In the garage? How about partially in?

Addressed trailer vibration & started to make a floor lamp for my wife. Supplies for lamp = $20 or less........pocket hole jig, well a bit more :)

Got some of the wall between what will be the machine shop/ office from the high bay shop framed up. My project for this week is to get it framed and the windows/doors installed.Maybe even insulated!

Its slow going because like all my other walls, its a 3 separate cavity , 7" wall with almost no thermal conection.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I finally found a little time to start some work on the "new" garage, my BIL was over for christmas with his family and he helped me move some cupboards around and unload the steel shelving from the back of my truck and we set it up in its temporary home at one end of the garage, eventually its going down the other end but theres lots of work to do before that happens. Had a long discussion about raising the eaves height and the choice is currently between raising the whole roof by a couple of feet or leaving the ridge height the same and just changing the pitch on the roof and raising the side walls. Either way the roof will be coming off and will be felted, re-slated, have a couple of skylights fitted and be insulated probably this summer and the two pairs of barn doors replaced by one larger possibly bi folding doors.

Today I hope to start unpacking boxes in there and putting stuff away.

Spent 2 hrs. trying to get my tires off my truck. The ***** of it is that, last time I took them off I had the same problem. Only one was stuck good. I did use a Anti seize the first time but I guess not enough. Aluminum factory rims.

I know what you mean. Same issue on my Sky:

Major rust/corrosion stuck them good:

Addred some antiseize after snading off most of the rust:

A couple months later when I removed the wheel to do the caliper paint they came off much better:

Spanner checked an MGB from top to bottom, gathered most of the parts to complete the car, made a cover to prevent any dust/grinding debris from sitting on the paint

Then started into restoring my folder

Pics will be in my garage thread soon

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I formed up a new cover piece for the cowl on my project MGB and got it fit up and tacked in place. When I widened the car I added a piece and then I tried filling in the windshield wiper holes and the defrost vent slits. All that welding on a low crown panel made for a lot of distortion so I just cut the whole piece out and made a new top on my English wheel. I was tacking it without a helmet because it takes a second or two for the shade to go clear and I can go much faster and more accurately if I just close my eyes. This is not a good practice but it is one I have done for years when fitting panels in place. The bad part this time is that I sunburned my eyelids because of the number of tacks and how close I was so I have wait a day before I can get back to finishing the welding.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Today I sat at my workbench in front of a small electric heater and had a few Shiner Bocks before supper. One of the neighbors stopped by and scheduled a bit mechanic work (lawn mower) for Friday morning. Met the newest neighborhood dog and watched a couple of sika deer graze under the pecan trees. Not sure what comes after death but retirement is heaven.:)

oh snap!!!

No sleep now due to burnt eyelids :(

Didn't help that I was attempting to weld cast iron, think brazing is the next step.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Just continued to clean up and layout to my plan.

Added this cabinet to a frame with casters, attached a steel wall cabinet to the backside as I have no more wallspace and while pondering with my beer, decided to add a old drawer box to what was left of the frame sticking out.

Looks a little wierd, but I'm using up the misc. boxes I bought a while back.

Took it apart, sand blasted and primed the drawer box, will paint this WE.

Will also paint the black cabinet.

Another step closer to the next change.

Well I will try this again. I built another bench for my brother. He had one already but his kids have taken it over.

Finished closet-ironing baord for Mrs. E's change room. It'll get mounted on the wall and when open the board comes out with a leg that folds down to the floor.

Got the 56 Chev truck to the point where it starts with a momentary tap on the floor starter, then polished it up for delivery!

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I installed the hardtop hoist for my SL.
P1020842.jpg

This frees up space as the hardtop is held near the ceiling above the car and it can be easily fitted or removed by one person.
P1020843.jpg

It's operated by a 12v electric winch that has been wired up to an old battery charger for 240v mains power. It also has a remote with a raise/lower switch so it can be controlled with one hand while the other hand guides the cradle down to the hardtop then lifts it up for storage.

Cheers

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Yesterday, it was -20* celcius (-2* F), so my (uninsulated) garage time was limited to the bare minimum. Dragged a bunch of hand tools into the house though and finished off the floor lamp I am making for my wife.

I will show her the pictures of her dining room table covered in tools and wood bits after she says she likes it.

The insulation threads are becoming more interesting...I ignored them all summer :)

Worked on my new project...a 1946 ford half-ton pickup. I bought it for its' originality...cause..."they're only original once." So tempted though to tear it apart and fix/replace everything as new, but I've resisted so far. :)View attachment 159129

View attachment 159130 PS: Received my third PSA results yesterday (have to have one every 3 months for 2 years after the DaVinci prostatectomy).....0.0% undetectible. Whoopee!

Yesterday I finished up the "wrap". As soon as I finish this cup of coffee, I'm going to start hanging the new vinyl siding. (late start today, I may have over done it yesterday, cold and wet, and I'm old)

Pics show an addition, we rebuilt on the rear of the shop. 6'x7' roll up doors, on each end.

Set up my christmas present from my parents.

Also, I found a bunch of old 2x6 lumber in the woods next to my apartment, so I stole it, and I'm drying it in the garage. Going to be used to build another work bench and an outfeed table for my table saw. Gotta love free wood.

Swapped in a new pumper on my old Quincy. Now have a CHquicystien compressor.
Here is my old X2 sitting next to my new to me C-6. Still looking for original specs on this guy. I will measure the CFM out of the 3/8" port sometime tonight.

Anyone have an idea of what the belt deflection should be?

Nice, great gift!

And, of course, everyone loves free wood!

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

AWDBlazer,

I am going to use a cheapo manual flow gauge. There are better ways with in line digital sensing guages but I do not have that type. I believe the flow gauge I have is made by Kings (not sure right now).

Calculations indicate 6.16CFM
Actual data from guage ~5SCFM with tank pressure dropped to 15psi and pump running
