Reminder: DIYer $$ for Survey Opportunity - I've been told that additional panel members are needed

Also: TG Craftsman Max Axess Giveaway, ends Friday.

Stuey i signed up and did the servey you posted after the gift card deal was done, but I haven't heard from them or recieved a signup email or anything, did anyone else get one?
I asked about this late yesterday and was told that "DIYers can still register for the panel [as] that will allow them to contribute on future surveys. This will be an on-going initiative..." and that "[they] promise, Company Name won’t ask them [DIYers] to do ANYTHING without compensating them nicely for their time and effort." (Emphasis is theirs.)

Based on that I'm inclined to think it's still worth signing up for. What I'm thinking is that they're working on analyzing the results from the survey and are working on setting up the next.

Thanks Stuey, just wondered because it seems you can't even sign up for a email alert from a store anymore without receiving and replying to a signup email confirmation.

As I understand it the local Sears Outlet store, which appears to be a different company than a normal Sears, runs periodic big sales with little notice where insiders pull up trucks and load up on items to sell on CL or at the swap meet.

Santa Ana, Ca location is large and full of big appliances, fridge, dish etc washers, with prices no better than regular store sale prices.

Brea, Ca location two floors, top all clothes, bottom like a small version of Santa Ana store, fair amount of some weird brand of tools etc.

I've never seen remotely a good deal on any tool or toolbox at either one, but plenty of ads for stuff pretty clearly from them being resold on CL.

I printed out your picture and took it to my local HD and they actually price matched the photo. Thank you.

I printed the pic and took it with me. I asked the tool guy where they were and he showed me the 2 they had on the shelf. They were marked $79.99
I asked if they could sell them to me for the $25 price in the photo. He said nope. I asked for a manager and asked the manager the same question and he said "no but I can offer 10% off". I said "no thanks I'm not gonna pay $72 for something that is selling other HD stores for $25. I'll just call corporate and see if they have a better solution."

The manager said "OK".

This is the same HD that had 2 of the Ridgid 5pc kits discounted to $125 in there stock system. I looked and looked , finally found 1 box with the right SKU and even had the $125 discounted sticker on it. The box was empty. I asked for help locating the tools that belong in the kit. The tool guy told me that the box had been empty for a long time and that it was empty when he put the discount sticker on it. :headscrat

We have a sears outlet store here too, Appliances that look like they fell off the back of a truck for $20 off normal retail - a stainless finish french door fridge with a huge dent in the door comes to mind , plus more and more junk and clothes started showing up. I don't even bother stopping in there anymore.

No problem! From what I understand, this is highly targeted market research campaign. It's not a "sign up for this freebie so we can send you marketing and sales emails" type of deal. I also get the feeling that this is their first time running a research campaign in this manner. As far as I can tell, there's no means by which they can even send out auto-acknowledgements using the survey.

The True Value coupon codes only work once per customer though which is lame. Advanced coupon code VISA works as well:
30 off 75
50 off 150

Anybody got a link for this Ridgid 5pc kit? With the sku, I might go check out the nearby HD and see if they've got one laying around.

I'm not making any special trips, but signing up with Sears rewards I get a coupon for a free clothing item at the outlet store, good for up to 11 people per coupon, but supposed to be one per family, so far no issue for my son and I.

First time in each outlet store I actually looked around, but now I find a new shirt or whatever and out the door.

You've got to go to the store to do that. I just ponied up the $7.50 for shipping rather than risk it selling out too quickly and leaving me SOL.

- going to the store and spending another $40 on the closeout stuff damn it.

Thanks, just checked, out of stock at all the nearby stores. I assume that means I'm not going to find one by walking through the aisles at a store.

Do you guys really like that wiha screwdriver set? I received mine today and I am not impressed as other people here. They may be a little bit tougher than regular screwdrivers, but not at that high level.

It's a bit difficult to tell just how tough a tool is the first day you have it, before it's been used. ;)

They use a higher grade tool steel, and the steel striking cap is a hallmark of most heavy duty screwdrivers. You'll have a better idea of just how tough they are once they've seen some abuse side by side with "normal" screwdrivers.

I love the hell out of mine.

I have other 'premium' screwdrivers and the Wiha makes them look like a childs toy.

What don't you like about them ? Which set did you get ?

I bought the wiha heavy duty set with 6 pieces in a case.
I am not saying I don't like it. Just feel they are just a little bit better than craftsman set. The the price is triple.

There is no magnetism on the bit. I am not sure if you concern about it.

I've never had a set of screwdrivers come magnetized. Usually you do that yourself. I've been using Wiha for about 10 years. They are broached real well. I always smile when I use one because it fits so well. I always cuss when I use a craftsman.

The only thing I noticed when I bought these is that they are tail heavy.

Since you got it today, could you please give a short review or summary? I saw some people complain about the holder, is it true? Is it made in Germany?
I am trying to persuade myself :):)
How do you purchase at a kiosk?

I bought those and had to pay $7.50 shipping (I got them today)

I hear what you're saying. At a glance these seem better, but not *that* much better than Craftsman.

However, keep in mind the blades are a good deal tougher than C-man, you have a hex bolster and a striking cap. These can take some torque.

Maybe it's the weight you have a problem with? The soft finish ones (which you have) are considerably lighter than the micro finish. Perhaps you were expecting something heavier. Both types are plenty strong however.

You mean when the CM fails right?! I opted for the discontinued black microfinish HD's myself, I'm pretty sure I could split wall block all day long using a 3lb sludge and not hurt them.

heh heh heh :D

I've used the large slotted on a brake rotor from hell. One bolt was frozen solid, rust about 1/16" thick all over everything. I Kroil'd it, but PB Blaster on it, hit it with a flat bit on an impact gun, broke the bit, then took a 2lb ball peen and beat hell out of it with the Wiha. After about a half dozen good whacks it broke loose, really broke loose as in the bolt was so rusted it was cracked when I finally got it out.

I figured I trashed the Wiha, but no, not so much as a scratch on it, just a couple of shiny spots where I hit it.

I like Cman, especially the SK version 'Professional' screwdrivers Cman rebadges and puts at Sears with a $14 price tag, but, no way I'd try that with anything short of the Wiha or a manual impact, which was out on loan to my nephew.

I just have to give a big thanks for you guys that find these deals and post them up for everyone to use even if my wife hates it. I just can't get it through her head of the money that I have saved when she see's all these new tools laying on the work bench. Now if I can just get my hands on that 20 piece Gearwrench set that Sears had and I missed out on.

Again a big thanks,
Gary

I just got one and the shipping was $5.99 not $7.50. Looks like a very nice set. Thanks for the heads up on this one guys!
