I found some pics from when I built the shop in 1997. Glad I ran across them, they were getting a bit long in the tooth. Scanned them in to preserve what's left and thought I'd just share what little there is. It was a fun project for sure. And I was apparently in a bit better shape at the time.

Slab - poured on grade, not done as promised but there non the less. There was a chicken coup in that spot, much better now! At least it's flat and level.

One walla. Poured a raised area for the door to get that above the patio and hold off some water intrusion. Left part of pic is older shed that I fixed later. The wall next to that is bolted down and basically holding that end of the building in place.
Build2.jpg

Papa got the rafters up and they all meet in the middle. I cut a pattern and danged if I didn't cut it correctly. That'll never happen again. Blocked up the end rafters, set the ridge board and layed them in.
Build3.jpg

Framing pic - the braces in the walls are let in to make the section square and stout. The long walls were built in 12' sections and stood up one at a time. End wall is two 10' section. Wife would assist when asked.

Rear shot, shows the older building in front.

Roof on, Hardy board siding going up.

Man door and 8x7 overhead
Build7.jpg

Back wall going in. You can see here how I delt with the low slab - I dug a trench around the base and flashed it off with 12" flashing. I backfilled with gravel to give the water a migration path. That, gutters and some small trences keep it dry. Studs on 24" centers, makes for easy window install.

Cleaning up for epoxy floor. Etched with pool acid, neutralized with baking soda, washed and dried. Two gallons of two part epoxy from Lowes, don't remember the brand. Just rolled it on and let it set up for 2 days.
Build9.jpg

Floor all done, wiring going in. Cheaped out with the gimme 6 breaker panel, later moved and replaced with a 16 circuit.
Build10.jpg

Front almost done
Build11.jpg

Back, building ready for paint. It's white with red trim, have to take a fresh shot tomorrow.

I hope the floor looks as good:)

I'd like to see the updated shots plus some of the interior.

I bet finding these has brought back some memories..........

I like the yellow lumber. Is that some kind of early pressure treated wood? Haha.

Yes - carefully aged by Polaroid! Instamatic shots - a bit before we went digital. I did as much color correction as I could, but they are color faded pretty bad.

And the legs could still use some sun. :)

Here's how the inside looks now - very organized....

Seriously, you're lucky to still have the shots. Many of us don't have that stuff.

Wide angle or fisheye on that interior shot?

From the Weird Karma department - was looking for a pack of old drag race pictures from Green Valley. I didn't find those dang it, but found more build pics. How does this stuff happen...?

Braced and cross braced. No wiggle in that building ha-ha.

A good shot showing how the new and old are mated together. I basically used the new building to square up the tail end of the older building. It's a wonder that thing was still up.

Not that I don't like showing off the legs, but this gives a good look at what was going on with older building that I eventually fixed. See the difference in the Today set next.

Today's view
Shop1.jpg

A Texas requirement - at least one broken down old pickup behind the shop. There's actually 2, so we're ahead in that criteria. The power cord is a temp lash up for the electric fence charger, which is required to keep Rusty dog in the yard. A boxer mix with coil springs for legs that can climb chain link. 6' of chain link. One of those to-dos, drop a plug by the charger.
Shop2.jpg

A more flattering inside view. I like light. This floor gets mopped probably more than the kitchen. ;)

Yes, I am lucky to have these for sure. We tend to never throw anything away - we just never know where to find it.

First off, I'm a sucker for any set of pictures of new wood framing going up on a slab.

Secondly, you've turned that into a no-bullsh*t, all-business working garage.

I like it.

Those pics look older than they are. '97 was still the modern era, yet the yellowish tint reminds me of the old photo album pics from the 70's.:)

How's the floor epoxy holding up??
How many more epoxy coatings have you had to apply in the last 13 years?

Thanks guys! It's not the tidiest place but I get a lot of stuff done in there. It's comfy and fits my "style" - ah, if half-*** disorganized is a style. A/C and heat - like a big play house. :)

The pics were hanging on a nail behind some stuff on the wall, so they've been in the heat, dust, etc for who knows how long. Probably 13 years. They do have that 70's look about them - makes you want to look for bell bottom jeans and v neck t-shirts. The others were stored in the house in a proper container.

The floor is holding up well. I wish I knew or remembered the epoxy brand because it's tough stuff. Just garage floor paint I found on the paint aisle. Nothing hurts it except dropping a cylinder head on it. It has not been repainted. It has white overspray on it from when I painted the Falcon and the stuff got around the plastic sheeting on the floor. I saw that when I pulled up the sheets and I attacked it with Berryman B-12, lacquer thinner, reducer, mineral spirits - nothing hurt the car paint or the floor either.

The slab had cured a few weeks, I etched it with pool acid, washed with a baking soda mix, let it dry and rolled the paint on. Stuck damn good, it pulls rubber off warm slicks, not the other way around.

Green Valley - a pic from happier times, trying to find the rest of these pics:

A much sadder pic from Green Valley - around 2006 before the houses:

Green Valley, man thanks for the memories.

I used to sneak out of the house and ride my bike from Bedford to Green Valley on Friday and Saturday nights after my parents went to bed. I'd stash my bike in the bushes and sneak in through a hole in the fence to watch the races and wander the pits. If I'd have only had a camera.

Raced a few times at Greenvalley.....I believe "Grudge Night" was on Wednesdays....

Sure do.

I ended up racing a couple of times there too.

But raced more behind Miller Brewery and Bell Helicopter.
