Re: What did you do to your garage today?

Since i don't actually have a garage, I spent most of this afternoon chainsawing up two willow trees that were toppled by high winds we had before the flood waters came up in my town. Later I stopped by a freinds garage and helped him squegee out the mess that was left after flood water receeded that was at least 30 inches deep in his garage. He had already powerwashed and swept it out many times, before I arrived. We removed the cabinet doors that were MDF and they seemed to weigh a lot more than they should, since they were still waterlogged. Man he really has his work cut out for him in the future. I still need to get an estimate on the roofing that the storm removed from my house, and get the list of items lost in the fridge and freezer. I guess I better get off of here and do something else, but I'm addicted. Thoughts and prayers go out to the souls down south who are getting the floods now.

Re: What did you do to your garage today?

Well D.J. up here in Detroit I myself can't really complain about the rain.My garage is dry and so is my basement for that matter, Knock on wood. I spent alot of time in my Garage this weekend Doing stuff other than what I wanted to do.I really need to clean it out and organize it. It is looking like the before pictures from BB767'S GARAGE. Best thing I can say that happened is that I changed the cardboard on my floor. Got soaked with trans fluid.
If I would wake up early enuff I could get in a few hours in the garage, Till then I will just deal with it.

Re: What did you do to your garage today?

Yesterday I started to make a tray to hold my 3/8 ratchets. I laid it out, snipped the ends and started to think. Man o man, would a brake be nice? I ended up making the trip to HF and bought a 3-in-1 shear, press brake, roller.
http://www.harborfreight.com/30-inch-shear-press-brake-and-slip-roll-5907.html

I hope this thing works ok for me and not that I don't regret buying it. I do have other things I'd rather spend the money on, like siding for the garage. It's normal price was $480, on sale for $400 with taxe and a 20% off coupon I got it for 342 bucks.

UPDATE.

After I cleaned all the packing grease off this thing, I tried to shear some sheet metal, nope, not happening. It went back to HF, junk.

Re: What did you do to your garage today?

Scored a 27" GAOO (circa 1998) 4:3 tube tv. with a swivel stand on kijiji for $40. Got it on top of a cheap wardrobe in the corner of my garage. Modified some shelf brackets to secure the wardrobe to the cinderblock wall to prevent it from racking....

Man, it was hard getting that tv on top of a 6' wardrobe..... TV was heavy -> 75lbs? too awkward to safely carry it up a stepladder... I had to get my wife's help to spot me and get it up there.

It's nice having a TV out there.... started out last week with a 13". Got an old satellite receiver and going old school - only get standard def. channels....

Re: What did you do to your garage today?

Started painting the newly de-rusted mirror arms and brackets from my 67 Chevy C10, cut out and filed to shape a blank to make a replacement for the one missing bracket that had been replaced by a bit of rusty strapping by the previous owner. Just need to drill the holes in it and bend it up to shape. Its been raining hard for the last week or so which means I can't do any work on the actual truck as it doesn't fit into my garage. I did find a UK company thats going to give me a healthy discount on a set of new brake lines if I send them the old ones to use as patterns so they can add it to their lst of vehicles covered which is a good score, less than half price and it helps other UK owners. A lot cheaper than buying a set from Inline Tube and they'll be done in Kunifer (copper, Nickel, Iron) so will last for years.

This is no biggie but will come in handy. I had an old stainless propane grill that shi*t the bed so I removed the side shelf off of it and installed it on the side of my work bench for some small storage for bottles of WD and whatnot plus sometimes you have something to set down that you're not totally into setting on a wooden bench so this will work pretty good I think.

Little mower and weed eater PM, and started sanding some OLD metal cabinets that I bought from my buddy after his dad passed away. I don't have much free time, but I wanna take my time on em and try to make them nice again....I think he'd appreciate that.

The roof was leaking a little bit near some polycarbonate panels (they were at least 15 years old!). Replaced all 3 brittle breaking pieces of **** there. Now have clear rather than faded and leaking white panels. So much more light!

Re: What did you do to your garage today?

