Trying to decide on a new tool box with the current deals that are out there. Any one know of a better deal than the 56" tool box from Menards for 529 or the harbor freight for 350? I am afraid that the 41" from harbor freight isn't quite big enough and would probably buy two, however the 56" will probably be about right with a little room for expansion. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Have you personally seen the toolboxes from Menards?

They don't have the 56" in the store but the other ones in that line are VERY NICE!!!! I really want one.

$529 for the 56" is a smokin deal. If I had the money to spend on it right now I would have one tomorrow.

The only thing I think it could use is a 2nd full width shallow drawer instead of the only one deep one.

I just bought the 5drawer service cart from HF and it is awesome, but as far as a big box I'm going to get the Masterforce one from Menards when the time comes.

My motto is that "its better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it"

Get the bigger box, if you are questioning whether or not HF's 41" box is gonna be big enough. Well then it isn't.

You can always heave empty drawers to fill later. You can't fill drawers that are already full or drawers that you don't got.

I was gonna throw another wrench in the gears and say compare the 56" at Harbor freight but its $799 right now.

$529 or $799 ? Take the extra $270 and buy some more tools to fill up the 56" your gonna buy from Menards then send me a Christmas Thank You card later.

Looks like sears has canned the specials (as of right now), I had 2 sets of the USA polished wrench sets in my cart-but they both went up a heap--needless to say I cleared my cart--will wait

I got this too, but it will allow you to add to cart, with local pickup and the AAA 5% link it was ~$35.

i LOVE my masterforce boxes. I have had the 36" upper and lower for a couple years and the 41" upper/lower for about a year.

In this picture I didn't have the top 41" yet.
From my experience I think they are nicer than the HF boxes.

I am planning on getting the HF boxes soon, just some info for those planning to buy either one...

MasterForce 56" Rolling Tool Cabinet - Gross weight: 313.1 pounds
Harbor Freight 56" Roller Cabinet - Shipping Weight: 536.00 lbs.

I wouldnt put any faith in the weight that harbor freight puts on their website for that toolbox, after all they list the smaller 13 drawer 44" us general cabinet as 641.00 lbs

FWIW, I'm pretty certain the HF 13 drawer weighs 320 lbs or so. Unloaded one not too long ago.

I think closer to 375-400, I lifted the bottom out of my truck myself, which said 275 lbs, and it was at least 250.

IMO the red HF boxes are slightly better built than the MasterForce boxes, though both seem really nice for the money.

The 49pc set is $24.99

That's my question too and so far no gurus here answered.
The 75pc look better than 49pc, at least the FLEX ratchet is useful.

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/search_1...ectType=CAT_REC_PRED&prop17=gearwrench vortex

you will see 75pc with 34.99, and 49pc with 24.99
don't know which one is on the edge.

According to the Sears Outlet, each set contains the exact same # of vortex (pass-through) sockets (17 each), the 75pc pulls ahead in count by having a large # of screwdriver bits and regular sockets and junk. If you just want to add pass-thru, I think the 49 piece is a better deal... if you want the little screwdriver and stuff go with the 75 pc.

I think that's a cut and paste error on Sears Outlet, the 49pcs set for one doesn't have the flex ratchet.

I remember I looked at the 49PC set last year at sears, and all the sockets are pass-through, not only 17 of them.

I don't know the 75PC set, but from the description, they only have 17 pass-through sockets?

Anybody used these before? Thanks.

Gentlement, I think you might have missed it but someone did mentioned (and I quote)..."it is better to have and not need it than to need it and not have it".

Now go emptied that wallet...

This man speaks the truth! I bought the vortex set during last years crazy Sears sales. Never used it, has just been sitting in the bottom drawer... until it saved my bacon a couple weekends ago. Used it to remove some rear strut mounts, not enough clearance for a deep socket - and the vortex set did the trick!!

That's part of the issue though, someone previously posted that the 49-piece actually had more of the Vortex stuff than the 75-piece... I'd rather have more Vortex than a bunch of screwdriver bits and regular sockets. :)

Here's the previous thread on it.

It seems the the 49 piece has more Vortex sockets and less filler, but the 75-piece has fewer Vortex sockets, but has the flex ratchet instead of the fixed.

Ponder. My local store has both in stock...

I think im gonna pass. Too much filler with the flex head on the 75pc. The 49pc is more legit but doesn't have the flex head ratchet. Neither set is perfect. Unless you just bought both.

Im in the market for either the JH Williams or the Pratt-Read screwdriver set with some extras and some good ratchet sets (flex) a 1/4" cordless hex driver and a cordless 1/2" impact driver.

carrying on, nothing to see here, continuing shopping.

the open end of the Kobalt xbeams are really thin. If you need to get in somewhere real tight they would be nice.

Don't get the Kobalt cross form. I'm about to return my 2 sets. For the $, I think the USA made Craftsman regular raised panels are better wrenches. Cross form is a novelty, and I'm not sure how much better/worse they are to normal combination wrenches.
