The deals posted in this thread are generally worthless if not viewed within a day anyway. Actually, a lot of the best ones last hours at best....The bottom line is that if you're looking more than ~2 pages back, in most cases, you're wasting your time because those deals are long dead.

Isn't there a way for the forum admin to make posts expire/delete older than X number of days? This is one of those threads that functionality like that totally applies to.

I subscribed after the GearWrench X-Beam deal. I hopped on line the second I saw it posted and ordered a set. Considering I've always wanted a set, but had way too many of the other kinds of wrenches to really justify getting them, it makes the purchase nearly the best one I've made for tools.

Like CHRISTMAS for me! Who can we contact to make this thread a sticky (top of the forum) and see if they can make posts expire?

Thread Detective on sale at Rockler.com for $10.99 down from $15.59.

Not a huge discount, but enough for me to order a metric and std set.

While the price seems fair, shipping @ $6.99 for something that ways a couple of ounces is crazy. Kills the deal for me.

What works on another site I frequent is to make a new meta thread quarterly. e.g. "Hot Deals Oct-Dec 2011!", It keeps things manageable and also gives the server a bit of a break.

I'm not sure what this would accomplish? Is anyone really reading the beginning of this thread?

 So I was successful in placing my order at grainger for the 2 SK non indexing ratchets...but alas UPS decided to end my hopes with destroying the box and loosing both ratchets in shipment. All things considered it could have been packed better, but it was standard grainger packing: 2 of those bags of air and throw it in the box.
Screw you UPS. I just got off the phone with grainger and they refunded my money but still...I wanted ratchets, not my money back!

So if anyone has a spare they want to sell, shoot me a PM.

yeah, I didn't need them either, but for $28.60 with tax,
I got this one.
http://toolguyd.com/sears/gearwrench-flex-head-ratcheting-wrench-set-metric

See I'm sort of mad now I didn't get the standards too.
They were indeed $89.99, on the shelf when I picked up the metrics tonight.
Almost felt like I was doing something dishonest.
Don't see how they can sell them for $27.00?
That's $63.00 off the shelf price.
So for that price, I should have got the Standards too.
BTY that store at the Highlands off Rt. 70 where Cabelas is, is pretty nice.
It's one of those little sears stores, where they just sell a few appliances, tools, power mowers and tractors, and a few TV's .
They just opened, the owner seemed pretty nice.
He said it was independently owned and operated.

Got a call that my shipment came into the local Grainger. I've been tracking the UPS shipment from Chicago. The package was confirmed to have contained two SK ratchets.

Get a call from Grainger will call this afternoon.

"Sorry, but only one of the ratchets got to us in the box. There was a big hole in the UPS box, and your ratchet must have fallen out somewhere along the way."

I **** you not..

For the life of me, I can't understand people's issue with scanning through one, maybe two pages of this thread. It's SO much faster and easier than it would be if each post was it's own thread in a dedicated forum, and you had to open each thread individually to read them and the comments. I guess some people are willing to sacrifice time for organization and I'm just not one of them.

Only in your eyes. What if I just read 3 pages of comments and deals that I didn't want?

If each deal was in a separate thread, I could glance at a page of threads, take 10 seconds at most and go, nope nothing I want to click on.

Also the subscription *****, I have instant turned on and I get an email alert sometimes twice a day even though there are many more posts than that.

:eyecrazy:

edit: thanks for the free shipping, it made me bite on the Rockler order. I get tired of searching for a like bolt/nut to compare to.

I'm subscribed as well, and I only receive some of the posts in my email, I haven't been able to figure out why as its not just new posts or replys just seems rather random. I purchased the Grainger SK ratchets as well, then got denied, then got an email stating they will be shipped on the 15th? so I am very interested in the grainger thread wondering if and or when my account will be charged and the items delivered, or not.
My thought on the subthreads was to list them by major supplier, as we all know there are lots of peeps on here that don't want to even look at a "sears, grainger, etc." hot deal post. If they were listed by supplier you could subscribe to the subthreads you are interested in, or only check those subthreads.

So, a 17 inch long 1/2 in ratchet that weighs 2+ pounds just falls out of the box "somewhere" along the way and gets overlooked? I call BS on that.

I only had the non indexing ones, so 11 in I think? Look at the condition of the box, I think someone dropkicked it or something, I hope they broke their damn toes. I want my damn ratchets.

Somewhere, at a major UPS shipping hub, under one of the sorting conveyor lines, is a BIG pile of some SK ratchets - some lucky maintenance peep or custodian is gonna make out like a bandit lol!

Same here. Used code 2U614 to qualify for free shipping fwiw. Thanks to the OP for posting, I need these things more often than I care to think-- the local Ace or TruValue never have post boards with gauges to check my bolt threads and sizes against!

Thanks for the heads up, I thought it may be something like that and try to refresh my hot deals page thru out the day.

Once you are subscribe, just I just go to my "User CP" .
If there are any new threads, it will show up there.
Then , in case you don't know, if you click on the little upside down triangle to the left of the post, it will take you to your last un read post.
I did the e mail notice thing for a while, but it drove me crazy.
I keep a User CP tab open the whole time.

