.9 bolt/lock nut,thick hardened fender washer and sealed it with 5200 on the underside.

I too have an Excursion. I hope that doesn't happen to me. I have never tried that technique and not completely sure I understand what it is. I would imagine that I would need the ability to hold the nut in place on the back side? If so, I can't see a spot to do that.

Yea, you'd have to have access to the underside..under/ outside the car. It would all depend what is in that location. I'm not familiar with WRX's..

Yup, an M10 AKA "Riv-Nut" or "Rivet Nut" oughta do ya. That looks like a decently clean hole, so a rivet nut should work fine.

You can find inexpensive kits with manual mandrels on the Brazilian River that should work fine, or pay a little more for a squeeze tool.

From what I can tell, the M10 inserts are 1.5mm thread pitch, so you might need to scare up a different bolt.

You might also need to drill out that hole slightly to fit the insert.

Thanks folks it is fairly rusty but not there. Do you guys have any recommendations for an kit? I have not messed with Rivnuts or thredserts.

I am leaning towards towards a Rivnut kit because I have another spot where I would like to use one and get my money's worth...specifically the spare tire well mount.

Amazon tool kit suggestions please?

For pulling an M10 I'd get one of the 2 handed pullers, or one you can hook up to a drill or impact.

Alright, it will be 2 handed for sure. Just wondering about clearance. I am gonna watch some youtube so I can visualize as well.

Went with the "WeTols" 17 inch that can do M12. Their basic pop rivet gun worked out well previously.
