I'm hoping this thread will allow you to show what you make in the "artsy fartsy" vein of projects. I've seen workbenches made better than fine furniture posted here, I'm sure there's lots of projects your proud of, that need to be seen. Post em here.

Been surfing the web way too much. I've got this dream of making metal industrial furniture. This shop does great stuff with angle iron rivets and recycled lumber. Of course they charge an arm and a leg for it all in the name of industrial design. I'm sure I could make this in my garage. Shop.Retro.net

With a full house reno.. I've done plenty of projects.. I'll post my stairs, and my dormer
that I built, that was our master bathroom upstairs. The house had just attic space when
we bought it, and we totally built it out into a master bed and bath. 2x8 floor joist, hardwood
flooring, the whole sha-bang..

And no, they are not code compliant. A kid could get their head in under the railings.

Made an outside garden sink for the Mrs this spring. Found the old hand pump at an antique shop up home. She uses it when potting plants and stuff like that. Has a quarter turn valve on the left side. The drain just runs under the deck and keeps the shrubs moist. Almost time to pull the plug and drain the pump now.

Dormer... We did the whole job.. Cut the permits, cut the whole, plumbing, roof.. all of it..
Dog eared shakes were all cut with a hand/chop saw, out of long hardi board siding.

I also built the fireplace that is in the last picture, and off to the right. It took
me two years to build it. All of the outside colored brick was free, just for me
hauling it off. I poured the footer, and paid for mortar, and the rock. The rest
was two years of labor, off and on..

Thanks.. My wife and I are soo over that house.. It was our life for 9 years.
Living in it, with 4 kids and gutting it at the same time. We cried over it when
we sold it, but now, we drive by it, and don't want it back.. It was love and
HELL all at the same time.. I did find a skill that I didn't know was in me,
working on it though.

Well, my plan is to do MOSTLY artsy fartsy stuff...at least functional stuff with an artsy side to it. Even my garage fixtures...tool storage, etc. (I'll post plenty of pictures when I get started...had to stop and paint the house first)

RVR6000...great use of natural products...I like the tree trunks for legs. I have an old willow tree trunk I've been dragging around for years, waiting for 'exactly the right project' to finally break down and use it. It was a beautiful tree...it's only crime was being planted on the edge of my septic drainage field...that would have surely been a mess later on.

DFA...I like that industrial look too...planning to use that look in my garage. I'll have to go look at the site you posted for ideas.

Nicely done. The birch tree's loss is your wife's gain. Is that a galvanized trough for the sink?
I'd give it a 7 out of 10 on the artsy fartsy scale.

This stuff looks cool Where can you get this? I'm thinking like for the fronts of cabinets and on the wall behind the grinder and around the welder.

I've been looking for a rustic three season sink for the back of the garage.
There are some wild cherry trees that have to come down soon anyway. They'll make great legs.

I thought about posting some of my wifes art.....but, naw....this is garage stuff....

A garage has to have a bar for the guys to keep their beers on....doubles as a space for my boys to do homework while the 'hang' with dad....

Would hardwood floors on the second floor be too artsy? It was actually cheaper than other options....got it for $0.88 sq/ft

No, they were made from scratch to mimic the gutter above which I made also.

The ogee one was made on a RAS computer leaf brake (folder). IIRC it took about 130 program steps to bend it without marking the radius parts. I still have the program and the corner patterns but no access to that machine.

I've been looking for a rustic three season sink for the back of the garage.
There are some wild cherry trees that have to come down soon anyway. They'll make great legs.

Glad you like it.....Saw a company online that made them and sold them for about $600.....I might have $150 in it max. You can see I just used treated deck boards for most of the structure. Letting those boards dry out this year but will put some kind of sealer on the whole thing next year. I know some people get kinda freaky about fruits and vegetables coming in contact with treated lumber but the wife just uses it for plants so I wasn't gonna spend the extra money for cedar.

The sink basin is just a galvanized tub that I mounted underneath the sink with stainless screws. Picked up a cheap sink basket at Home Debit and installed that on the opposite side as the pump. The galvanized tub was bright and shiny when I put it in but it got the nice dull look I wanted after only sitting outside for a couple months.

I put a 1/2" x 4" lag bolt in each leg so the wood wouldn't be sitting directly on the ground and to help in leveling the table on the uneven patio blocks.

I am just going to replace the clock with a neon one. The fascia on the left swings down to get the larger stuff up there with a forklift and pallet.

It is very nice to see an actual working drive in here in so cal. The family that owns this one has two more in the area. I have given the inside of the snack bars a theme to all of them. tiki, orange grove farm and streamline moderne.

Take a cast iron lathe base and add some recycled wood and you've got a cool industrial look table. Would look great in a loft somewhere.

Here is a console table that I made about a year ago. Bought the beam from a mill in Ohio and had it shipped and I poly'd it. Turned the finials and stuff on the lathe and welded it all together.

That console looks a tad weighty! It'll never blow away in a S. Florida hurricane; I'd hide under it if one hit the neighborhood.
