We have basic cable at our place and when seeing "what's on" the tube I see various shows regarding garages, hot rods, etc.

I'd subscribe if it was worth it but don't really have any reliable friends who can offer advice. Sooo, of the shows out there, which ones are worth watching?

Weekend Mechanic and Two Guys Garage I record on DVD then watch later. I'm more into fixing then "bling bling etc" so most of the shows I just let go on by. I watched the "Ultimate Workshop" series on it's first run here but the stuff was so basic i.e. "There are two main kinds of screwdrivers." that I havn't watched it since.

I am obligated to watch the power block shows especially Horsepower TV. Seeing as how my mustang was built on Horsepower TV. I bought it 2 years ago from the show. I still see it on there sometimes. I watch others as well but I all ways watch the power block:) one of the reasons for building my garage.

lloydthumper, you have a dumptruck too?! That's A+ cool!

I agree that Ice Road Truckers is fun to watch.

American Chopper was good the first season, but since Paul Sr and jr have become self-important millionaires it's gotten boring.

I enjoyed Build or Bust when it was still on.

I think Top Gear is still on, just not on Speed any more.
I have been watching the Spike shows for a long time. They are more enjoyable with DVR though. They tend to beat some stuff to death, but they cover a lot of stuff so they get recorded every weekend.

Chop Cut Rebuild is pretty decent and so is Dream Car Garage, sometimes.

No cable here. A few nice HD channels from the antenna, but mostly PBS stuff.

I don't have time to watch TV anyway.

When I watch TV I'll flip channels until I find pretty much any car related show and watch it.

American Hot Rod
American Chopper
Monster Garage
Pinks
Build or Bust
Chop Cut Rebuild
Dream Car Garage
Overhauling
Rides
Hard Shine
Trick My Truck
Drag Racing
Nascar
The shows on Spike Power block
A couple on DIY

I also watch science/tech related shows when I can't find a car show.

I hate you. :bounce:

Now I do watch New yankee Workshop, Ask this old house and Woodwright's Shop but since they aren't "garage" shows I didn't list them. I used to watch This Old House but they started losing me a few years ago when they spent ~$500,000 turning a carriage house into an "In Law" cottage. Last season one project included $40,000 for a home theater and $80,000 for a "water feature". I watched the first episode of a new project this season and one of the guys said "This renovation is going to be a real challenge. The homeowners budget is only $250,000.". That finished it for me. I havn't seen it since.

You and me both I know there are people that have alot of money and do spend it like that and I don't begrudge them (OK maybe just alittle) But I like real world shows. Or at least they appear to be. When i bought my car I got to meet Joe Elmore And Stacey that did the original trucks show and Ian johnson and Jessie combs from the extreme 4x4 show. I sort of bought Joes transportation he was driving at the time but when Tracey pulled up in a 4x4 dodge that he built on the show covered in mud and ian drove another 4x4 dodge that he had before he was on tv and Jessie drove a jeep It made me think you know these people could probally drive anything they want but they chose to drive these vehichles they do have others but this is what they chose to drive daily and they all acted just like a bunch of guys that hang around garages with the exception of jessie she was cooler than the rest of them. I was impressed and said I would be a life time fan.

I agree with you, Coach. But it's a byproduct of doing projects in the Northeast, too. I'd love to have them come to Middle TN and help me with the house I'll be starting soon. They like spots like Hawaii and Bermuda when they travel.

Okay I'll bite,
In addition to the above Sometimes Car Crazy has a good show and although I think it's a rip off of OCC, Unique Whips is not that bad,

Good ol' redneck reality....don't think its' on anymore however:(

That show hits to close to home. I swear that any one of the guys on there could be from my family. Raybo could be one of my uncles.

I like most of the car/shop shows except Pinks and Unique Whips. And I will agree "How It's Made" is very addicting.

PBS! Hey.. Fred Rogers used to carry a mean toolbox! He was the only guy I knew who could pull out needle and thread, scotch tape or a roll of yarn out of his tool box and find a use for it... Even as a kid I remember.. "That just isn't right... Tool boxes should have wrenches, screwdrivers and duct tape.." Ha!

Change the host of "Pinks" to some gal with hooters and I'd watch the thing. I can't handle that guy.

Why do they have to put these hot chicks on these shows?... I can't seem to leave the couch on Saturday morning.

Just watched Extreme 4x4 with that cute blonde (thanks Dad for calling me to watch it!). Any chick that gets in there and gets dirty, is my kinda chick.

Lets see............Dream Car Garage on Speed, Hard Shine on TLC, Unique Whips on Speed, Muscle Car Garage on Spike, Horse Power TV on Spike, Extreme 4x4 on Spike (yea, she is cute), Car Crazy when I remember it, and My Classic Cars, the one with the guy that has the handlebar mustache.

Hmmmmmm, oh and Pinks, Pinks All out, Nopi, American Muscle Car, Overhauled, American Hot Rod (although I think Boyd is a jerk) and any other car show. Used to watch American Choper but got tired of the constant screaming at each other.

Wow, no wonder I never seem to get anything done.:bitchslap

I'm sure that's part of it. I remember one project years ago where they were putting on a new roof with asphalt shingles. Norm asked the contractor what it would cost and he said material cost plus $300 a square! And that was several years ago! Here a new roof is materials plus $50-60 a square.

They seem to favor more touristy locations as I remember more of the show is wasted on sight seeing segments.

In regards to American Chopper, one of my buddies that reads their Discovery forum said that Vinnie, one of the guys that actually does all the work, quit the company recently.

OCC - Yep Vinnie quit, their quality is sure to go way down. Of course the bike fad is fading so they may be out of luck on their new shop. Friend of my bro in laws does all their t-shirts and such. Gotta a couple of freebies :)

Top Gear is the best, especially the one when they drove through the south.

Unique Whips, except for the Jeff Gordon show is pretty lame. It is the same **** over and over-24" wheels, strut grille and headset TV's big deal.

I watch NOPI to laugh and see the bikini contests

Hard Shine was cool, Overhaulin is played out and boring, Boyd does amazing things but the drama is old.

The new show about West Coast Customs is cool and they do some crazy stuff like the Land Rover they converted from 4 doors to 2 lambo doors and put in a full plexi roof-that take skill.
