Who makes a good one that has lifetime warranty? Snap on doesn't appear to make an impact grade one anymore.... Soo...any others out there that decent?

Proto has one with lifetime warranty and USA, but it sheered off within a few minutes of use.

I'll always mention sunex when impact stuff comes up.

OK proto is a no no then... sunex, never really used much... how is the actual warranty service? Do you know if they handle it or the retailer does?

IIRC, Snap-On never made an impact-grade in of any adapter size.
I have the full set from 1/4 to 1/2 set plus the 3/4's available and all are marked not for impact use.

And they are all the "black" impact finish adapters, which is misleading.

I can't hardly tell their website description is so misleading... here is a 1" to 3/4"

It is actually called an industrial finish, not an impact finish. The reason that impact stuff has an industrial finish is because it is more prone to flaking chrome bits coming off. Same reason they make industrial finish tools, so you don't have to worry about the chrome effecting anything.

I suggest you make sure you look at the reducer itself for a stamping of the warning. It's on the sets I have (but only up to 3/4") and they are Snappy and bought off the truck from a local dealer. If dealer sold and warranty supported than awesome.

BTW--Ur at 1" reducer there with the link hoss, not what I stated nor what the OP requested. Here's a hug tho. <<<:)>>>

BTW JD850j, there IS another side to that reducer that you do NOT see. Hmmmm...

And I am aware of the finish. Just keeping it simple for the avg. tool folk . Jeebus.

I have two "industrial finish" (black) SO 3/4 to 1/2 reducers. They are stamped "no warranty". Ask me why I have two of them sometime.:)

That being said, I use them for impact duty now and then, but I have yet to break one with an impact. All the carnage happened "manually."

OK.

BTW- - I am the OP, and I know I didn't request that.... I was simply confirming that you were incorrect when you said "IIRC, Snap-On never made an impact-grade in of any adapter size" No big deal, it's cool.... I appreciate you contributing to the thread either way . And I wasn't being sarcastic when I said "I can't hardly tell their website description is so misleading... here is a 1" to 3/4" I was honestly confused because it says impact and then in the description it says industrial finish like all the other non impact adapters they have on the website...

BTW for anyone interested I have confirmed that snap on did at one time sell a 3/4 to 1/2 adapter that was an impact grade adapter it was called the GLA62 however they replaced it with a non-impact grade adapter with a replaceable bit called the GLAS1E I don't know why they did but oh well.... I ordered a Sunex 3 piece set for 20 bux, well see how that goes... I also am going to try and win some auctions on ebay for the old GLA62 because they are apparantly some kind of monsters, they even marked the adapter with "4500 LB" rating on them.. :shocking:

Look again, its rated at 4500 in/lbs, which is about 375 ft/lbs. I broke one once. Some will laugh at me, but I've had decent luck with Horrible Freight. A whole set is only $5, and they will warranty them, so I keep 2-3 laying in my box.

I must be lucky or just good looking cause I use the chrome ones all the time and haven't broken one with the impact gun.
I did break one with a 10ft cheater bar and 2 200lb+ guys bouncing on the end though.

We've abused the Harbor Freight one on our IR 3/4" impact and unlike most of the **** in the store it is actually never showed any sign of twisting. I'd recommend giving HF a try on this item.

I just warrantied a glas1e with my snapon dealer. He replaced the twisted male end and told me to stop using it with the impact gun. He also pointed out where it says " not for impact use" right on the adaptor. I think it has a lot to do with your relationship with your dealer. If he works with you then I'd get the snap on and go to town. How much could the male end (replacement part) cost?

Good to hear. I guess they must have been losing too much money on guaranteeing their former impact rated reducer GLA62....Hey anybody here work for snap on and could find out why that is? I mean, they make pretty much every other tool in the world

As painful as it is to admit this, I've had a Great Neck adapter from Autozone kicking around for a few years now with no sign of twisting.

I got one at Tractor Supply yesterday and it said lifetime warranty. It's chrome so I doubt it's really ready for impact duty. Unfortunately for it, that's what I bought it for. I got a Craftsman 3/4 drive impact off Ebay for $70 shipped. I intend to see how it handles those stubborn lawnmower blades.

Snap-on did at least as of last year make an industrial finish 1/2female to 3/8 male reducer. It was two piece...I would assume they had a 3/4 as well. Proto stamps right on their chrome 1/2-3/8 reducers "not warranted" but warranty them anyway. I would think a 2 piece would be more durable, as there is less of a stress point where the 3/8 male attaches. I think this is one of those items that is weak by design, and warranty is more important...because they will break at some point.

Yeah it's one of those things, why pay $65 for the Snap On one and argue with the dealer or stop by Sears, Harbor Freight, Schucks, Candian Tire, etc, spend the $10 and if it breaks a few years later, oh darn.
