So my birthday is coming up and my wife will NOT leave me alone about it. She keeps asking me what I want. I keep telling her "I'm fine. Don't worry about it." --- but no. That does not work for her. We woke up again this morning, getting ready for work I am taking a shower and she is doing her hair and she shouts in -- "What do you want for your birthday? You need to think of something!"



So I have thought long and hard. I need ideas people.. Whats cheap but useful for my garage I can tell her I want? I've got tool boxes, work bench, storage, lighting, peg board, large tool storage (for a few shovels, rake, brooms)....

Come on fellas, throw me a bone here before I get raked over the coals by my wife. There has to be something cool I can use out there.

And I own a carb'd small block Mustang. So more tools are always a good idea. Or stereo upgrades for the shop? I have no idea!

I doubt that. I am VERY intuitive of what my wife is up too. Only once has she got me something for christmas or a birthday and I didn't know what it was going to be. lol. She asks too many questions and I put 2+2 together pretty quick.

I'm betting she already has something in mind-
If you don't tell her something you may end-up with a widget! That fictional apparatus that has no true purpose but, it had a helluva marketing plan, pitchman (unfortunately it wasn't Billy Mays), and sold for $19.95. But if you buy it right now they'll double the order for free (see, that's the marketing plan)! Then your stuck with two of the damn things- Great!

How about one of those engine scale models ,ive seen them in the speed shops ie. 427 fe,426 mopar,bbc etc.I dont know if there is one for sbf.Would look nice mounted somewhere in the garage.Not very practicle but if you cant think of anything?

sounds like you are content with what you have and don't have a need/ desire for new 'stuff'. so here's another vote for bj and a nice dinner out. who really remembers what they got for a birthday anyways? a nice night just the two of you, that is one of my favorite b-day presents (with my wife, not me, you and yours...). ideally you can romantically explain this to her and walk away cheaply AND earn brownie points.

I gotta agree...... Define "cheap". $20.00 or $300.00?

- There's a member here making some neat hammers and punches and such. Tell her that you want a set.
- spring loaded hose reel
- welding supplies
- ac/heater for the garage

....I've gotta agree though. It's always a good thing to make points with the wife. If you can't decide tell her that you want a nice quiet dinner somewhere.

go big or go home... mine's in a week and a half, and she keeps asking me the same thing.. i told her a new Harley but she keeps saying no... i've got my fingers crossed.. more realisticly i said a dewalt impact/driver would be nice too....

My criteria for the 'perfect' gift...something you would like to have, but would never spend the money for yourself.

She is clearly a 'gifts' person (as opposed to verbal affirmation, quality time, acts of service, or physical touch). Even if you are NOT a 'gifts person,' it is the way she understands demonstrating how much she cares. (that means you should never pass up the opportunity to give her a gift).

This birthday, I asked for the 'thread detective' type devices for figuring out what screw size of any random nut or bolt.

There isn't any power tool you've ever thought, "I'd kind like to have that, but I'd never spend the money for myself?"

Cheap to me is usually $50 or less. But sometimes it depends on the item. Two weeks ago I bought a gas backpack leaf blower that had been used twice for $100.. I thought that was pretty damned cheap myself! lmfao.

I'm going to have to look up the guy you are talking about and check those out.

Tried that once by saying a 71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda with a 4 speed. Ended up with a diecast from the smart ***. :bounce:

Yeah, she is a big time gifts person. She does it at random, she is very thoughtful individual. Her security guard at work (she works for the state of michigan) didn't have any gloves my wife noticed in the middle of winter. My wife is the type to always say hi to her. Well, after a couple days my wife asked her about it and took off HER black gloves and gave them too her. Then told her Merry Christmas and continued on with her way to work.

That's the problem though, there are lots of stuff I'd never spend the money on because I like to wait for a deal to come up. I hate paying retail for ANYTHING.

I started looking through my links and found him (A_PMech). He's made a couple of things:

You might also think about a Drill Doctor. I have one and end up using it to sharpen all my bits a couple times a year. It's nice to have sharp bits available... There's a couple of threads on here reviewing them.


Make it easy on the wife. Give her a file with links to the items you would like. That's what I do and keep it on file for Christmas and birthdays. I update a couple times a year. That reminds me that I need to update it. Christmas is coming. The list is mostly stuff that I would like to have that I wouldn't really buy myself.