Like someone said, if you are subscribed for instant email notification, it only sends one email for the first new post since you last logged into the site (or if you remain logged in, the last time you opened the page whether you viewed anything or not). For any subsequent new posts, beyond the first one you were notified about, no email is sent -- it expects that you will log in to see the post contained in the email, and view all new posts at once -- otherwise it would fill your inbox with alerts. Once you log into the site again, whether you visit/read this thread or not, it marks all threads on the forum as viewed when you leave the page, and will again notify you of the first new post after you've left the page.

There are two ways to think you are not getting notifications properly. First, if you get the email and don't visit the site. Until you visit the site, you will never receive another notification no matter how many new posts happen after the one it alerted you about. Second, you get the email, but don't follow the link in it straight to this thread. You instead log into garage journal and browse other threads, and forget about this one. When you leave, you'll get a new alert for the first post that happened after you've left, but you'll have missed/think you read/forgot about those posts that happened between alerts (unless you scroll up). There is a third thing where if you are currently responding to a post (like I am now) or have the browser open on the page for a while either viewing the thread or dropping a deuce, or even just browsing the overall site for a long time, it can get a little screwed up on whether or not you've left and need a notification, so you may need to scroll up a post or two on each visit to make sure it properly brings you to the newest thread. And you can bet that there are at least a few posts a day. If you go more than a few hours without a notification, for whatever reason, drop on by and double check and "reset" the notifications because something probably happened.

On the topic of sites that put all deals in threads in a forum, slickdeals is another example of a site that puts each deal into a thread. Hell, it seems like half the deals posted here were on slickdeals first. IMO their site is a nightmare to deal with and keep up with (thank God for the iSlick Pro app). Partially because they get so many deals, but also I find it hard to keep track of everything when old threads are at the top because of new comments, and new deals with no comments get pushed down, are on the next page, etc. This is especially especially difficult if you visit the page, and don't have the time to view every single thread in a visit. Then you can forget about it keeping track of what you have and have not read, and you wind up reading and rereading everything to make sure you're up to date. What a nightmare. IMO, we should keep this thread singular as long as we can (as long as we have few enough deals and chit chat that it is not too unreasonable to view this way). If a lot of guys can barely manage alerts on this thread, it seems that dealing with alerts for a full forum, dealing with finding the deals you want, and keeping track of what you have and have not read would be even harder with a sub forum?

I bet you they got more for them on their insurance claim (retail) from UPS than you paid for them.

UPS is great at losing stuff. There is a bussiness here locally that buys damaged and misguided freight from several shipping companies. I found a custom riffle barrel there one day in the packing tube with the shipping address and name in the tube. It was just shipped to the wrong place so they sold it. I happened to know there was a 2 year wait for that particular barrel company (Hart). Picked it up for $20. Called the guy and told him I had his barrel and how I got it. He paid the shipping and my $20 and was elated.

For those getting the thread detectives, consider cutting the cable once you get them. Its a PITA to try and twist the entire cable of gauges, frustrating is putting it mildly. If you just have a bolt or nut its not too bad though.

If anyone thinks of a better way to store them once you cut the cable let me know, as it is, I just string them back up when Im done.

I dont know if your into flyfishing, but alot of us use whats called a neck lanyard, most of them have big beads on them to keep you stuff seperated, not unlike that thread detective set. Maybe replace the cable that comes with it with a lightweight flexible coated wire to a length that suits your needs and a snap to close it. It's not like your not going to try to tow something with it

That's too funny. Before I even read your post, snap swivels popped into my brain. Just make a little lead off the cable for each thread detective piece, tie a snap swivel on and your done.

STAAAAY AWAY FROM SEARS SHIPVANTAGE!!!! Sorry for yellin but it took me about 2 months to get out of it. They have a 30 day free trial but the fine print reads must cancel within 25. I cancelled with 15 days and they tried every trick in the book to deny my refund. Only after filing with the BBB did I receive full refund. I love Sears but that Shi%vantage has got to go.....

I've had Shipvantage under 3 emails: mine, my wife's, and my dogs (OK I made it up - it's driven by email addresses so I just created one for my dog). Canceled each time, and even on the first time I canceled after it was charged and they gave me all my money back instantly. Calling wasn't a pain, at least not as much as how much I'd have to work to pay for all the shipping charges that I got for free.

Did you use the same sears account and just change the email addresses?

Just in case some of you may not be aware, if you order something from the computer kiosk in Sears, it is automatically free shipping. It loads in a locked down Internet Explorer to the regular Sears.com site...so all usual 10-15% online discounts and $5/50 coupon still applies too.

Is it free shipping to the store only? Or free shipping to your house if you want?

I've been shopping the C3 1/2" impact and one thing or another has kept me from buying it. Last one was "online only" no in store pickup only shipped. So I got the bright idea to stop by Sears and use the kiosk, but something about it wouldn't work. I can't remember if it would not show the online only deals, or just wouldn't accept my Craftsman Club or any other discounts.

Kiosk is shipped to your home free.
