Replacement Headlights

I have an ‘08 Tacoma with 102K mi. It is going to my Grandson in a couple months as he begins driving. On the punch list for the truck are replacement headlights. I want full replacement fixtures. I have de-glazed the lenses a couple times and it is time to replace. A quick look at fixtures and there are all kinds of them with different lighting capabilities. What kind of bulbs do you suggest. I want good light without ******* off on coming drivers. Much obliged for suggestions.

How bad are they really? I've replaced housings with aftermarket and they just weren't the same.

I'd get new OEM if they exist or polish them real good one more time and clear coat them with UV spray.

Find something as close to OEM as possible. I got some decent repops off rock auto a while back.



To avoid glare don't mix lighting technologies. HID or LED retrofit bulbs can be hit or miss on performance and glare. Safe bet is halogen bulbs in halogen housings. I have done almost all the different combinations over the years, some work great but finding that one can be difficult.

I've changed the buckets on my Super Duty a couple of times now and this time changed over to ones specifically for LED's. Just got to figure out why the LED's work backwards from the halogens...

Some vehicles switch ground, others switch positive. Thats usually what I find with LED conversions... LED's by definition are a diode, current can only go one way. Incandescent/halogens will work the same with reversed polarity.

You can rewire/repin, or they actually sell pigtails to reverse the polarity for most bulb types. Your superduty is probably a 9007.

I've had good results with the Sylvania LEDs in both the bikes, and the trucks. I polish the stock lenses once in the fall with Meguiar's, and they last the year.

OEM fershure. I‘ve put them on my Gen 2 and Gen 1 Tacomas. Far better than any aftermarket lights of any persuasion.

I used LED fixtures from Summitt on my 2000 Silverado. I love them. In Texas it is illegal to put LED bulbs in non-LED fixtures without a DOT certification.

When I replaced the lights in my 99 Tahoe a couple of years ago I got oem ones from the dealer. They fit right and work like the originals.

I also suggest aftermarket full replacement ones . Some LED conversion are better than others so if your thinking of going that direction, buy some decent ones with good rev and plenty of adjustability.

I've had good luck with TYC brand CAPA Certified (OEM) from RockAuto. They come with bulbs/sockets.

Done 3-4 vehicles now. An '08 Honda just last week, under $150 for both.

I replaced mine with OE five years ago and they still look great. Aftermarket headlights tend to leak after a couple years.
