I'm not sure if it was 3M or not but we used tape to put stiffeners on the inside of composite wall panels and in testing the metal failed before the tape. Personally, I think the U channels will look more "toolsy" than other options:thumbup:.

Thanks tinbender.

I grabbed more spray paint and some 3m tape today. I finished spraying the first two drawers. I'm not a good spray painter so good thing the bottom won't be seen. Had these sitting out in the sun but it's gone now so I came in.

I pulled the rest down. They're awaiting final sanding and wipe down. I cut the Uchannel into the lengths I need...well, almost, couple more cuts and I'll have the eight I need for these drawers. Then corner rounding and make pretty.

The weather is chilly and I don't feel like working on this too much. I'll diddle around until I get tired of procrastinating. I'm bored of working on drawers so the kick is coming soon and I'll finish.

I'm kind of fed up with the sunny days I plan to paint being windy  If it isn't windy, it's raining and cold.

Trying to use Mother Nature's spray booth (the great outdoors) is a real challange on a windy day. The wind changes and now your part AND you are painted. Coats don't go on evenly. And you end up using three times as much paint because most of it just blows away.

Real PITA and its almost better to just wait for a better day. I feel for you.

Exactly. I did the first two drawers in the same windy conditions and while they came out ok, it's annoying to have imperfections from flying debris. I'll just wait it out and spring into action soon as there's a steady break. Maybe by this afternoon it'll calm down and I can at least get the first coat. It'll have to sit the full 48hrs.

Better solution - Move to Arizona....Supposed to be low 90s today.

Mmmmm nnoooo...my in-laws are out there. Even DH says he's happy with the distance because we get no unannounced visits. :lol_hitti

Well it could be worse :D you wouldnt be painting outside here right now unless of course you dont mind leaves in your fresh paintjob . We have been bouncing between the low 30's and mid 60's and the leaves are dropping hard and fast :D.

Donkey ****!

Well, got the important areas and the insides primered so at least they're not developing rust while they wait. Not happy. Not happy at all. I guess the best thing I can say is least it's only the primer. I guess when it comes down to it, so long as that front edge is ok the rest won't be as noticeable.

Personally I would toss some plastic up in the garage and start spraying . I wouldnt worry about much more than coverage on the botom , sides, back or inside . I would work to make the front " pretty " and not worry about the parts that wont been seen 99% of the time by the time you mount the slides the sides wil be pretty well covered . The drawer liner will pretty much hide the insides . The only people that are going to see the bottoms are the garden gnomes :D and only the spiders will see the back of them :D. Dont get me wrong I have things I am **** about especially when I am working on someone elses house but in my shop if it isnt going to be seen even by me then I am not going to kill myself on making it look perfect as long as it functions properly :D.

I sprayed the outside edges this morning. Still windy. The man upstairs really likes messing with me. Makes it windywhen he sees me step out of the garage. Then when I step back in it calms down. So I step out and it gusts again. Geeze alou man. Letme finish my drawers please.

Anyway, ran out of primer so the bottoms are kinda bare but it won't be seen, as Rick pointed out. But if I don't get another coat on the inside or outside they'll be ok to mount. I'm prettying up the aluminum channel now. Would love a bench grinder right about now. But the big grinding stone in the hand drill is doing the job.

Also got the 9th drawer slide mounted and should get the 10th and final one up today when I get the umph to remove the bottom drawer again so I have room under there.

All this tedious junk, that's the hold up. blah blah blahyfkjglgkgdslkjs And I sliced my index and middle finger at the tips when I slid my fingers over the edge of the drawer slide. Not cool. So now they have the tingly airy feeling when the cut splits open. And no, I don't have super glue. Fresh out.

Ok, things are going I guess. I just have to do it or it don't get done.

My truck wrench set finally has a roll. Like those holes and natural edges?? :lol_hitti

Anyone notice a pattern with these things? They're always never the same.

Ohh here's my drawer pulls cut and the corners rounded. They've been papered with 120. After I install them I will polish with metal polish. The pull on the very right has already had the treatment so that's what they'll resemble. Should set them off against the hammered gray drawers. Plus pull the room together with the vise and then the DP once I get that done and setup. Sorry the pulls are all dusty. There was stuff everywhere, just glad to have that done that I didn't bother to clean up too much, at all really.

Yeaaahhh, I shoulda had them mounted and pulls installed today...but I'm stalling. Don't know why :wtf:

I think some level of institutionalization has set in

I'll be out of town for the weekend so probably won't get to this until next Tuesday. November is a crazy busy month so seems I'm starting to push this on the back burner.

I need a kick in the tail. A corner to turn is right there. Maybe I don't want to do the next step.

Girl, I thought of another optional add-on feature for the wrench rolls. punch a couple of small holes in the corners of the flap, and install some small brass grommets. (for he one below you might need three..) Purpose? To hang them on a wall or tool board when in the shop. Then they are on display, and handy. I might do that on mine and shoot some pics.

Nice progress despite the weather there on the drawers. Personally I'd do any polishing on the pulls before installation (assuming you re using mothers) so the goop doesn't get in the cracks...

Thanks Outlaw. Yea grommets would make a neat feature. If you do that post up a pic

The polish I am using is Mother's. Good pint on the polish in crevices. I figured do them mounted so I don't have to chase the pull around since it'll be stuck to the drawer. Just a little less tedious but I would have to watch the polish coverage.

Clamp them down with a C clamp on s surface that is easy to clean.

Installed the drawers and got 4 of 8 pulls stuck on there (need more molding tape). But wanted to get done what I could. I've got a pic but I think I would like to wait to show until I get the other pulls on there for a wow affect. Looking good if I say so myself.

The last two drawers I gotta build this week if I can. I need to go dress shopping for the formal in a couple weeks so it's hard splitting my time getting dirty in the garage and hitting the stores to dress shop :rolleyes2

Those look great!

Watch out, though. Sometime soon, you might start feeling the itch to put a metal bench around them. :)

Looks great Girl! But I must have missed something. What is the slide on the top section for? Are you going to make a sliding bench top?

A drawer goes right there, just a smaller drawer. Also a drawer goes at the very bottom (too lazy to pull the drawers..again...to install the slide so will do that all in one shot).

Total will have 10 metal drawers

Thanks guys :)

Now I can go dress shop with some peace. Otherwise I'd be thinking about the drawers while I'm stuck in a dressing room at the mall. Least got the big part done!

Friends stop by for beers and notice your tool box / bench: “Oh that ole thang… that’s something I just threw together a couple a days ago…no biggy.”

Hard work and diligence pays off once again!

You mean its not already in your garage :D:D. Personally now that I have my Floor model Craftsman I will never go back to a bench clutterer again . I love this big old beast :D.

Rick

No, its not! But I can't get the thing out of mind. I'm hoping if I can stall myself it'll be gone by the time I do contact the seller. Would it look weird to have a floor DP standing at each end of the 10' workbench :spit:
