While at a menards over the weekend I checked out their tool chests. I was pretty impressed considering the price point. Not as nice as my snap-on chests but far nicer than anything I've seen at sears. I am thinking of picking up a couple of the 41" roll carts and removing the casters to use as workbench bases.

Anyone own one of these boxes? Any thoughts on the quality?

ive got the 41 bottom and the 36 top and these boxes are much nicer than hf's us general and much nicer than craftsman. Ive had mine for almost a year now and i have absolutely no complaints and all the drawers are super smooth. The only thing i had a problem with is the key lock went back for some reason. but i gave the toll free line a call and they sent a free replacement to me. These boxes have a lifetime warranty and obviously its already worked good for me.

Are they much different than HF? I've only looked at them once, but they seemed very similar to the HF boxes.

the metal is a tab bid thicker, the handles are much sturdier, not sure about how much weight each toolbox could take.

A freind bought one (41"). I was impressed before looking at them in the store, more so after getting it assembled when he got it home. (he bought it for work).

As soon as I get the room, I'll be getting a 41" too.

I thought they seem much nicer than the HF cabinets. Similar price range too.

I looked at both before I bought mine and bought the US General from Harbor Freight, main reason was I got a 13 drawer box compared to an 11 drawer box for less money. I felt they were equal in quality except for that reason.

I love my 26”. My best test for box quality is how much do the drawers flex side to side when extended. A heavy, quality box won’t flex much. cheap steel, with cheap slides, will flex a ton. the USGeneral stuff is decent enough, but I don’t think it would hold up to the punishment these could take.

One of the biggest selling points for me was the locking mechanism. None of this “the lid must be up” ********. As you can see, I have mine sitting in some Gorilla Rack, with a shelf overhead. That clamped carpet you see is to protect the finish, as the lid bangs into the rack when it opens. It was important to me to not have to have the lid up fully to open the drawers. The drawers lock by lugs lifting into position in front of the slides, instead of catching the drawers from the back (and creating an unfinished wear point that can rust).

Once we get a house and I get my shop up, the fiance has hinted a 41” chest/rollaway combo is in my future. I’m holding out hoping I can talk her into the 56” :)