I made a LARGE mess on my floor, started pulling the fatally wounded motor out of my dirt track car. I spread the oil dry before I rolled the car off the trailer. The upside is I did win both my heat races prior to blowing in the feature, still got fourth place pay!
The purse will just about pay for cleaning products for the floor.

Took the rear leaf-springs out of my '78 Scout. Turned them end-for-end in order to scoot the axle back about an 1.5 inches. My new tires are going to need the extra clearance. They would have rubbed the front edge of the rear wheel opening.

I put some trim around the man doors to the outside and the other garage. I also fixed the non-working latches on the 1940s steel kitchen cabinets that are used for storage.

I just moved into a new house. Spent yesterday setting up my workshop, building shelves, running electrical, finding right spots for everything. More of the same today.

This weekend, I put a DVD dash unit in my Scion xA (beater, 240mile commute, daily). I also started putting the train horn on my '07 F350... you'd think with a crew cab, long bed, dually, you'd have all kinds of option underneath there... not that simple. LOL Hopefully, I can get it buttoned up today.

The same thing over and over. Busy time of year. Not complaining.

Did someone forget the wheels on the railroad cars?

Just kidding. Looks good. I hadn't thought about building a shed in my shed.

Re: What did you do to your garage today?

I did my once-a-year oil change in all my vehicles today. We don't drive a lot of miles, so I run synthetic oils and change the oil only once a year. It actually costs me less to run synthetic oils and change once a year than to run petroleum oil and change twice a year.

And, the great thing is that I don't have to change oil again until next year.:)

Re: What did you do to your garage today?

The last couple of weeks have been a thrash to get my car ready for the last round of the Track Championship. Before that my other car had an engine rebuild and was put back together along with a new diff. So today was spent putting stuff away and cleaning the floor. I know its not a good system which allows tools and gear being left on benches but when you're preparing two cars by yourself and the next meet is only days away things can get a bit messy.
At least I can look back on the time in the workshop and think that the car went alright and its because I did it.

I have been an avid user of synthetics for 20 years. I love them! Mobil 1 has been very good to my engines!! Castrol Edge with Titanium is also looking like it may be a step up from Mobil 1.

The great thing about synthetics----it gives me more time to get other things done in the garage!!!

Today (and yesterday) I stained the concrete floor of the bathroom in my new shop, installed the vanity/sink and toilet.

Last weekend I pulled everything out, and cleaned things like jack and jack stands. Re-org'd all of the non-bench items to straighten it a bit, and cleaned the floor. A clean garage sure feels nice!

Re: What did you do to your garage today?

Today I decided to start putting my tools in my tool drawers. I like the quality of the new tool box, but I wish you could open more than one drawer at a time. I've been able to get to the first 5 drawers and have two left to find stuff for. I'm still waiting for a bunch more tools that I've ordered, but here's where I am so far...

In memory of my father who passed 6 years ago, I rebuilt a picnic table he built 25 years ago. I made lots of sawdust and used every power tool in my shop in the process! Thanks Dad for teaching me the skills and Happy Father's Day to all you guys. :)

Re: What did you do to your garage today?

I checked the flam locker to see what I have in LOUD. The neons typically don't like UV and are quick to fade, so I think it's between the Chrome Yellow and the Scarlet Red. I'd use the school bus yellow, but I don't want to run out of that stuff. I'm leaning toward the red...

Re: What did you do to your garage today?

I did absolutely nothing in the shop or garage today. We had a family reunion this weekend so I was gone for most of the weekend. Kinda planning some stuff in my head though for a space in the main garage. I need to build a workbench and cabinets in that space, mainly to serve as a reloading bench.

Spent weekend in garage ripping apart front end on my DD 1999 Ford 2wd ranger to replace upper/lower ball joints, tie rod ends, wheel bearings, and broken sway bar endlink...this thing has 250,000 on it still with original clutch but front end is hurting!!! It is so nice though to finally have a place to work on my vehicles without running to someone elses shop!

Yesterday I made two new paper towel holders (think folding C towel) for work. these will go in the engines and the older ones will go into the ladder tower and pick up. Today, I'll put a second coat of paint on them.
