Hey guys,

I really don't technically "need" this as I already have a big hf stand that seems to be serving me well but it seems like a pretty good deal at 100 bucks. What do you think?

Seems like a nice stand for the price. Ask if he will throw in the Hunter spin balancer.

For me there would be two issues. Could I use it and do I have a place to put it. The second one is often the bigger issue.

Ditto... :( I store my engine stands by breaking them down at stuffing them into the garage attic. Likewise, my engine crane is broken down and stuffed into a corner of the garden shed along with my ****** jack.

That does look like a nice stand, though... good for certain engine blocks that can be side-mounted (like a Volvo B20).

If you don't have the room, don't buy it. I have a vacant engine stand taking up space in my garage because it was a good deal

Decent engine stands sell new for between $35 and $50, and show up for less almost all the time in local pennysavers and garage sales. I wouldn't buy one without a project ready to roll, and I don't plan on keeping mine once its done. Talk to your local mechanic as well. Mine told me he sends half a dozen a year to scrap because people bring him an engine on a stand and don't want the stand back once the motor is in the car.

Hard to tell, but that looks to be a high quality USA made unit...something which you never see these days. I would buy it myself in a heartbeat and get rid of my China junk model. Damn, it's blue, too. :)

If you don't want it, let me know where it is....

Yeah, it's a walker. How long has it been since they made engine stands? I may just pick it up and store the cheapie at my dads place.

I have NEVER EVER! seen an engine stand I would waste my time dragging home for that kind of money; an absolute waste. The engine stand in the picture is a high quality stand. If you never plan on rebuilding an engine you are wasting your money. If you are like me you will use it every 5-10 years. To me I would rather fight the storage of a quality stand such as the one shown for years and know I am set when I do an engine as opposed to borrowing, (which I hate!) or the alternative which is getting cheap 30-50 buck **** that will barely hold a banger without sticking a bottle jack under the pan to keep it hoisted up! BTW, a stand like that one made by Lincoln would have originally gone for far north of 100; more than likely the 200-250 neighborhood.

Once you use a good stand the argument makes sense. Buy it and junk the HF one.

It appears that the legs unbolt to help out with long term storage. If I had a chinese one I would buy that one and sell/give/throw away the chinese unit.

Fortunately, I bought my American made engine stand many years ago and am finally using it for the first time. Mine is nice, but that Walker blows mine away.

The only feature I have seen in a motor stand that impressed me is a gearhead to rotate the engine.

The motor in my garage on a $34 HF is 600 lbs and doing fine.

Besides all the Chinese junk you toss in the scrap will be back in a year as a Toyota anyway.

Me, too, until I heard they can get sloppy. The last thing you need is for the gearing to break thanks to a big block. Nowadays I prefer the manual method of turning using a longer bar...just as easy.

Damnit. I was hoping you would skip it and I could get my brother to pick it up. Oh well...

Or you can just give that block a big hug and pull it up.
Seriously, that Walker is reeally nice. I could make the space for it (and that's saying a lot).

I'm sold, going to pick it up tomorrow. I can always use more than one stand, I have a couple of engines laying around. One is a 320 buick Straight Eight and as you can imagine, it ways a little bit:lol_hitti

Plus I imagine I can use them as transmission stands with a couple homemade adapter plates

I also have a late 40's early 50's walker 3 ton service jack that it will match nicely.

One of the best jacks ever! I have one I rebuilt and used for years till it began leaking again after 25 years use, then a friend gave me two he was hauling to scrap a couple months back; I just could not let that happen. I have no idea when I will have the time to rebuild all three! :wtf:

I picked up the floor jack at a swap meet for 40 bucks, leaking. I sent it to my Dad' shop and my unlce rebuilt, media blasted it and repainted it dark blue again. I should have it back in a couple of weeks.
